Since the 2021 release of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, director Destin Daniel Cretton has stayed close with the Marvel Studios empire. Along with developing the Shang-Chi sequel, he co-created the upcoming series Wonder Man, and was attached to direct Avengers: The Kang Dynasty before leaving the project last fall. That departure seems to have opened the door to new superhero possibilities—because now he’s in talks to direct the next Spider-Man film.
The Hollywood Reporter says, “Sources say that Spider-Man 4 is running, not crawling, full steam ahead and will shoot early next year.” It will be the fourth spider-film to star Tom Holland as your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, following the memory-altering events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. The writers of that film, Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, are back for the next, though no one is saying much about what the story might cover.
In 2023, Tom Holland spoke about a potential fourth film to The Hollywood Reporter, saying he’d been in development meetings about the film: “The first few meetings were about, ‘Why would we do this again?’ And I think we found the reason why.”
There is not yet an official release date set for Spider-Man 4.[end-mark]
