Convicted of sexual crimes against 53 girls - got a place in Stockholm's city youth project

DOMESTIC. Ji Gustafsson - formerly Simon Sanu Öst - served a short prison sentence for sexual offenses against 53 girls. When he got out again, he was put in a program with children and young people under the auspices of the City of Stockholm. Employees who raised the alarm were silenced, according to TV4.

TV4's "Kalla fakta" has examined the case of Simon Sanu Öst from Stockholm, who was sentenced to prison in 2015 for sexual offenses against 57 girls aged 11–17.

Simon Sanu Öst - who today has changed his name to Ji Gustafsson - was paroled back in 2017.

In 2019, he - as a 29-year-old - got a place in the project "Dev". It was a labor market initiative for young people between the ages of 16 and 29 that was run by the City of Stockholm.

When Ji Gustafsson sent unwanted sexual messages to another participant, the staff checked him out and found the verdict.

When they told the managers about the verdict, the employees were ordered to "absolutely not" tell the other participants who "Ji" really was. That's what Cecilia Broberg, who worked as a "coach" at Dev, told Kalla fakta.

- Our immediate boss meant that Ji has served his sentence. He is like anyone else. We should not suspect anything about him, she continues.

Ji Gustafsson had then started a relationship with a young woman who also participated in the project - but even she was not told anything about his background.

- He said he could do whatever he wanted with me because he owned my body and that I was his whore, says the woman in Kalla fakta.

The city of Stockholm replies to Kalla fakta in an email that "information about participants' background is confidential" and that this was why the other participants were not informed of the verdict.

The woman who started a relationship with him eventually reported Ji Gustafsson for rape, but the investigation was dropped.

Today Ji Gustafsson is in prison again. He was sentenced last year to five years and six months in prison for, among other things, rape of children. Because of the low sentences and the two-thirds release system, he will soon be free again.
