“I Don’t Care, I Don’t Get The Point” – Colter Wall Thinks Awards Shows Are The “Biggest Waste Of Anybody’s Time”
Colter Wall is telling us straight.
Over the years, we have all seen a decline in awards shows. New ones are popping up that are not providing much value to the industry, and year after year; it feels as though award shows are not listening to viewers on what country music the viewers are listening to and supporting.
A perfect example of this is the Red Clay Strays getting snubbed at the CMA Awards. Old Dominion took home their 7th consecutive CMA for Vocal Group of the Year. While there are loyal Old Dominion fans out there, this felt like a total snub given that the group did not release any new music throughout the year, and the men of the Red Clay Strays had not only dropped a phenomenal record but also are one of the hottest country groups at the moment.
While we still tune in, knowing that we will be disappointed during the awards ceremony, we still hold out hope that the underdogs will win one day.
This moment, too, shows the politics involved in each awards show today.
However, some artists have always seen awards shows for what they are, and you'll never see them walking the carpet at them. One of those artists is Colter Wall.
Colter Wall recently sat down for an interview with Dale Brisby. Given that Wall hardly sits down for interviews, you'll want to listen to this one. During their conversation, the Canada native told Brisby that he does not see the point in awards shows, which is why you've never seen him at them.
And Colter's fans know that he often plans his touring schedule around his work schedule on the farm. He prioritizes pushing cattle and ranching before touring. He's a real deal cowboy. For a long while, I believed this was why we never saw Wall at any awards show; it didn't work with his work schedule. But the truth is he does not want to go.
"Awards shows to me seem like probably the biggest waste of anybody's time. I've never understood it, I don't get why... I don't understand why anyone would care.
But every year, there's something you know, and you would want to be a member of this thing. I don't really care. Or even just like, would you want to go and walk the carpet or whatever deal, and it's just kind of like, no. I really, really don't.
So that's something that's irregular, and it keeps coming up."
Wall then says he may be hurting himself by not attending these award events. Even with a generous invitation, he is not interested in them.
"But I just don't care. I don't care. I don't get the point of everybody going up there, patting each other's backs about, 'Oh, you made a record.' You know, it doesn't do anything for me.
I just think I could probably be doing something better with my time than worrying about walking down the carpet and watching everybody talk about how great they are. You know, I don't have time for that."
RESPECT.

Colter Wall has always been about his music and creating melodies that keep the tradition of country music alive. While some artists play the game, leaning into what will get them on the radio or showing up at all these awards shows, Colter Wall's statement proves that you don't have to follow the status quo and can still achieve success.
This is why we love Colter Wall. Honest. No bullsh*t. A true cowboy that makes damn good country music.
