Zach Top’s Cover Of The 90’s Classic “Sold (The Grundy County Auction Incident)” Is Pure Country Gold

Now that's a cover. Of course, one of the hottest up-and-coming acts in country music this year has to be Zach Top — the Sunnyside, Washington native has made a name for himself with his neotraditional, 90's-inspired sound that has seen a huge resurgence as of late, largely thanks to him. He has an amazing, very distinctive voice, and that more classic style just fits him perfectly. He's leaning into all of it, from an aesthetic standpoint and obviously musically, and it's working. I think he's going to have a massive 2025, and is certainly the "next big thing," for lack of a better (less cheesy) phrase. We've heard him do plenty of awesome covers this year too, from Willie Nelson's "Last Thing I Needed, First Thing This Morning" to George Strait's hit "Nobody In His Right Mind Would've Left Her," and he nails all of them... with a voice like his, I don't see how anything else is possible. And one he's been doing out on the road at tour tops all over the country this year is of John Michael Montgomery’s 90's classic, "Sold (The Grundy County Auction Incident)." Of course, the song was written by Richard Fagan and Robb Royer and released as the lead single to John Michael Montgomery’s 1995 self-titled album. It was named Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks’ #1 single for 1995, and obviously became an all-time classic 90’s country song that fans still know and love to this day. Like I said, pretty much anything he touches is country gold, but hearing Zach rip a 90's heater like this just hits different... it's always a crowd favorite, and he obviously did it more than justice.
