It helps us and costs you nothing! https://affiliates.harvestright.com/995.html ─────────────── Before buying a freeze dryer, perhaps research to find out more about the downside of the machine; some people have problems with their machine and it's big and heavy and hard to return! When trying to decide what to freeze dry you can start by asking why. Start by asking yourself this question. Why are you freeze drying food? Knowing this should help you decide what you should freeze dry first. I'm freeze drying because: Just to freeze dry leftovers? You want to make your own food for camping/backpacking? For if/when the SHTF? For a short term emergency? You have your own garden and want to freeze dry the food? You love Costco but don't have a family of 6? You are good at finding the food sales but only have 1 freezer? When you cook homemade chili just for yourself you make 10 gallons? Because you have 3 full freezers and are worried about power outages? If I knew then what I know now, I would have freeze dried things in a different order. Or maybe not, because I started freeze drying because we had 3 full freezers, I was thinking of getting another one, and I decided I should buy a walk-in freezer instead. I started looking into walk-ins and realized they were expensive to buy (even used ones) AND expensive to own and operate. Then I found out Harvest Right was making home sized freeze dryers. One of my first thoughts was "I like Mountain House!" I have used their food for backpacking almost 45 years and we even kept some in our travel trailer, for just in case. Freeze dried food will stay fresh for many years and be ready and waiting when you need it. We do videos showing how we are using our Harvest Right Freeze Dryer to freeze dry food for long term storage. (We have the medium size machine that we got in August of 2017) We talk about how to load and unload the freeze dryer, how to know if the food is dry, is it better to freeze dry raw food or cooked food, and do a few taste tests. Freeze dried food is also great for prepping or just for camping and snacking!

What was Lemmy Kilmister’s opinion on Van Halen

What was Lemmy Kilmister’s opinion on Van Halen

Although Motörhead was only formed in 1975, the band's founder, bassist, singer and main songwriter Lemmy Kilmister was already in the music business for more than a decade. He was part of many bands and even was Jimi Hendrix's roadie for a while. So he had the chance to see the evolution of Rock and Roll up-close and obviously, after he gained fame with his own band, he also had the opportunity to see many incredible bands appear. One of them was Van Halen, which Lemmy had the chance to see performing live for the first time in the late 70s, right after they released their groundbreaking self-titled debut album. He once recalled that show, giving his opinion on the band. What was Lemmy Kilmister’s opinion on Van Halen Besides being one of the most influential Heavy Rock songwriters, bassists and singers of all time, Lemmy was also known for being quite sincere about anything. He always would give his real opinion on other artists and he actually liked Van Halen. He praised the band when he recalled the first time he had the chance to see them. As said in an interview featured in the book "Van Halen: A Visual Story, 1978 - 1984" (Via VNHD), that show happened in London. "I first saw Van Halen at the Rainbow (no, not the L.A one, the old London one, a big theater) back in 1970-something and I thought they could have been louder. Well, I always think it can be louder! Apart from that, they were excellent: an ultimately impressive frontman (athletic in spandex extremis), the mighty Ed burning the strings off his guitar, and the rock of a rhythm section. Killer show and excellent songs too. People said 'Aaargh, they got big hair!' I said, 'If they sound that good, I don't care if they got five buttocks! Each! the setlist that night was "On Fire" "I'm The One" "Runnin' With The Devil" "Atomic Punk" "Little Dreamer" "Feel Your Love Tonight" "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love" "Eruption" "You Really Got Me" "D.O.A" "Bottoms Up" Lemmy had the chance to see Eddie Van Halen later on and to hang out with him. There is even a nice photo of the two drinking together in the early 90s. Lemmy Kilmister thought Eddie Van Halen was nowhere near Jimi Hendrix https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5txwFv-zYM&pp=ygUgdmFuIGhhbGVuIHJ1bm5pbiB3aXRoIHRoZSBkZXZpbCA%3D Although he liked Van Halen, Lemmy in an interview with Spin in 2009, that Eddie was nowhere near Jimi Hendrix. He was one of the few people in the world who had the chance to see both of them playing live. He recalled his experience as Hendrix's roadie and then addressed the constant comparison people made between Jimi and Eddie. "In 1967, I was 21, and the only guy I knew in London was Neville Chester, a roadie who worked with the Who. I rang him up and said, 'Can I crash on your floor?' He was sharing a flat with Noel Redding. So when Hendrix needed an extra guy, I was right there. To see Hendrix play was magic. The things he did with a guitar have not been equaled to this day. He played rhythm and lead at the same time, under his leg, behind his neck, behind his back, left and right, upside down. Fucking amazing. God bless Eddie Van Halen, he’s nowhere near. Hendrix did it all, and when he died, it stopped," Lemmy Kilmister said. Lemmy was 10 years older than Eddie and passed away in 2015 at the age of 70.The post What was Lemmy Kilmister’s opinion on Van Halen appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Oprah's secret 1992 racism experiment on her audience is still incredible today

Oprah's secret 1992 racism experiment on her audience is still incredible today

On an old episode of "The Oprah Winfrey Show" in July 1992, Oprah put her audience through a social experiment that puts racism in a new light. Despite being nearly two decades old, it's as relevant today as ever. She split the audience members into two groups based on their eye color. Those with brown eyes were given preferential treatment by getting to cut the line and given refreshments while they waited to be seated. Those with blue eyes were made to put on a green collar and wait in a crowd for two hours. Staff were instructed to be extra polite to brown-eyed people and to discriminate against blue-eyed people. Her guest for that day's show was diversity expert Jane Elliott, who helped set up the experiment and played along, explaining that brown-eyed people were smarter than blue-eyed people. Watch the video to see how this experiment plays out. Oprah's Social Experiment on Her Audience www.youtube.com

Little girl's viral pink chair costume finally gets an explanation and it's perfect

Kids are interesting, especially between the ages of early toddlerhood and first grade. They can literally fall over laughing because you ripping paper is suddenly hilarious or develop a deep connection with a mixing spoon that they insist on taking everywhere. You really never know what they're going to do and as parents we just learn to go with it. As long as it's not hurting them or anyone else, go for it. For nearly two years my daughter dressed up as Snow White every day, complete with plastic heels, only taking a break for wash days when all three costumes were dirty. So it's not a surprise when one little girl decided she wanted to be a pink chair for Halloween.Recently, her parents posted a compilation video on their TikTok page, Toy Story Dad, partially captioned, "This is her world and we are all just living in it," giving an explanation on her viral chair costume. The best part of the explanation is that it didn't need to be explained. They just compiled videos of all of the times they asked their daughter, Scarlet, what she wanted to be for Halloween, likely thinking she would change her mind. But she didn't, in fact, she started to look a bit miffed at them constantly asking. Every time they would ask, the little girl who looks to be about three replies, "a pink chair." No further explanation is needed. She was a pink chair for Halloween last year simply because she was persistent in her request and she just happened to be the cutest little pink chair out there. Commenters loved her adorable insistence and some included their own interesting costume choices their kids have had."The request, the persistence, the delivery, the execution (chef's hand inserted) this little lady is going places," one person writes."HER LEGS BEING THE BACK LEGS OF THE CHAIR IS SO CUTE," another commenter writes."My friend has twin girls. One was a princess and the other was a crouton as per their requests," someone says. There were some revelations of unique costume choices in the comments. Kids dressed up as an oven, air conditioner, water bottle and even a recycling bin. Little ones are so creative but so are their parents because I'm going to assume it's unlikely to come across an oven or chair at your local Target. But you can see her adorable costume below: @toystorydad_ This is her world and we are all just living in it. ?What is the funniest thing your kid has dressed up as? Or wanted to dress up as? Dog refuses to walk with her mom, but miraculously, her legs 'work with Grandma'

What gives dogs the right to have such big and hilarious personalities? It seems like these dogs have found a way to make their humans laugh while also annoying them until they're ready to come apart. It's truly a skill that only dogs and toddlers seem to possess in great quantities.Zoe is a pit bull with a bombastic side-eye that makes it clear that she only tolerates her mother, Raven, but adores her grandmother, Yonika. There is no confusion about who her favorite person is, and Zoe's grandmother only seems to encourage the behavior. The two of them are the best of friends, and Mom...well, she's the third wheel.Sure, Zoe likes her mom a little—she does feed her, after all—but the verdict is still being determined if love can be claimed. Raven can't even convince the sassy pittie to go on a walk with her. Zoe lays on the ground like a chubby little pancake any time her mom tries to take her for a walk. Raven has even pulled on her leash, slowly dragging the dog down the hallway, but Zoe insists that her legs do not remember how to work. But as soon as Grandma takes the leash, a miracle occurs. Suddenly Zoe is a spry whippersnapper with four working legs and a happy tail."She refuses to walk whenever I take her outside," Raven explains. But that's just not the case for Grandma, and there really doesn't seem to be an explanation for it other than preference. "When I'm around, she is an absolute angel. She listens," Yonika says.In fact, Raven says when Grandma is around, Zoe completely ignores her so she can continue getting Grandma cuddles. This dog has mastered the side-eye, and Grandma is only assisting in her snubbing her mom in the cutest way. It's something you have to witness for yourself to fully appreciate, so check out the video below. This article originally appeared on 7.19.23

People are sharing the one 'simple rule that would fix the world if people actually followed it'

The world would be a much better place if humans weren’t so … human. We all fall short of perfection. Common sense is, sadly, not too common. And there’s one guy out there who always manages to screw things up when things start getting good.Call it Murphy’s law. Call it the great “reason we can’t have nice things.” Call it entropy. It feels like a whole lot of pain could be avoided if we all had just a little bit more sense. But what if there was one rule that we all agreed to follow to make everyone’s life better? What would this magical rule be?A Reddit user who goes by the name P4insplatter came to this realization and asked the AskReddit subforum, “What simple rule would fix the world if everyone actually followed it?” They received dozens of simple rules that if everyone got behind would make the world drastically better. It’s no shock that most of them felt like a variation of the Golden Rule. It’s funny that a lot of folks believe the world would seriously improve if we could just abide by a simple saying that we all learned in kindergarten. Also known as the “ethics of reciprocity,” the Golden Rule is so innate to humans that versions of it have been found in religions and cultures throughout the world. Here are 17 of the best responses to P4insplatter’s simple, but world-altering question.1. Let go“Let go or be dragged” an old zen proverb I heard at a meditation class. Really changed the way I let myself worry about things." — civagigi2. Simple, but true"Don't be a dick." — WuTangLAN933. The Golden Rule"Treat others how you want to be treated." — AlbanyGuy19734. It starts with you"I read somewhere that if you want to change the world, you have to change the community, to change the community change your relationships, and to change your relationships change yourself." — cagibaxii5. Simple Earth math"Don't use more resources than what the Earth is capable of renewing." — DaethSpiral3216. Bill and Ted's rule"Be excellent to each other." — pnotar7. The law of Lebowski“Fuck it, Dude. Let's go bowling." — Bonhomme7h8. Signal"Use your turn signal(s) properly." — futilelord9. The principle of non-agression"Simple, the non-aggression principle. You don't do, initiate or threat any harm unto others, unless acting in true self defense." — ufrag10. It works for everything"Leave it better than you found it." — Narcoid11. Generosity and humility"Be generous and humble. Being generous and kind encourages us to perceive others in a more positive light and fosters a sense of community. Humility teaches you to improve and make a positive impact on the world." — SuvenPan12. STFU"If you are not educated on the subject, sit down and stfu. Let the experts with years of education and experience talk." — Ch3m1cal42013. Fairness first"Everyone gets a chance at one [thing] before anyone gets seconds." — ehsteve2314. Permanent daylight"Obviously making daylight savings permanent." — ObviousINstruction1815. Two ears, one mouth"Listen more, talk less." — TryToHelpPeople16. Turn off the lights"All empty buildings should not have any lights/ac/heating on at night or after business hours depending on the nature of the work. their ac/heating and lights if necessary should only be turned on before the start of the day. This will not only help with energy costs but also with light pollution." — hadrainsgate17. Video of cats punching above their weight gives us a new appreciation for our feline friends

Cats have a reputation for being aloof and standoffish, like they're better than everyone and simply can't be bothered. Those of us who have cats know they're not always like that … but yes, they're sometimes like that. They can be sweet and affectionate, but they want affection on their terms, they want to eat and play and sleep on their own clock, and we puny, inferior humans have little say in the matter. There's a reason why we have obedience schools for dogs and not for cats. Maine coon or Bengal, Savannah or Siamese, ragdoll or sphynx, domestic cats of all breeds are largely untrainable little punks who lure us into loving them by blessing us with the honor of stroking their fur and hearing them purr. But perhaps we assume too much when we think cats are full of themselves for no good reason. Maybe they are actually somewhat justified in their snootiness. Maybe they really, truly are superior to pretty much every other creature on Earth and that's why they act like it. Cats, if they could talk, would be nodding and prodding us along at this point: "Yes, yes, you're so close. Just a little further now, keep going."Think about it. They're beautiful and graceful, but also quick and powerful. They groom constantly so they're almost always clean and their fur even smells good. They can fall from ridiculous heights, land on their feet and walk away unscathed. They're wicked good ambush hunters. They can walk completely silently, like ninjas, then pull out the razor blades on their feet at will and do serious damage in an instant. All of that makes them impressive specimens, but ironically it's their total hubris that makes them truly superior. When they feel like it (because cats only do things they feel like doing) they will take on anyone and anything. Big, small, dangerous, fierce—doesn't matter. That unbridled confidence—earned or not—combined with their physique and skill makes them the badasses of the animal world. Want proof? Here ya go:The snakes, man. I can't get over the snakes. Cats really are better than us and every other living thing, basically. And even if they aren't, they believe they are, which counts just as much. They're either the ultimate creatures or the ultimate conmen. Either way, you just don't mess with them. This article originally appeared on 08.17.22

Heroic sanitation workers save abducted, 10-year-old girl while on their trash route

At 1:30 am on a Monday morning in February, an AMBER Alert went out in southern Louisiana about a missing 10-year-old girl from New Iberia. It was believed she had been kidnapped and driven away in a 2012 silver Nissan Altima.A few hours later at 7 am, Dion Merrick and Brandon Antoine, sanitation workers for Pelican Waste, were on their daily route when they noticed a vehicle that fit the description in the alert. The sanitation workers thought it was suspicious that a silver sedan was parked alone in a field in St. Martin Parish."Something told me, like just look, I said what is that car doing in that field like that? What the car doing? Guess what, that's the dude with the little girl," Merrick said in a Facebook Live video. "That's God."The video has been seen over 1.5 million times since it was posted on Monday morning. To prevent the possible kidnapper from escaping, they parked the large sanitation truck the wrong way on the highway to "Make sure they couldn't get out," Merrick said. Then, they called 911.When police arrived they arrested Michael R. Sereal, the man whose car was mentioned in the AMBER Alert. The police were also able to safely recover the girl who appeared unharmed. She was later taken to the hospital to be evaluated by medical personnel. The Iberia Parish Sheriff's Department's online sex offender registry has a Michael Roy Sereal but authorities wouldn't confirm it's the same man.The young girls' family got in touch with the two men who saved her and have shown amazing gratitude. "I'm just so happy and blessed that I have actually seen the car and we actually responded like we were supposed to respond," Merrick told KHOU.Merrick hopes that his actions will inspire others to be proactive as well. "Don't be scared if you see something. If you know something is wrong, report it," Merrick said. "Call authorities because it could save someone's life."The two men were applauded by the St. John Parish's Sheriff, who offered to buy them lunch."I was just doing my job man. I was just doing my job and actually came across somebody who needed help," Merrick said. "Got me tearing up."The AMBER Alert system was created in 1996 after nine-year-old Amber Hagerman was abducted and murdered while riding her bike in Texas. Since its inception, nearly seven in 10 AMBER alert cases have resulted in children being successfully reunited with their parents. In 17% of the cases, the child's recovery is a direct result of the alert. As of December 2020, 1,029 children rescued specifically because of the system. This article originally appeared on 02.09.21
