Penelope Hegseth joined “Fox & Friends” on Wednesday morning to defend her son, and she took direct aim at legacy media for running with a series of attacks on decorated Army veteran Pete Hegseth since President-elect Donald Trump selected him to be Secretary of Defense. Her appearance follows a number of hit pieces accusing her son of everything from sexual misconduct to excessive drinking and sexist behavior — along with a New York Times report that included the publication of a private email sent by Penelope to her son amid a contentious divorce — and she accused the media of only looking for the bad. There’s emotions,” she said. “We say things and I wrote that in haste, I wrote that with deep emotion, I wrote that as a parent. About two hours later, my husband tells me I should think through things more. Pete and I are both very passionate people. I wrote that out of love, and about two hours later, I retracted it with an apology and nobody has seen that. It was a difficult time.” Penelope then turned her attention to the media, adding, “I want to say something about the media. Part of today is to discredit the media and how they operate. When they contact you, I let a few phone calls go. But then they call you and they threaten you, that’s the first thing they do. ‘Unless you make a statement, we will publish it as is.’ I think that is a despicable way to treat anyone, threats are dangerous and they are hard on families.”

Sean Penn is defending President Joe Biden, who issued a sweeping pardon for his son, Hunter Biden, for more than a decade’s worth of crimes despite repeatedly promising he wouldn’t. The activist actor, who is a friend of Hunter’s, attributed Biden’s pardon to Donald Trump’s re-election and spoke highly of Hunter’s character. “I do not believe that Joe Biden, had he won the presidency, would have pardoned his son,” Penn told Variety. “I don’t think it was a lie; I think it was a change of mind and circumstance.” The Hollywood star also said he was “proud” of Biden’s decision. “Any father that didn’t do that would have been remiss,” Penn told the outlet. “I don’t know if I want to have a beer with somebody who wouldn’t have pardoned Hunter Biden, being their son.” The actor also said he hopes to see more presidential pardons during Biden’s remaining time as president. “It ain’t January yet,” he said. “[So] I hope that it is also in President Biden’s intentions to [offer] an ongoing concerted focus on people who have been wrongfully charged, overcharged, where the extenuating circumstances have not been fairly considered, and that there will be many more pardons that are better for the world than leaving people to toil in prison.” CHECK OUT THE DAILY WIRE HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE Penn went on to call Hunter “one of the finest people I know.” “This is a guy who has taken on the most severe addiction, and has so much to offer people who are suffering or families who are suffering through that,” he added. “I’m glad that the possibility is there now that he’ll have the time and space to be able to offer that support to people, which I know is what he wants to do.” Biden became the first president in history to pardon his own child. Hunter had previously been convicted on three felony counts of lying on paperwork for the purchase of a revolver and owning the firearm while being a drug addict in 2018. Hunter also pleaded guilty to several federal charges related to tax crimes right before a second trial was to begin in Los Angeles, as The Daily Wire previously reported. He was expected to be sentenced for gun and tax evasion crimes later in December and could have been sent to prison.   The pardon covered any and all crimes Hunter “committed or may have committed” for an 11-year period dating back to 2014. The move is being criticized by Republicans and many Democrats, with plenty of prominent figures citing it as another example of corruption in the Biden family.

A video posted on social media shows the moment UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was gunned down in Midtown Manhattan on Wednesday morning. The video, posted by New York Post reporter Jon Levine, shows the suspect walking up behind Thompson as he approached the Hilton hotel. The suspect shot Thompson in the back, causing the CEO to stumble forward and eventually fall to the ground before the suspect fired more shots at him. A person standing a few feet away from Thompson when he was shot ran past the shooter as he continued firing. The gun used appears to have had a silencer attached to it, a person familiar with the investigation told CNBC. It also appears that after each round, the shooter was either reloading the gun or trying to fix a jam. United Healthcare is a subsidy of United Health Group, one of the largest companies in the world. New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said at the press conference that the killing appears to be a “brazen targeted attack.” “I want to be clear: at this time, every indication is that this was a premeditated, pre-planned, targeted attack,” said Tisch. The suspect arrived on foot outside the Hilton hotel in Midtown Manhattan around five minutes before Thompson was seen walking alone without any security detail toward the hotel where his company was holding a conference, NYPD Chief of Detectives Joe Kenny said. The suspect, who police said appears to be a white male, fled the scene on foot before getting on a city e-bike, which he rode into Central Park, according to authorities. The shooter was wearing all black and had a backpack. Police are offering a $10,000 reward to anyone who has information on the suspect. Thompson’s wife, Paulette, told NBC News in a phone call shortly after his death that her husband had received multiple threats. Tennessee Attorney General Johnathan Skrmetti held a press conference on the steps of the Supreme Court on Wednesday after arguing in favor of the state’s law defending children from irreversible sex change interventions, explaining that it is about protecting kids from medical interventions that could lead to long-standing harm. Skrmetti’s comments came after he appeared in front of the nation’s highest court to defend the Tennessee law, which was passed after The Daily Wire investigated Vanderbilt University’s child sex change clinic. “This case is about protecting kids from the consequences of decisions that they cannot fully understand,” Skrmetti said before explaining the risks associated with medical sex change interventions. “Kids on puberty blockers and hormone treatments for gender dysphoria face serious risks of losing their fertility forever, of losing their sexual function forever, of dealing with medical conditions for the rest of their lives including blood clots, tumors, bone density disorders, cognitive development impairment, and others,” he went on to say. Current reports speculate that the Supreme Court is likely to side with Skrmetti and uphold the Volunteer State’s law protecting children from irreversible sex change interventions, given their lines of questioning during Wednesday’s oral arguments. Chief Justice John Roberts, Justice Amy Coney Barrett, and Justice Brett Kavanaugh “all seemed to come down on Tennessee’s side,” an analysis in Axios reads, adding that Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito are unlikely to oppose the ban. Kavanaugh gave perhaps the clearest indication of his position, pointing to the strict regulation of these interventions in various European countries and saying that the Supreme Court should not “constitutionalize” the ongoing medical debate.

On Wednesday, the LPGA released findings from its working group-which included experts “in medicine, science, sport physiology, golf performance and gender policy law” that found “the effects of male puberty confer competitive advantages in golf performance compared to players who have not undergone male puberty.” “Under the new policy, athletes who are assigned female at birth are eligible to compete on the LPGA Tour, Epson Tour, Ladies European Tour, and in all other elite LPGA competitions,” the statement read. “Players assigned male at birth and who have gone through male puberty are not eligible to compete in the aforementioned events,” it added. “The policies governing the LPGA’s recreational programs and non-elite events utilize different criteria to provide opportunities for participation in the broader LPGA community.” LPGA updates gender policy for competition eligibility.
