Chris Stapleton Visits With Teen Who Was Hospitalized After Car Wreck That Killed Three Family Members
That's the kind of stuff that deserves all the awards.
Chris Stapleton continues to break records at the awards shows, recently winning his record eighth CMA Award for Male Vocalist of the Year and tying Brooks & Dunn for the most CMA Awards in history with 19 each.
But it's what he does behind the scenes that's even more important.
Over the summer, a Colorado dad and his two teenage daughters traveled to Missouri to see their grandmother - and also see Chris Stapleton in Kansas City.
But unfortunately, they never made it to the show.
A 16-year old driver fell asleep behind the wheel of his Chevy Silverado and crashed into the family. Their car was t-boned while sitting at a stop sign, killing the father, Derek Moffett, the grandmother, Patricia Moffett, and one of the sisters, 16-year old Catherine Moffett. The only survivor from the vehicle was 19-year old Alexandria Moffett, who was airlifted to Research Medical Center in Kansas City with serious injuries.
The teenager suffered a punctured lung and multiple fractures to her, pelvis, ribs, arm, wrist and orbital bones, and has had to undergo facial reconstruction surgery, elbow replacement and wrist surgery.
But while she was in the hospital, doctors were able to arrange a surprise to lift her spirits: A visit from Chris Stapleton.
According to Alex, she was expecting a phone call and ended up getting much more:
“We were supposed to just have a Facetime with him and they called and were like we are in really bad service, we’ll call you back in a few minutes. Like a minute later, we got a knock on my door and they just came in.”
The visit occurred on Father's Day of this year, just days after Alex had lost her own father. And while he was visiting Alex in the hospital, he decided to sing "Traveller" - a song he wrote after a cross-country road trip that he took with his wife Morgane when his own dad passed away back in 2013.
As for Alex, the teenager is back home in Colorado, where she's still in physical therapy but planning on returning to school at Montana State next semester. She's working part time, and a GoFundMe was established to help with her medical expenses.
And she's also planning a trip to Las Vegas in early December to finally get to see Chris Stapleton in concert...although at this point, she's already gotten her own private show.
