Replace a pile of battery-hungry remotes with this solar-powered universal

You won’t ever need to scrounge for a fresh set of AAs with this universal remote. | Image: Hama Hama has announced a new 8-in-1 universal remote that can streamline your home entertainment system and save you from occasionally having to scrounge for a fresh set of batteries. The German accessories maker is using Exeger’s Powerfoyle solar cell technology so the remote stays powered as long as it’s regularly exposed to light. Details on what types of remotes Hama’s 8-in-1 can replace haven’t been shared yet, but the power generated by the solar cell located on top of the remote is stored in a supercapacitor instead of a rechargeable battery. The remote is expected to be available starting sometime in the second quarter of 2025 for €29.99, or around $33 SSD. The company also plans to release an alternative to Samsung’s own... The Analogue Pocket now comes in six Game Boy Color-inspired hues

Like past Pocket colorways, the GBC-inspired collection will be available in limited quantities. | Image: Analogue Analogue is back with another collection of new colorways for its Pocket handheld, now drawing inspiration from Nintendo’s first color screen handheld. The Pocket GBC Colors Edition introduces six new colors — teal, berry, kiwi, grape, and dandelion — which were the five launch colors of the Game Boy Color in 1988, plus a gold version based on a special edition of the GBC created for Pokémon Gold. The GBC Colors Edition collection will be available to preorder in limited quantities starting on September 12th at 8AM PT / 11AM ET for $249.99 each, with shipping expected within 24 to 48 hours. To ensure the new collection was closely matched in color to Nintendo’s original hardware, the company used the highest-quality “equipment, tools,... Continue reading…

You won’t believe how much Apple’s iPhone 16 costs in these 8 countries

Apple just unveiled the new iPhone 16 lineup. With new processors, a beautiful OLED display, and improved cameras, these phones are a must-have for anyone who wants Apple's best phones to date. However, this evolution comes with a price, and although the US prices have been unchanged, buying these new phones in Brazil, Turkey, and other countries is costlier than ever. As always, Nukeni’s Jun Saito surveyed several countries and regions where Apple has direct sales to highlight where it’s best to buy the new iPhone 16 and where you should avoid ordering one. He also notes: The US and Canada have different tax rates depending on where you make purchases, so I show two prices, one for the product purchased in the location with the lowest tax rate, and one for the product purchased in the location with the highest tax rate. iPhone 16 costs so much more in these countries The prices may vary depending on the configuration, but if you plan to get the base-model iPhone 16 with 128GB of storage, these are the worst places to get this device. Impressively, this phone costs more than double in Turkey compared to the US (in states with no taxes). Turkey: $1,909 Brazil: $1,396 Hungary: $1,112 Norway: $1,112 Sweeden: $1,110 Denmark: $1,110 Finland: $1,103 For the iPhone 16 Pro Max, even if you're trying to get the cheapest model with 256GB of storage, you'll pay more than double in Turkey and Brazil. Interestingly, while India will also start producing the Pro models this year, it's also pretty expensive to buy an iPhone there: Turkey: $2,936 Brazil: $2,238 India: $1,725 Denmark: $1,701 Sweden: $1,690 Norway: $,1668 Hungary: $1,668 As always, the United States, China, Japan, Canada, Hong Kong, and Thailand are among the cheapest places to get a new iPhone. So, if you're traveling soon and are planning to buy an iPhone 16, remember that it might cost a lot. Pythagorean Cup: Turning Greedy Partygoers into Wet Blankets

The Pythagorean Cup (also known as the Pythagoras Cup) is one of Pythagoras’s lesser-known inventions. Depending on who you speak to, this rather plain looking cup was either meant to teach people a lesson in moderation or demonstrate the philosopher’s sense of humor.   Local traditions in Samos, Greece, claim that Pythagoras crafted the cup to inspire people to drink wine in moderation. Inside the cup there is a line that defines the maximum level of wine the cup can hold. A trickle above that line and the cup automatically empties its contents from a hidden hole in its base.   This artifact is also known as the “Cup of Justice” or “Greedy Cup,” since many scholars believe that Pythagoras—who apparently wasn’t much of a drinker—wanted to show his students and followers the detrimental effects of greediness in one’s life.   Read moreSection: ArtifactsAncient TechnologyOther ArtifactsNewsGeneralHistory & ArchaeologyScienceWeird FactsHistoryPreviewRead Later

Modern Humans and Neanderthals Used the Zagros Mountains for Interbreeding!

A fascinating new study has potentially discovered a huge interbreeding zone for Neanderthals and Homo sapiens from the late Pleistocene (c.129,000 and c.11,700 years ago) who lived in parts of Southeast Europe and Southwest Asia. Narrowing down the list of potential places for this, the researchers zeroed in on the Zagros Mountains on the Persian Plateau, which stretches from Iran to northern parts of Iraq and into southeastern Turkey in modern geographical terms. Ecological Niche Modelling: Where the Science is At While scientists have long known of this interbreeding, the precise locations for these encounters had remained elusive. This is because fossil evidence is sparse, and the availability of ancient DNA is limited. In response, a team of researchers led by Saman Guran from the University of Cologne in Germany turned to an innovative approach: ecological niche modelling, and have published their finds in the latest edition of the journal Scientific Reports.
