Donald Trump and his lawyers appeared in a Manhattan federal court on Friday, looking to overturn a $5 million jury verdict finding him liable for sexually assaulting writer E. Jean Carroll.

A male teacher who was named Minnesota’s “Teacher of the Year” has been charged with grooming and raping a female student over a year-long period when she was 14 years old. Abdul Jameel Wright, 38, was 30 when he allegedly began committing sexual acts with a then 14-year-old girl in his English class at Harvest Best Academy in Minneapolis. He has been charged with one felony count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor aged 13 to 15 while in a position of authority. Most recently, Wright taught at St. Louis Park High School just outside Minneapolis, but he was placed on administrative leave in May due to “a concerning social media post” with “alleged serious misconduct.” A woman had posted on Facebook about the allegations against Wright, accusing him of “taking a little girl’s innocence.” She included audio of a phone call she claimed was Wright crying and begging her not to go to the police. “He has admitted to and gave his explanation for why he did it,” the woman posted. Harvest Best said it is still collecting the facts around the shocking allegations, according to The Minnesota Star Tribune. “We are limited in what we can share until this thorough investigation has been conducted and we are fully cooperating with all authorities,” the school said in a statement. “We understand these allegations may be concerning, and our top priority remains the safety and security of our school community.” Wright is not in custody but is due to appear in court on September 18. In May, the mother of the girl filed a criminal sexual conduct report with the Minneapolis Police Department, according to court documents. The girl, now 22, also provided a statement to police and did a forensic interview. She claimed that while she was in Wright’s 8th grade English class, he began giving her special treatment, letting her eat lunch in his classroom and playing music that “reminded him of her,” calling her every day and cultivating a friendship with her mother. The girl began babysitting Wright’s children after school. One day she went to babysit the children, and they were not there, but Wright was. Wright allegedly began kissing her and asked if she was a virgin, according to court documents. Over the next year, he allegedly increased the abuse, assaulting the young teen in his classroom, in his car, in his home, and even at the girl’s mother’s home, ultimately raping her. The alleged sexual abuse stopped when the girl left for 9th grade. “My life experience has shown me the importance of being a good person, the importance of grace, the importance of unconditional love,” Wright said in a video tribute for his Teacher of the Year award. “And for me, I try to pour that on my students, try to give them as much grace as possible. They make a mistake, we move on. And I’mma keep loving on them and loving them regardless,” he said.  

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. scored major back-to-back courtroom wins on Friday when judges ruled that his name would be removed from the ballot in the battleground states of North Carolina and Michigan. Since he dropped out of the race last month and endorsed former President Donald Trump, Kennedy has been fighting Democratic officials in several states to have his name removed from ballots ahead of the November presidential election — with the consensus being that his name on the ballot would hurt Trump more than it would hurt Vice President Kamala Harris. Kennedy filed suit, and a judge on Thursday ordered that his name should remain on the ballots — but gave him until noon on Friday to appeal that decision. Appeal Kennedy did, and on Friday morning the North Carolina Court of Appeals reversed the prior decision: By unanimous vote, the motion for temporary stay and petition for writ of supersedeas filed in this cause by petitioner Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. on 5 September 2024 are allowed as follows: The Petition for Writ of Supersedeas is allowed and the “Order on Plaintiff’s Motion for Temporary Restraining Order, and, in the Alternative, an Expedited Preliminary Injunction” entered on 5 September 2024 by Judge Rebecca Holt is hereby stayed. Respondents are hereby enjoined from disseminating ballots listing petitioner as a candidate for President of the United States. The stay and injunction will remain in effect until the disposition of petitioner’s appeal or until further order of this Court. This cause is remanded to the Superior Court of Wake County for entry of order directing the State Board of Elections to disseminate ballots without the name of petitioner Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. appearing as a candidate for President of the United States. North Carolina Board of Elections General Counsel Paul Cox has since ordered county elections boards throughout the state to hold the mail-in ballots that were supposed to be sent out until the state board determines whether or not to appeal the decision. “Our attorneys are reviewing the order and determining how to move forward. No decision has been made on whether this ruling will be appealed,” Cox said. A similar scene played out in Michigan, where Democratic Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson — despite arguing that independent presidential candidate Cornel West should be removed from the ballot — refused to remove Kennedy’s name after he requested that she do so. Kennedy again filed suit, and on Friday morning, a panel of three judges ruled in his favor. The conclusion of their three-page decision was as follows: Plaintiff sought to have his name withdrawn from the ballot in advance of the upcoming general election. While the request was made close to the deadline for defendant to give notice of candidates to local election officials, it was not made so late that laches should apply. Additionally, we conclude that the absence of any statutory authority prohibiting his withdrawal gave plaintiff a clear legal right to have his name removed from the ballot. [Secretary of State Benson] had no ability to disregard that request. And, at this point, no other remedy aside from mandamus is available to plaintiff, given the impending deadline for defendant to send notice to local election officials. … Accordingly, we hold that plaintiff is entitled to mandamus relief and that defendant shall remove plaintiff’s name from the ballot, as requested. Former President Donald Trump on Thursday promised that if he wins the election, his administration would cut the corporate tax rate for “companies that make their product in America.” Trump said during a speech at the Economic Club of New York that companies that manufacture their products in the U.S. would see a corporate tax decrease from 21% to 15%. A Harris spokesman told NBC News that the vice president’s corporate tax rate proposal is “a fiscally responsible way to put money back in the pockets of working people and ensure billionaires and big corporations pay their fair share.” Trump argued that Harris “fundamentally rejects freedom and embraces Marxism, communism, and fascism.” “She is promising communist price controls, wealth confiscation, energy annihilation, reparations. The largest tax increase ever imposed, and mass amnesty and citizenship for tens of millions of migrants who will consume trillions of dollars in federal benefits and destroy Social Security and Medicare,” he said, according to Fox News. “We’re not going to watch our wealth and jobs get ripped away from us and sent to foreign countries, which is what’s been happening,” Trump added in his speech. “What we’re putting forward is the most pro-American manufacturing and jobs policy in modern history for any country.”

Former sitcom star Roseanne Barr sat down to discuss Matt Walsh’s upcoming documentary, “Am I Racist?”  The actress had nothing but praise for the film and for Walsh’s approach, which was to use humor to help people “step out of the tiny box” they’d been in and the brainwashing constantly happening in the media and corporate environments when it comes to DEI. Barr said the key to resonating with the intended audience is by telling an entertaining yet important story, which is not easy to achieve. But “Am I Racist?” does exactly this. Walsh agreed that while there’s a lot of value in his daily podcast, there are many people you can’t reach through those avenues. This film was made to have broad appeal to a larger audience. Barr agreed, saying he was doing “the right thing by making a funny movie.” “That’s really the way to reach people, by doing something funny that just happens to be exposing a grift,” she said. In both places, he encountered people unfamiliar with the mainstream DEI language.  “Of course, we didn’t know how these conversations were going to go. But we kind of suspected that we would hear really similar things from both of these groups. Even though we’re told by the media that these groups hate each other. The Daily Wire host said he was happy to report that promising ticket presales allowed them to expand the release to double the theaters they originally had.
