Telegram begins releasing user data to authorities

In a post on Telegram, Pavel Durov explains that the new policy is being introduced to deter criminals from using the app's search function for illegal activities, such as selling banned goods.

In addition to the new privacy rules, Telegram has started using AI-based technology to identify and remove illegal content in the app's search function. In addition, the platform has recently updated its private chat moderation guidelines to further strengthen security.

Telegram plans to report the release of user data to authorities in its quarterly so-called transparency report.
