Pete Hegseth Sits Down With Megyn Kelly to Take Blowtorch to Liberal Media’s Smears

Shortly after his mother went on Wednesday’s Fox & Friends in support of his nomination to become defense secretary, Pete Hegseth sat down with fellow former Fox News host Megyn Kelly for over an hour on her eponymous SiriusXM show to discuss in detail the coordinated smear campaign by the liberal media and the Washington establishment that Kelly equated to the despicable character assassination against Brett Kavanaugh. Hegseth started with the admission that he and his team will “do more talking because, for so long, what was said about me, what has been said about me — it was so ridiculous and all anonymous that we didn’t want to give it oxygen,” but their “ridiculous narrative” has forced his hand “to stand up and tell the truth.”     He added that, in the end, it’s the opinion of senators who matter and their questions, not “the hyenas in the hallway trying to chirp at my wife and I as we walk down the hallway.” Kelly even made Kavanaugh into a verb in asking this question: “Do you think you’re being Kavanaughed right now?”     Hegseth noted one senator earlier Wednesday had told him just that, paraphrasing their warning to him: “That’s what they’re trying to do to you. That’s their playbook. Get ready for more and they’re going to make it up, just like they have so far. All anonymous. All innuendo. All rumor. Nothing sourced. No verification and they’re just going to keep doing it because you’re a threat to them.” “Kavanaugh stood up and he fought and he won and hopefully, Republicans have learned that lesson...[W]hat you’re seeing right now with me is the art of the smear. It is the classic art of the smear. Take whatever tiny kernels of truth...and blow them up,” he added. Hegseth went onto point out the liberal media cling to anonymous sources, but saw no point in speaking with “the legions of people from who I served with,” “from the multiple veterans organizations that I very proudly ran,” and Fox News (click “expand”): HEGSETH: [A]nd what they never quote — and we’ll get into this too — are the legions of people from who I served with in combat, multiple tours, from the multiple veterans organizations that I very proudly ran and I really want to get into that and my time at Fox News. They never asked the people closest to me. KELLY: No. HEGSETH: They never asked the people who were involved directly. And, when they do, and I’ve got a list right here of — of — of people and — Will Cain and my hosts at Fox News have come out — all the folks at Fox & Friends have all come out and said this is not Pete and we worked with Pete for 10 years, every single morning, every single day. They never ask those people. KELLY: Yeah. HEGSETH: And that’s what a smear looks like. It’s a couple anonymous nuggets, usually from disgruntled people who were fired for cause who are jealous or want a little — a little bit of retribution and so, they peddle stuff to reporters who are interested in the truth. They’re interested in smearing someone who supports Donald Trump’s agenda. It’s really clear. I’m in the middle of it, but you know, I’m surrounded by a great team. I got a wonderful wife. We love this country. We love Jesus Christ, our Savior. And we’re going to fight like hell. There’s no reason to back down. Why would we back down? Do you know how many guys I’m hearing from right now, the guys I served with? Gals that I worked with at CVA and elsewhere? “Don’t stop.” The guys are like — it’s always, sir, you know — “don’t stop, sir!” “Please, keep going.” KELLY: They’re behind you. HEGSETH: “You — you are fighting for us.” like, “You are our voice.” “We’ve never had a voice like this before.” Kelly dug deeper through specific allegations about sexual misconduct and excessive drinking. On the latter, she brought it up as the crux of the hit piece from The New Yorker’s Jane Mayer that was all done “anonymously” as well as the one from NBC making entirely anonymous claims about his conduct at Fox News. She also pointed out the NBC story “oddly includes a Pentagon correspondent [Courtney Kube], which is very interesting to me.” .@MegynKelly: What do you make of the drinking because this is another big thing and this could potentially come back to hunt you with these senators, even ones who like you, right? Because nobody wants — even if you’re not an alcoholic, which I believe, you can’t have someone… pic.twitter.com/8jgfePPayB — Curtis Houck (@CurtisHouck) December 4, 2024 “Why would a Pentagon — like, it does make me wonder whether some of their sources are working there,” she asked, to which Hegseth chuckled it’s a sign “maybe there’s some people in the Pentagon who don’t want me to be the secretary of defense, which wouldn’t surprise me.” On his Fox conduct, Hegseth had a simple retort of “check the tape” before returning to the issue of anonymous sources: “All of those allegations are anonymous. All of them are unsubstantiated. No one’s putting their name on it. No one can point to an actual incidence, any actual place, an actual piece of evidence, none of it.” Hegseth took a few minutes to torch Mayer’s salacious claim about an escapade to a Louisiana strip club: .@PeteHegseth: I was at my brother’s house last night where I was talking about where does this allegation come of me being in a strip club?@MegynKelly: Mmhmm. Hegseth: Cause that — that’s one of the things being reported. Kelly: In Louisiana. Hegseth: Paying — Kelly: And… pic.twitter.com/bVea1YrK6h — Curtis Houck (@CurtisHouck) December 4, 2024 Kelly then disclosed that, on the Fox News/drinking claims, she was “the reason you became a contributor there and that was primetime night, you know, hits that you were doing with me and never once, not even the hint of alcohol or any alcohol problem.” Hegseth doubled down on this being “the anatomy of the smear” that what the left is “trying to do is” have him “prove a negative.” He also got down to brass tacks about the reality of how, between his morning show hosting duties and primetime hits as a guest, he was in proximity to dozens of people at Fox and no prior issues of drinking came up despite what he described as a place that “leak[ing] like a sieve.” They later closed with The New York Times hit job against Hegesth and his mother and the leak of a 2018 e-mail she sent to him amid his second divorce. Hegseth and Kelly refused to pretend to be outraged, admitting this is what they do. After crediting The Times for at least speaking to his mother, he admitted it was a difficult time.  Instead of focusing on the redemptive factor, he noted, the liberal media have tried to paint Hegseth as having a tenuous relationship with his mom: .@MegynKelly: Can you believe The New York Times published that e-mail?@PeteHegseth: Yes, because it’s The New York Times. Kelly: It was so mean. Hegseth: So mean. By the way, multiple — Kelly: Do you wanna say anything about the mean e-mail your mom sent you and then the… pic.twitter.com/xSfqO3q3N4 — Curtis Houck (@CurtisHouck) December 4, 2024 To see the relevant transcript from SiriusXM’s The Megyn Kelly Show on December 4, click here.

‘Let this serve as a great reminder’ — why South Korean martial law decree is a warning for America

Yesterday, South Korean president Yoon Suk Yeol declared martial law for the first time in 50 years. Within moments of this declaration, police and armed troops assembled en masse around the National Assembly parliament building. Mobs of citizens gathered in protest, and opposition lawmakers tried to push through the military blockade to get to the voting chamber and overturn Yeol’s decree. Video footage captures struggles between angry civilians and heavily armed military personnel. Thankfully, tensions did not turn violent, and martial law was overturned quickly. However, the incident, brief as it is, serves as a warning for all Americans. “Globally, [South Korea is] ranked first in education, first in soft power, fifth in military might, sixth in innovation. This is one of the most developed countries in the world, so why are we seeing the military come out in the streets and rise up against its own people?” asks Sara Gonzales. She then points out that South Korea’s government is structured very similarly to that of the United States — with one critical exception. “South Korea has no Bill of Rights, so there's nothing prohibiting government from seizing that power,” says Sara. South Korean citizens are already “very, very limited in the guns that they are able to own,” and even when they legally purchase a weapon, it must “be stored at police stations when not in use.” “Tell me how that's helpful when it's the police force that's coming at you, and they won't let you go to the police station to get your citizen-owned firearm,” says Sara, who hypothesizes that if our Bill of Rights, specifically our Second Amendment, didn’t exist, “Joe Biden and Kamala Harris and Barack Obama and all of these leftist tyrants would ... have already tried something like this.” “Let this [incident in South Korea] serve as a great reminder of how bad it can get if you allow your government ... to chip away at your Second Amendment right, which is, of course, what the left is trying to do,” she warns. Sarah Silverman says she avoided politics because 'no one wanted to hear from celebrities right now'

Leftwing comedian Sarah Silverman said she avoided politics ahead of Election Day because her gut told her no one wanted to hear from celebrities. Silverman made the comments in an interview with the Minnesota Star Tribune about her stand-up comedy tour. The interviewer asked her why she had not been as involved in the election as in previous cycles. 'I told young Jews to tell their grandparents they wouldn’t visit them again unless they voted for Obama. I should have done something like that again.' "A lot of people asked me if I was going to make a video or something. But my feeling was that no one wanted to hear from celebrities right now. Maybe I was wrong. I just focused on reposting thoughts from smarter people," said the comedian. "There is one thing I wish I had done. In 2008, I did something called the Great Schlep where I told young Jews to tell their grandparents they wouldn’t visit them again unless they voted for Obama. I should have done something like that again," Silverman explained. "Not that it would have made a difference," she added. Silverman also said that being on tour got in the way of her opining on politics. She went on to say that her show had little to do with politics because she was focused on the deaths of her stepbrother and her father only nine days apart. The comedian had previously been outspoken in her support for liberal politicians, but in 2021, she admitted that she was wary of partisanship and didn't want to be associated with a political party anymore. She also lambasted the Democratic Party. "It's so f***ing elitist, you know, for something called progressive, it allows for zero progress. It's all or nothing, no steps toward, all or f***ing nothing. Again, righteousness porn," she said at the time. "I've been thinking about this a lot, just in general," Silverman added. "I just, I don't know that I want to be associated with any party. I really, I think I don't want to be associated with any party anymore."Like Blaze News? Humane wants to put the AI Pin’s software inside your phone, car, and smart speaker

Image: Humane Humane, which makes the not-great AI Pin, wants other companies to build AI devices and gadgets that use its CosmOS operating system, and it has released a video that appears to show that the company already has it working in a car, TV, smart speaker, and phone. But note that the video, according to Humane’s own fine print, is for “illustrative purposes only” — it shows “working prototypes” and some “simulated experiences,” and the print says that all “designs, features, and specifications” are subject to change. So don’t take it entirely at face value. In one example, the video shows a person talking to CosmOS in their car (with a blurred out logo on the steering wheel) to turn the heat up at their house and figure out what time people are coming over. They ask their (blurred out) smart speaker about a guacamole recipe, and their TV about how many goals a soccer player onscreen has scored. The video also shows CosmOS reading an email on the person’s phone and responding to a question about whether the person can attend a meeting. If you’ve been following recent AI hype, especially around agents, none of these examples should feel particularly novel — Humane wants to demonstrate that CosmOS is capable of powerful agent-like capabilities, and for companies to consider it as a possible backbone for their devices. But the items in this video aren’t Humane’s own products, and Humane clearly isn’t promising to make them. It’s building an SDK for others to do so. That CosmOS SDK isn’t available publicly yet — the company’s website only says that it’s “coming soon,” though you can click a button to “sign up to build with us,” which takes you to a form to fill out. Humane doesn’t mention any partners building devices that rely on CosmOS — the blurred-out logos on the car and smart speaker suggest the company may have not gotten that far yet. We’ve asked Humane if it can share any examples. Humane may be looking for a new line of business after the AI Pin flopped; we reported in August that daily returns of the device were outpacing sales. The product initially launched in April, but the company dropped the price of the Pin just six months later. Earlier this year, Humane was reportedly looking for a buyer, with HP at one point being a contender.

Verizon just quietly raised your bill again

Verizon just quietly raised your bill again

If you notice your Verizon bill is just a bit higher next month, you're not alone. As pointed out on Reddit this week (via Android Police), Verizon is raising the price of its “Administrative and Telco Recovery Charge” by 20 cents for every line, which you'll see reflected on your monthly bill. This comes just two years after the mobile carrier increased the price of the administrative charge by a whopping $1.35 per voice line. The Verge received this response from Verizon spokesperson George Koroneos after reaching out to the carrier about the heightened fee: “Starting December 18, the monthly Verizon wireless Administrative and Telco Recovery Charge will increase by $0.20 per line for mobile voice (basic phones, Second Number, smartphones, etc.) and data-only (hotspots, tablets, etc.) products," he said. "Verizon Home Internet services are not affected.” As a result of the hike, Verizon's Administrative and Telco Recovery Charge is now set at $3.50 per voice line and $1.60 per data line. According to Verizon, the hidden fee "helps defray and recover certain direct and indirect costs we or our agents incur," such as costs of complying with regulatory and industry obligations and programs, property taxes, and costs associated with its network. As frustrating as the fee is, the fact that the carrier doesn't give its customers any warning ahead of hiking the price of their bills is the worst part. The only way you'll know for sure if you're paying Verizon more is by checking the fine print of your bill every month. It might be worth trying to get some of your money back with this one neat trick.
