Key Recipe Ingredients
Salted Butter Pretzels: Use butter-flavored pretzels for the perfect combination of salty and crunchy.
Rolo Candies – The Rolo candies, when melted, add a chocolate caramel layer that complements the crunch of the pretzels.
Toasted Pecans – Chopped and toasted pecans add a wonderful nutty flavor and crunch. See below for nut-free ideas.
White Chocolate Morsels – The white chocolate morsels are the finishing touch, adding a sweet and creamy layer that balances the saltiness of the pretzels.
Substitutions And Variations
Here are a few of our favorite variations and substitutions:

Vary the Pretzels: You can also use square shaped pretzels, regular shaped pretzels, or Christmas shaped ones that are available seasonally.
Switch up the Chocolate: Instead of white chocolate, you can use milk or dark chocolate for drizzling over the top.

Ingredients40 salted butter pretzels round40 Rolo candies regular sized3 oz chopped unsalted pecans toasted5 oz white chocolate morsels good quality
InstructionsPreheat oven to 300F, with rack on lower middle position. Line baking sheets with parchment paper. Arrange pretzels evenly on baking sheets in a single layer. Place a Rolo candy on center of each pretzel – if not centered well, it can melt off the pretzel. Bake 3 minutes on center rack. Remove baking sheet from oven and immediately press on the toasted pecans. Cool completely. Place white chocolate in a small bowl and microwave in 20 second increments, mixing in between, until smooth and melted. Scrape melted white chocolate into a ziploc bag, cut a very tiny hole at bottom corner, and drizzle immediately onto pretzel turtles.
Notes
Keep an eye on the pretzels while they are in the oven. As soon as the Rolos start to melt, take them out. This will keep the caramel from flowing over the pretzel.
To toast pecans, I use my toaster oven and toast the nuts for 2-3 minutes. If using your oven, you can lay chopped pecans in a single layer on a baking sheet at 325F. Brush with a little melted butter, if desired. Toast for about 5 minutes, depending on the oven. Just until aromatic and browned, but watch that they don’t burn.
You can also use pre-roasted pecans, but the flavor is much more aromatic after you toast it them for a bit at home.
If chocolate hardens, microwave for a few seconds and resume.
