Twelve South launches USB-C charger with Apple Find My support

Never lose your power brick at your friend's house or a hotel thanks to built-in Find My capabilities in Twelve South's latest USB-C charger. During IFA 2024, the company introduced its PlugBug power brick in two options. The PlugBug has a slimmer model with two USB-C ports and a maximum power of 50W, and the bulkier one offers four USB-C ports with up to 120W of maximum power. The first can easily charge a MacBook Air and an iPhone, while the other can charge your MacBook Pro, a 13-inch iPad Pro, an iPhone, and an Apple Watch. Twelve South says its ultra-slim design lets users fold the prongs to ensure the charger fits anywhere. For the Find My capabilities, Twelve South's PlugBug works similarly to a MagSafe Wallet or third-party accessories. Image source: Twelve South In 2020, Apple allowed developers to add Find My to its accessories, such as bikes, item trackers, smart water bottles, and more. While this could help you be aware of a misplaced item, it won't work as seamlessly as an iPhone and AirTag, which you can use Precision Find to easily locate your lost item. That being said, Twelve South also offers a travel package with switchable adapter plugs for the US, UK, EU, AU, KR, and CN, as well as a travel case. Here's what you need to know about this product: USB-C Wall Charger with Find My Choose between a 2-Port 50W or 4-Port 120W USB-C PD Compact Wall Charger Built-in Apple Find My locates your lost or misplaced charger Fast Charges multiple iPhones, iPads, MacBooks, and more PlugBug Travel Includes switchable adapter plugs for the US, UK, EU, AU, KR, and CN with travel case PlugBug with 50W costs $69.99, and the 120W version costs $119.99. Twelve South charges $10 extra for the Travel edition. The products are available on the company's website. Keep checking BGR for IFA 2024's latest announcement. The world’s thinnest foldable phone just came to Europe at IFA 2024

In mid-July, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 impressed me with its size and weight. It's thinner than previous models and much more comfortable to hold. But Samsung's brand-new phone is still 12.1mm thick when folded. That's still thicker than last year's Honor Magic V2, which has a 9.9mm profile when closed. That is, Samsung couldn't beat one of its biggest rivals in the foldable phone niche. About a week after Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold 6, the Chinese vendor announced the Honor Magic V3, a foldable phone that's even thinner than its predecessor. It measures just 9.2mm when closed, which is incredible. Honor only launched the Magic V3 in China back then, without announcing plans for an international rollout. However, buyers won't have to wait until early next year to get their hands on the world's thinnest foldable phone. The Magic V2 launched in Europe in mid-January, suggesting the V3 could follow. Honor on Thursday hosted a launch event in Berlin, Germany, at IFA 2024, bringing the Magic V3 phone to Europe. Continue reading... Alaskan University Offers the Curious a Chance to Adopt a Mammoth

Alaskan University Offers the Curious a Chance to Adopt a Mammoth

Mammoths became extinct on mainland Alaska just under 12,000 years ago. Or at least that’s the current consensus. This timeline supports the argument that the arrival of humans at the end of the last Ice Age, around 14,000 years ago, played a pivotal role in their demise. Nevertheless, recent discoveries on either side of Alaska have concluded that mammoths survived in both Canada and Siberia for much longer—until about 4,000 years ago on Siberia’s Wrangel Island and 5,600 years ago on St. Paul Island, Alaska. These findings have raised questions in the scientific community about the timing of mammoth extinction on the mainland and whether humans were indeed the primary cause. Over 1,500 fossils stored at the University of Alaska Museum of the North may hold the key to unlocking answers to these questions. The problem is that only a very small fraction of them have been dated and analyzed using the advanced technology currently available. The few that have been dated need revisiting since technology has improved substantially in recent years. To address this situation, the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) came up with a novel solution and launched their Adopt a Mammoth program in 2022, led by Matthew Wooller. Want to know how to Adopt a Mammoth?
