Joni Ernst Is Campaigning Against Hegseth So She Can Get the Job

The Federalist reports that Joni Ernst has repeatedly called Trump threatening him to dump Hegseth. At the same time surrogates have told Trump to nominate Ernst instead. Ernst has proven to be very establishment and a McConnell devotee. Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, has been leading an “aggressive” personal jihad against Pete Hegseth, Donald Trump’s nominee […] The post Joni Ernst Is Campaigning Against Hegseth So She Can Get the Job appeared first on www.independentsentinel.com.

Cryptic Messages Found On Shell Casings At Scene Where Health Insurance CEO Was Gunned Down

Detectives investigating the scene where UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was fatally shot on Wednesday found shell casings with the words “deny,” “defend,” and “depose” written on them, according to ABC News. As he was approaching the Hilton hotel in Midtown Manhattan early Wednesday morning, Thompson, 50, was shot from behind by a man wearing a black hoodie and mask. Authorities said the shooting appeared to be a “brazen targeted attack,” and the suspect is still on the loose after fleeing the scene on foot before getting on a bike and riding into Central Park. NYPD detectives said they are trying to determine if the words written on the shell casings point to a possible motive for the shooting, ABC News reported. Photos posted by the NYPD on Wednesday afternoon showed the suspect ordering at a Starbucks two blocks away from the Hilton hotel just before the shooting took place. In those photos, the suspect is wearing a black hood and mask, making only his nose and eyes visible. These are additional images of the suspect sought in connection to this morning’s homicide. If you have any information about this incident, the suspect, or his location please contact @NYPDTips at 1(800)577-TIPS. https://t.co/rtfVynljXa pic.twitter.com/kUJr7l0nxZ — NYPD NEWS (@NYPDnews) December 4, 2024 Thompson’s wife told NBC News that her husband had received multiple death threats, but she wasn’t sure of the specific details surrounding them. The New York Times reported that a law enforcement official confirmed that Thompson had received multiple threats before he was killed. Thompson’s wife guessed that the threats could have been related to “lack of coverage.” UnitedHealthcare — a subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group, one of the largest companies in the world — has been criticized for denying patients’ claims. Last year, UnitedHealth was sued by the families of two deceased former beneficiaries who allege that the company used artificial intelligence to deny extended care coverage that doctors had prescribed, CBS News reported. The lawsuit alleges that UnitedHealth knowingly used an AI model that had a 90% error rate. Thompson and other UnitedHealth Group executives were also being investigated by the Department of Justice when he was gunned down. On February 16 of this year, Thompson sold shares worth $15.1 million just two weeks before the public found out about a federal antitrust probe, according to Crain’s New York Business. The DOJ was reportedly investigating whether UnitedHealth Group violated antitrust laws by making acquisitions that consolidated its market position. Thompson’s sale of his shares earlier this year was his first since taking over the company in 2021, according to the New York Post. Thompson, UnitedHealth Group Chairman Stephen Helmsley, Chief People Officer Erin McSweeney, and Chief Accounting Officer Tom Roos sold a combined $101.5 million in shares. According to authorities, the shooter arrived outside of the Hilton hotel between five and ten minutes before Thompson and appeared to be waiting for the UnitedHealthcare CEO before opening fire. CHECK OUT THE DAILY WIRE HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE Video footage of the shooting showed the suspect, wearing all black with a gray backpack, approaching the health insurance CEO from behind and shooting him in the back. The shooter fired more shots at Thompson after he had fallen to the ground. NYPD Chief of Detectives Joe Kenny said during a press conference on Wednesday that the suspect’s gun appeared to malfunction, but the shooter fixed the jam and continued firing, showing he is likely familiar with using firearms. Police are offering a $10,000 reward for information on the suspect.

Jurors In Daniel Penny Case Review Crucial Video Evidence In Ongoing Deliberations

No matter what side people were on regarding Daniel Penny’s guilt in the death of Jordan Neely, many believed a verdict would come quickly. That hasn’t happened, and jurors are entering their second full day of deliberations on Thursday. Since deliberations began, the jurors have asked to review key pieces of evidence, including three videos tied to the case, Fox 5 New York reported. Penny is charged with second-degree manslaughter and a lesser charge of criminally negligent homicide. Jurors can find him guilty of one of the charges, or acquit him of all charges. On Wednesday, jurors asked to review body cam footage from police taken as they arrived at the scene after Penny placed Neely in a chokehold. Penny said he took action because Neely was threatening passengers on the New York City subway. They also asked to review the original video of the incident taken by another passenger, and the footage from Penny’s interrogation with police, where they didn’t tell him Neely had died. Jurors also asked to review the cross-examination of New York medical examiner Dr. Cynthia Harris, who testified that she made the determination Neely died due to asphyxiation based on video alone – before the toxicology report came back. In November, Penny’s defense attorneys questioned Harris why Neely’s death certificate originally listed the cause of death as pending further study. Harris said this was due to a misunderstanding from a police report that said Neely had been screaming while police were present. But, after viewing video of Penny restraining Neely in a chokehold and appearing unresponsive, Harris made her determination about the cause of death. CHECK OUT THE DAILY WIRE HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE Harris told the defense that even if Neely had enough fentanyl in his system to take out an elephant, she still would have ruled that he died from asphyxiation. The defense, however, was able to get her to agree that medical examiners can disagree on the cause of death and that it’s not a perfect science. On Tuesday afternoon, less than an hour after deliberations began, jurors asked about the specifics of justification defenses from the judge’s instructions. To convict Penny, jurors need to agree that Penny’s chokehold on Neely was unjustifiable and that he acted recklessly. The jurors were read that section of the judge’s instructions, deliberated for another hour and a half, and then went home for the day, The Daily Wire reported. Also on Wednesday, Neely’s father filed a lawsuit against Penny for the death of his son, the New York Post reported, demanding “judgment awarding damages in a sum which exceeds the jurisdictional limits of all lower Courts which would otherwise have jurisdiction.”

New York State Police Save Heart Transplant Patient Stranded On The Way To Surgery

Many drivers and passengers were scared when a brutal snowstorm left them stranded on New York State Route 5 on November 29, but one woman’s situation was especially urgent. This 64-year-old patient was traveling to Cleveland Clinic in Ohio to receive heart transplant surgery. In the meantime, she was wearing a battery-operated pump to keep the organ going. When severe weather brought the trip to a halt, her husband reached out to a nurse at Cleveland Clinic, who in turn contacted state troopers. A statement from the New York State Police describes an epic rescue staged by officers. It took a chain of separate trips, including a plane ride, but police finally got this heart transplant patient to her destination! “Troopers implemented a plan to transport the 64-year-old to Portland Fire Department then to Westfield Memorial Hospital,” reads the report. “Troopers then transported her to the Jamestown Airport in Chautauqua County clear of the storm and she was flown by plane out of the area to Cleveland Clinic for the heart transplant.” Photos from the storm show cars stranded in severe winter weather. Facebook New York State Police provided a much shorter statement on Facebook. They included photos from the incident, which showed a lineup of cars and trucks stuck in the snow. “State Route 5 town of Portland,” they wrote. “Handing out food and water and also located a heart transplant patient to safety – SP Fredonia. Stay off the roads in the south towns for safety as crews are clearing the roads.” Facebook According to People, it looks like the heart transplant patient’s daughter actually reached out in the comments section to thank the troopers who rescued her mother! “Words will never express the extreme gratitude my family and I have for you…” the woman wrote. “That’s my mom you saved! God bless each and every one of the officers involved in helping her get to safety and get her to her hopefully new heart.” You can find the source of this story’s featured image here. BIDEN WHITE HOUSE MULLS MORE SWEEPING PARDONS... THIS TIME FOR FAUCI, SCHIFF, CHENEY... Liberal Media Lays Groundwork For Mass Pardons Of Deep State Minions — And Apparently Biden’s Team Is Listening Following President Joe Biden’s sweeping pardon of his son Hunter Biden’s alleged crimes, members of the liberal media suggested he pardon a wide swath of his political allies, including Liz Cheney and Anthony Fauci. “Is Hunter the only one getting saved here?” Tommy Vietor, a former spokesman for President Barack Obama and co-host of the popular left-wing “Pod Save America” podcast, asked Tuesday.
