ProPublica Endangers Women by Misrepresenting State’s Abortion Law

A ProPublica article published Wednesday claims a Georgia woman died after taking an abortion pill because the state abortion ban prevented her from getting necessary treatment. But a pro-life OB-GYN says 41-year-old Candi Miller’s story says more about the danger of abortion pills than about the abortion law. “This story illustrates very clearly the horrendous experience that women go through when they take these abortion drugs. But [also], the real dangers there are when women take them, especially when they take them without medical supervision,” Dr. Christina Francis, a board-certified OB-GYN, told The Daily Signal. “And this completely contradicts the abortion industry’s narrative that, one, that these drugs are as safe as Tylenol; and two, that self-managed abortions are perfectly safe.” ProPublica published Kavitha Surana’s profile of Miller, “Afraid to Seek Care Amid Georgia’s Abortion Ban, She Stayed at Home and Died,” on Wednesday. Abortion in Georgia is banned after around six weeks of pregnancy with an exception if the life of the mother is at risk. Every state abortion ban in the United States includes a life-of-the-mother exception. Miller had lupus, diabetes, and hypertension, so doctors said another baby could kill her. After accidentally getting pregnant at age 41, she ordered abortion pills online, but it failed to expel all of the unborn baby’s tissue, leading to an infection that ultimately killed her, ProPublica reported. Miller’s family said she didn’t go to the doctor “due to the current legislation on pregnancies and abortions.” But according to Francis, who serves as CEO of the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Georgia law would not have prevented Miller from getting the necessary dilation and curettage, or D&C, procedure to remove the tissue. If Miller had a severe form of any of those conditions, then she still would have qualified legally under Georgia’s law for ending her pregnancy under the state’s medical exception, Francis said. “It sounds like she just did not receive good counsel, and somebody just told her automatically that she wouldn’t qualify—which, again, is not the case,” Francis said. By spreading misinformation about abortion laws, ProPublica endangers women, Francis said. A woman in Georgia hemorrhaging from a spontaneous miscarriage could read Surana’s article and unnecessarily drive hours to another state out of fear she couldn’t get the necessary care in her state. Surana’s article is a real world example of how lies about abortion bans can hurt women, according to Francis. A ProPublica spokesperson told The Daily Signal it stands by its reporting. “The state’s committee of more than 30 experts concluded that the deaths of Amber Thurman and Candi Miller were preventable, a newsworthy finding,” the spokesperson said in an emailed statement. ProPublica published an article Tuesday about Amber Nicole Thurman, who died after a Georgia hospital failed to treat an infection caused by an abortion pill complication in time to save her life. Francis said Thurman’s death is an obvious case of medical malpractice that has nothing to do with the state’s abortion ban. “Our ongoing reporting is illuminating the challenges doctors face in caring for patients with pregnancy complications in states with restricted access to abortion,” the spokesperson continued. “The FDA and World Health Organization have advised, based on clinical data, that the two-pill regimen of mifepristone and misoprostol is safe and effective when taken in the first trimester and deaths are exceedingly rare.” The U.S. Food and Drug Administration relaxed restrictions on the abortion pill in December 2021, allowing women to order them online without seeing a doctor. Francis said this has endangered women. The OB-GYN said women and physicians both need accurate information about abortion. “Women deserve to have accurate information to know there is not a single state law in this country that will prosecute a woman if she has gone for an abortion,” Francis said, “and there’s not a single state law in the country that would prevent a physician from intervening immediately if a woman is facing a potentially life-threatening complication of her pregnancy.” “The laws do not require that the woman be critically ill or actively dying before a physician can intervene,” the OB-GYN said. Turkey’s Stray Dogs Find Their Forever Homes Overseas

Following the approval of the controversial law in Turkey that removes millions of dogs off the streets, Turkey’s stray dogs are finding their forever homes in other countries. In July of this year, the law, dubbed by animal rights activists as the “Massacre Law”, was approved despite the outpouring criticisms it received. The law aims to remove Turkey’s stray dogs off the streets and for them to either be impounded or put in animal shelters. However, animal rights activists believe that with the lack of resources and facilities, these dogs will only be put down. Now, animal rights activists and organizations are doing their best to ensure that the stray dogs in Turkey get to live a life with loving owners in other countries. In an interview with Reuters, animal rights activist Nilgul Sayar, who runs a dog shelter near Istanbul, reveals that she has successfully sent hundreds of dogs overseas for adoption. She also reveals that the demand for international dog adoptions have skyrocketed ever since the law was passed. Sayar tells Reuters, “We have around 20 to 25 dogs ready to fly. People continue to reach out to us (for adoption). I hope we will send more dogs soon. They will all have good homes.” Sayar then shares the story of Dali and Deezi, two stray dogs who used to live on the streets of Istanbul, were caught, and later put in Sayar’s shelter. Today, Dali and Deezi are living in the Netherlands, enjoying their second chance at a happy and comfortable life. Ali Okay, a volunteer who flew Dali and Deezi from Turkey to Belgium, tells Reuters, “We wanted to support these dogs and find loving families abroad.” Deezi’s new owner, Caroline Dieleman, said that she decided to adopt the pooch when she heard about Turkey’s new law. “The new law makes me feel sick physically but also powerless,” said Dieleman. “This was a little thing I could do…it is one dog only, from how many dogs. But one is better than none.” The process to get these dogs adopted can be long and tedious, but ultimately rewarding. It can take at least four months to get a dog ready to travel to the European Union with all the necessary paperwork and vaccinations – all of which can cost over $1,100. In the US, the CDC also has strict requirements on importing dogs, especially from high-risk countries such as Turkey. Fortunately, international adoption isn’t only the option that these stray dogs have. Reuters report that the animal lovers and activists alike in the country are doing their best to save these beloved pooch. Some companies have started adopting strays for their offices, some vets are offering free vaccinations for those willing to adopt animals from shelters, and a hotel has even built a dog shelter to introduce the dogs to tourists! The Turkish government estimates that there are around 4 million stray dogs roaming the streets and rural areas of the country.

FAKE NEWS: Viral Tall Tale That Pro-Life Laws Killed a Mother DEBUNKED

Presidential candidate Kamala Harris and the abortion hysterics in the mainstream media turned one mother’s tragic death into a PR field day. The activist “news” site ProPublica marked the passing of 28-year-old Amber Nicole Thurman as the first abortion-related death, ruled “preventable,” by a state committee’s ruling Monday. Thurman, a 28-year-old mother from Georgia, attempted to kill her unborn twins by swallowing abortion pills she legally obtained in North Carolina. Five days later, according to LifeNews, she contracted an infection from her babies’ remains that failed to leave her uterus.  She died in her local hospital before doctors could remove the infected parts left inside her. The tragedy quickly became a viral horror story of an innocent woman killed by Georgia’s “oppressive” pro-life laws in a post-Roe v. Wade America. “A Georgia Woman Has Died After an Abortion Ban Delayed Lifesaving Care, read the headline in Mother Jones. “It Was Only a Matter of Time Before Abortion Bans Killed Someone,” read the New York Times.  “An Abortion Ban Killed Amber Thurman — And Likely Many More,” read The Nation. Democrats immediately exploited the tale as a campaign advertisement.  A young mother from Georgia should be alive today, raising her son and pursuing her dream of attending nursing school. This is exactly what we feared when Roe v. Wade was struck down. In more than 20 states, Trump Abortion Bans prevent doctors from providing basic medical care. — Kamala Harris (@KamalaHarris) September 18, 2024 “This is exactly what we feared when Roe v. Wade was struck down. In more than 20 states, Trump Abortion Bans prevent doctors from providing basic medical care,” whined Harris. Women are bleeding out in parking lots, turned away from emergency rooms, losing their ability to ever have children again. Survivors of rape and incest are being told they cannot make decisions about what happens next to their bodies. And now women are dying. These are the… — Kamala Harris (@KamalaHarris) September 18, 2024 “Women are bleeding out in parking lots, turned away from emergency rooms, losing their ability to ever have children again,” she continued.  “And now women are dying. These are the consequences of Donald Trump’s actions.” Except none of this is true.  Georgia restricts abortion after an unborn baby develops a heartbeat, which begins at around six weeks into pregnancy. However, the law explicitly allows doctors to intervene in medical emergencies, as Leading OBGYN Dr. Christina Francis told LifeNews.  “Make no mistake: all state abortion bans currently in effect contain exceptions to ‘prevent the death’ or ‘preserve the life’ of the pregnant person,” Francis noted.  Doctors can remove the fetus from the mother if a heartbeat is no longer detected, which is applied in Thurman’s scenario. Both the hospital’s “medical negligence” and the dangerous side effects of abortion drugs are to blame for Thurman’s death, according to Francis, “not pro-life laws.”  “Rather than highlighting the dangers of these drugs, which have caused numerous deaths, abortion proponents are instead trying to blame Georgia’s laws in their push to protect induced abortion at all costs,” she told LifeNews. But these little facts don’t align with the Left’s pro-death agenda. Don’t expect Harris or the mainstream media to retract their “disinformation.”

When Character Assassination Becomes the Real Thing

When Character Assassination Becomes the Real Thing

If Democrats didn’t believe they’d put former President Donald Trump in an assassin’s crosshairs the first time, they have no excuse for pleading innocent now. Ryan Routh, the suspect who hid in the bushes at Trump’s West Palm Beach golf club waiting for his shot at the former president — AK-47-style rifle at the ready, serial number filed off — wasn’t some 20-year-old without a political paper trail, like the first would-be assassin, Thomas Crooks. Routh, 58 and now in custody, “frequently posted about politics” on X and other social media, had a Biden-Harris sticker on his truck, “and exclusively donated to Democratic candidates and causes dating back to 2019,” the New York Post reports. He even featured in a New York Times story last year highlighting his efforts to recruit Afghan soldiers to fight against Russia in Ukraine. Willing to fight in Ukraine himself — though the Ukrainians didn’t want him or his dubious recruits — Routh wanted to be a man of action and was ready to kill for a cause. But if the cause of democracy in Ukraine was worth killing for, what about the safety of democracy right here in America? Routh took both literally and seriously Democrats and progressives who say Trump is a threat to America’s institutions and the rule of law itself. “DEMOCRACY is on the ballot and we cannot lose,” Routh wrote in a tweet to President Joe Biden in April. You can’t lose if your opponent is dead, and if democracy’s in danger, what conclusion does a desperate man of action draw? Instead of moderating their rhetoric, Trump’s critics only doubled down after the first assassination attempt. On July 19, Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) called Trump “an existential danger to our democracy.” In last week’s presidential debate, Vice President Kamala Harris accused Trump of “attacking the foundations of our democracy.” Democrats cut Trump no slack for telling his supporters to protest “peacefully and patriotically” on Jan. 6, 2021, when some of them ran amok and invaded the Capitol. But Trump’s enemies don’t hold themselves to the same standard, when their own apocalyptic language incites a man like Routh to plan political murder. Democrats have tried since 2016 to identify Trump with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. A man with a gun who wants to stop Putin might well think slaying Trump would save lives if, as Democrats and liberals in the media say, Trump is Putin’s catspaw. No one thinks Gavrilo Princip, the man who assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand in 1914, was the cause of World War I by himself. The political climate that led to Princip’s violent act could have and sooner or later would have inspired someone else to do the same thing. The political climate today that inspired Routh encourages others like him. The media have been recklessly uncritical of the incendiary characterizations of Trump that his opponents have trafficked in for years. Listening to the Democrats or watching MSNBC, a terrified citizen might think the country is on the brink of dictatorship, and if ever there was a time for preemptive violence, it must be now. Democrats who denounce political violence while leading their supporters to think freedom is finished if Trump wins aren’t just hypocritical — they’re culpable. Progressives must find ways to argue against Trump without giving ammunition to the paranoid and impulsive. Trump’s life is already in danger, but think about what happens if he wins. On election night, what will people convinced Trump is a dictator do? Right now is the moment to lower the temperature, which should have happened after the former president almost lost his life to an assassin in Butler, Pennsylvania. Yet little changed after that horrific incident — Democrats apparently aren’t examining their consciences now, either. Rachel Vindman, sister-in-law of the Democrats’ nominee for Virginia’s 7th Congressional District — and the wife of Alexander Vindman, a key figure in the first impeachment effort against Trump in 2019 — tweeted after Routh’s attempted ambush of Trump, “No ears were harmed.” An audience member, Corey Comperatore, was killed in Butler on July 13, and the GOP nominee came within an inch of death: Is this something Democrats like the Vindmans find funny? Too few of the Republican’s most strident critics take seriously the implications of their own words. They act as if Trump’s intemperance excuses greater intemperance on their part. If Trump goes too far — and sometimes he does — Democrats have a duty not to go further still, but to pull back. They haven’t, so Trump remains in would-be assassins’ sights. New York Times Lead Blames Trump for Attempt on His Life: ‘Anger Stirred by Him’

New York Times Lead Blames Trump for Attempt on His Life: ‘Anger Stirred by Him’

On Tuesday's front page, The New York Times highlighted White House correspondent Peter Baker’s “news analysis” on the attempted assassination of Donald Trump, headlined: “The Anger That Defines And Threatens Trump Outrage Dominates Political Landscape.” Yet somehow, the second attempted assassination of Trump (nine weeks after the first!), at his golf course in West Palm Beach, didn’t even make Baker’s first paragraph. Instead, Baker front-loaded the piece with the “dogs and cats” claim to hint to his readers that Trump’s rhetoric on Haitian immigrants was responsible for the attempt, not the non-stop vilification of Trump by liberals. The Times also posted a video of Baker that opened with him saying "Donald Trump has long been seen as an instigator of political violence." The online headline spread the blame around to include “anger stirred by” Trump himself, as if he was partially to blame for his own attempted murder: “Trump, Outrage and the Modern Era of Political Violence -- The latest apparent assassination attempt against the former president indicates how much the American political landscape has been shaped by anger stirred by him and against him.” Within days of former President Donald J. Trump vilifying immigrants on national television with false stories about Haitian migrants eating pet dogs and cats in an Ohio town, someone began threatening to blow up schools, City Hall and other public buildings, forcing evacuations and prompting a wave of fear. (Baker skipped Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine’s statement at a news conference Monday that the hoax bomb threats had come from overseas, not from disgruntled Trumpers: “We have people, unfortunately overseas, who are taking these actions. Some of them are coming from one particular country,” he said, not specifying the country to which he was referring. “We think that this is one more opportunity to mess with the United States, and they’re continuing to do that. So we cannot let the bad guys win.”) Baker seemed pretty copacetic, shrugging off the latest assassination attempt on a former, perhaps future Republican president, as just a sign of the times. There were no silly pseudo-scholarly mentions of “stochastic terrorism” here, as the Times has previously done when trying to blame anything bad that happens in America on Republican (and specifically Trumpian) rhetoric, no matter how tenuous the connection. And so it goes in 2024. In the space of less than a week, the once and possibly future commander in chief was both a seeming inspiration and an apparent target of the political violence that has increasingly come to shape American politics in the modern era. Bomb threats and attempted assassinations now have become part of the landscape, shocking and horrific, yet not so much that they have forced any real national reckoning. After years of blaming every awful incident on Trump rhetoric, Baker seemed puzzled by Trump turning the same accusations upon his own political enemies. Mr. Trump, who as recently as last week’s debate with Ms. Harris blamed Democrats for the shooting at a rally in Butler, Pa., that struck his ear in July, attributed Sunday’s attempt to the president and vice president as well, arguing that the arrested suspect was acting in response to their political attacks. Baker briefly admitted that “Trump’s critics have at times employed the language of violence as well, though not as extensively and repeatedly at the highest levels.” But he sounded hopeful that the second assassination attempt on Trump would soon be forgotten (how convenient for the Democratic Party not to be on the defensive during election season) because “political violence has become a part of modern American culture.”

Fan in MAGA hat denied entry at Arizona Cardinals' home stadium unless she threw it away, prompting apology from team

The Arizona Cardinals organization has issued an apology after a fan was initially denied entry to the team's home opener because she was wearing a Make America Great Again hat in support of the presidential candidacy of former President Donald Trump. On Sunday, thousands of football fans flocked to State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, to watch their hometown Cardinals take on the Los Angeles Rams in just the second game of the 2024-25 season.'I do feel like part of the problem was this security woman definitely had a bias with my hat.'Among the crowd were Susan Rosener and her husband, who have owned season tickets to the Cardinals for nearly 30 years. Rosener happened to be wearing a black MAGA hat as she attempted to enter the stadium, but as she tried to make her way through, an unnamed female security guard, who worked for a third-party security company, apparently ordered Rosener to stop."You can't bring that in here," the security guard said, according to Rosener.Rosener was surprised by the directive and asked the guard to explain the problem. When the guard said that political attire such as a MAGA hat was forbidden, Rosener responded with skepticism."She's like, 'No political hats or shirts.' And I said, 'I haven't heard that at all.' And I said, 'That doesn't make sense to me.' And she goes, 'I said, Take your hat off,'" Rosener recalled of their exchange.According to KPNX-TV, the list of forbidden items at State Farm Stadium makes no mention of political apparel. The only vaguely relevant items on the banned list are clothing deemed "obscene or indecent in a public setting" and "any item deemed inappropriate or hazardous by stadium security," the outlet said.Rosener tried to plead her case, but her husband ultimately intervened and offered to have Rosener remove the hat so they could attend the game. The security guard agreed, provided they threw the hat in a nearby trash can. The couple complied."In retrospect, I wish I would have stood my ground a little bit, but I wasn't sure what the repercussions would be," Rosener told KPNX-TV, "and my husband would kill me if I did something with the season tickets or that jeopardizes them somehow."Rosener also believes that the security guard targeted her on purpose. "I do feel like part of the problem was this security woman definitely had a bias with my hat," she said, noting that she is a strong advocate for free speech and would have had no problem seeing attire in support of Kamala Harris at the game. The Cardinals have since issued a statement, claiming to have clarified with all staff their policies regarding politically themed items and to have given Rosener an apology."In an isolated incident at Sunday's game, a stadium security member misunderstood a policy on prohibited items. Like most venues, 'signage, posters, flags, or displays that are ... political in nature' are not permitted. However, that did not apply in this instance. Moving forward we will work to provide clarity to all stadium personnel in these situations. We have also reached out to the individual involved to communicate that their experience was not consistent with our policies and practices and to apologize for that," the team statement said, according to KPNX-TV.Rosener looks forward to returning to State Farm Stadium wearing her MAGA gear. She will have a chance this Sunday when the Cardinals host the Detroit Lions (1-1). Though they dropped their first game of the season against the Buffalo Bills, the Cardinals trounced the visiting Rams 41-10 last weekend to bring their record to an even 1-1. Like Blaze News? Ocasio-Cortez nailed with online backlash after bizarre response to pager attack on Hezbollah

Democratic socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York offered a bizarre response to the astounding pager attack on members of Hezbollah in Lebanon. While many praised the ingenuity and precision of the attack on the terror group, Ocasio-Cortez issued a demand for assurance that the U.S. didn't provide any assistance to the operation. 'You obscene shill for jihadists and Jew-haters!'"Israel’s pager attack in Lebanon detonated thousands of handheld devices across of a slew of public spaces, seriously injuring and killing innocent civilians," she wrote in a post on social media. "This attack clearly and unequivocally violates international humanitarian law and undermines US efforts to prevent a wider conflict," Ocasio-Cortez added. "Congress needs a full accounting of the attack, including an answer from the State Department as to whether any US assistance went into the development or deployment of this technology." Ocasio-Cortez was immediately assailed online for the post. "You can’t even bring yourself to say Hezbollah, you obscene shill for jihadists and Jew-haters! Shame on you!" replied human rights lawyer Arsen Ostrovsky. "It's hard to conceive of a counterterrorism operation that has more precisely targeted terrorists while limiting civilian casualties than detonating the pagers of Hezbollah terrorists. So naturally @AOC is outraged," responded Philip Klein of National Review. "It's the most targeted anti-terror strike in human history. But sure, go on with your pro-Hezbollah propaganda efforts. After all, some of your friends had a rough day," wrote Ben Shapiro. "This is complete nonsense and proves unequivocally that AOC and her ilk will attack Israel regardless how it conducts itself," read another popular response. "This is moral bankruptcy at its worst. It shows such ignorance and bad judgment that it would be deplorable for any normal person, much less a member of Congress."Ocasio-Cortez wasn't the only member of "The Squad" who faced backlash. Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan faced savage mockery after she criticized the attack on Hezbollah. On Wednesday another attack hit Hezbollah members in Lebanon as walkie-talkies and other electronic devices exploded. Israel has not officially taken responsibility for either operation. Whether Ocasio-Cortez's demand will be met or not, at least one report said that Israel did not alert the U.S. about the operation beforehand, implying that America had no hand in aiding the attack.
