AI features for Apple Music and QuickTime revealed in new iOS 18 leak

With the WWDC 2024 keynote just around the corner, a new iOS 18 and macOS 15 leak reveals several changes coming for Apple's built-in Music and QuickTime apps. People familiar with the matter told AppleInsider that Cupertino is working on new features for both of these apps with an on-device AI focus. For example, Apple has been working on a new smart song transition feature. Currently, Music app users can choose the standard crossfade effect, but with this function, users might be able to adjust the duration of the crossfade effect even further. This will be available for both Mac Music and iPhone's Apple Music apps. In addition, Apple is working on a new audio passthrough function that will be available on "supported hardware." The publication couldn't provide exactly what's coming with this feature besides its related to Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos. AppleInsider hints at a possible rebrand of the feature. However, it also says Passthrough won't require an Apple Music subscription, as it's going to be available on macOS 15's QuickTime app update. Lastly, Cupertino is also planning new gaming and spatial computing features, focusing on audio accessories like headphones and headsets. The publication says Apple is working on Spatial Gaming, which could probably bring a more immersive audio experience when playing games. It's unclear if this could be related to Spatial Audio or if it's going to be a fancy term for gaming on Apple Vision Pro. Apple will definitely debut these features during the WWDC 2024 keynote, which will take place on June 10. Previous reports say Apple Music is also receiving a new smart playlist feature powered by Apple's on-device AI. Keep checking BGR for Apple's latest announcements and rumors.
