Quantum Soul: Researchers Seek to Unlock the Mystery of Life Beyond Death

Recently, scientists Edward W. Kamen from the Georgia Institute of Technology and Roger D. Kamen from Ferris State University have proposed a new theory that the human soul might actually be a type of quantum field. Quantum field theory (QFT) is a well-established framework in physics that explains how particles like electrons and photons (particles of light) interact with fields such as electric or electromagnetic fields. According to QFT, these fields contain quanta—discrete packets of energy that make up the fabric of reality. However, Kamens propose that our understanding of the universe through QFT might be limited if there is a realm beyond the physical universe where the laws of physics as we know them do not apply. One critical point in their paper is that current physics, particularly quantum mechanics, may not fully explain what happens beyond the material world. Physicist Sean Carroll raised this issue in 2011 when he questioned how a soul could interact with matter and still comply with the known laws of physics. The Kamens argue that while our laws of physics are consistent with how the universe operates, they may not be complete in addressing non-physical domains, like the realm where the soul might reside. The Soul as a Quantum Field The Kamens hypothesize that if human souls exist, they do not interact directly with matter, as commonly assumed, but rather with certain fields such as electromagnetic (EM) waves. This is where their concept of the “soul field” comes into play. They suggest that this soul field is a form of quantum field that could store and transfer information, particularly working memory, during life and after death. One of the strongest pieces of evidence supporting this idea is the phenomenon of near-death experiences (NDEs). People who have experienced NDEs often report being able to see events happening around them, even though their physical bodies, including their eyes, are not functioning. The Kamens argue that this could be because the soul is interacting with light (EM waves) in a way similar to how the brain processes photons to enable human vision. For instance, photons in light could interact with the quanta of the soul field, allowing the soul to perceive and process light, much like how our eyes work. Near-Death Experiences and the Soul Field A remarkable example of this is the account of a physician who had an NDE while undergoing surgery, as reported by Woollacott and Peyton in 2021. During the operation, the physician’s heart stopped, and her eyes were taped shut, but she later described seeing a senior doctor in scrubs entering the room, which was confirmed by those present. This event suggests that the soul can process visual information independently of the body, possibly through an interaction between light and the soul’s quantum field. Kamen and Kamen also address how the soul could potentially hear sounds during such experiences. Although the body might be unconscious or in cardiac arrest, auditory cells may still function for a short period. These cells create electric signals that are transformed into electromagnetic waves. The soul field could “read” these EM waves, allowing the soul to perceive sounds even after physical death. Memory Transfer and Brain Function The relationship between the brain and the soul field becomes particularly interesting when considering memory. The authors propose that electric fields produced by neural ensembles in the brain could transfer memory content to the soul. This could explain how memories persist after death, as they are “transferred” from the brain’s electric fields to the soul’s quantum field. A groundbreaking study by Pinotsis and Miller (2022) found that neural electric fields contain detailed information about working memory, providing a possible mechanism for memory transfer. If the soul field can interact with these fields, it might carry memories along even after the body ceases to function. The Two-Way Interaction: Soul Field and Brain The interaction between the soul field and the body’s electric or electromagnetic fields may not be one-sided. Kamen and Kamen suggest that the soul field could affect brain activity by influencing electric fields in the brain. This aligns with the theory of cytoelectric coupling proposed by Pinotsis and colleagues (2023), which posits that electric fields can impact neurons at a molecular level. In a potential reincarnation scenario, the soul field might re-enter a fetus or child and re-establish neural connections, possibly transferring memories and consciousness. The Kamens hypothesize that this interaction could occur at specific moments, such as conception or gestation, but that testing or measuring this interaction experimentally would be extremely challenging. They acknowledge the difficulty in empirically proving the existence of the soul field. Even with advanced technology, measuring the interaction between the soul and electromagnetic fields during critical moments like near-death experiences may remain impossible. Nonetheless, the Kamens’ work presents a compelling case for further investigation into the interactions between fields in the physical realm and what might exist beyond it. City 20 is like an entire survival game set in Fallout 3’s Megaton

You emerge from Vault 101, blinking the sunlight out of your gloom-damaged, unpracticed eyes, and the world of Fallout 3 stretches around you in every direction. The opening hours of Bethesda’s RPG are the most tense and volatile. You have no weapons, no ammunition, no health supplies, and no money. Everything can kill you. Everybody you meet is a complete stranger. There is boundless possibility, but also immense pressure - your focus is to survive. City 20, the new sandbox and survival game by Untold, feels like the introductory section of Fallout 3 or New Vegas, but writ large. I remember scrounging around Megaton, collecting (or stealing) as much junk as possible to trade for a few caps and maybe a handful of bullets. Eventually in Fallout you ascend to ruler of the Wasteland, but in City 20, life is permanently hard. Ara History Untold review - Microsoft’s grand strategy game is a hit

The one-more-turn compulsion is alive and well. Ara: History Untold is the latest in a smattering of games offering alternatives to Sid Meier's classic formula, like Humankind or Old World. In concept, Ara does not reinvent the wheel. I haven't checked in with Civilization since its fifth entry, but I immediately felt at home with the game's basics. However, the multitude of small and significant differences create something in serious conversation with other grand strategy games. Ara: History Untold is not an outright improvement, neither is it a mere homage. It is worth engaging with on its own terms. What’s this new mystery Nintendo device?

What’s this new mystery Nintendo device?

Image: The Verge Nintendo has submitted a mysterious new wireless device to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) this weekend, and it isn’t the Switch 2 console we’re expecting to be revealed before next April. The CLO-001 model number doesn’t reveal what it actually is, but it appears to be an entirely new product line given the “001” codes used on devices like the original Switch (HAC-001) and DS (NTR-001) consoles. It’s tagged only as a “wireless device,” not a “wireless game console” or any kind of controller like a Joy-Con. A basic diagram within the documents shows an outline of where the FCC label will be “displayed in a depression area on the bottom” of something with a squarish footprint and rounded-off corners. The documents also show... Continue reading…
