We’re clearly heading toward war with Iran. Is there any scenario where that’s a good thing for the United States? A definitive answer from Jeffrey Sachs. Gentle Giant: Humongous Newfoundland Plays With Tiny 4-Week-Old Puppies

Newfoundlands are typically pretty massive dogs, but even they have a puppy phase. One kennel caught the most adorable footage of some of their pooches highlighting the size difference between grown-ups and babies within this breed! In their clip, a two-year-old pooch named Gus Gus was playing outside with several four-week-old puppies. He looked so large compared to these teeny critters! In the sweet video, Gus Gus and the little pups were running around in the grass, wagging their tails with enthusiasm. Since the adult Newfoundland was so much bigger than his puppy playmates, he was careful not to get too rough with them. They all seemed to be having the time of their lives as they chased each other around! View this post on Instagram A post shared by Notta Bear Newfoundlands (@nottabearnewfoundlands) Viewers totally loved this delightful footage of the giant Newfoundland running around with his puppy friends. On social media, the video has received over five million views! “Big floof playing with little floofs,” wrote one user. In the comments section, the dogs’ owner clarified that Gus Gus isn’t actually related to the little ones. However, they do sometimes refer to the bigger dog as the pups’ uncle. At the end of the video, you’ll see their mom wander into frame. Welcome to Notta Bear Newfoundlands! Screengrab from TikTok Gus Gus and the pups live at Notta Bear Newfoundlands, whose name is a pretty hilarious joke about how these huge pooches can be mistaken for bears! This kennel provides a variety of services, which include breeding and training. So, yes, that means you could potentially adopt one of their little fluffballs! Notta Bear also keeps a number of therapy dogs on staff to stop by nursing homes, cancer treatment centers, and more. We have to imagine that getting a visit from one of these gentle giants would make anyone’s day a little brighter! You can find the source of this story’s featured image here. Shameless! New York Times CENSORS Mark Zuckerberg's Belated Censorship Mea Culpa

What do you call it when a media organizations censors a story about Big Tech leader Mark Zuckerberg confessing he caved to Democrat pressure to censor so-called "misinformation"? On Monday, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg issued a surprise letter to House Judiciary Committee chair Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), publicly regretting caving into pressure from the Biden Administration to censor so-called misinformation about COVID-19 and election issues, including “humor and satire,” from Facebook. Zuckerberg also regretted the Hunter Biden laptop censorship fiasco. The New York Times -- the "All The News That's Fit to Print" people -- has blatantly ignored this story. On Thursday, a Times movie critic talked about Zuckerberg and the 2010 movie The Social Network, but nothing on Zuckerberg's letter in real life.  Zuckerberg wrote in a letter dated Monday, August 26: In 2021, senior officials from the Biden Administration, including the White House, repeatedly pressured our teams for months to censor certain COVID-19 content, including humor and satire, and expressed a lot of frustration with our teams when we didn't agree….I believe the government pressure was wrong, and I regret we were not more outspoken about it. The Washington Post covered it. The Los Angeles Times appears to have run an Associated Press story in its print edition. After being the hold-out among the three major networks, CBS News finally ran a full story on its 24-hour streaming service -- but it's still a goose egg on broadcast TV. The Times blackout is fascinating, given that for years the newspaper has been obsessed with the subject of government censorship, but from the other side, being very eager to patrol even private online groups for so-called “misinformation,” with tech reporters Taylor Lorenz and Kevin Roose particularly eager to serve as lead hall monitors. Roose is a long-time foe of conservative speech online and seems to lack both a sense of proportion and a sense of humor. He even finds the Christian satire site Babylon Bee “misinformation.” Taylor Lorenz when she was at the paper longed to play hall monitor, lamenting in February 2021 that one couldn’t listen in on private conversations taking place within online apps like Clubhouse [remember that one?], Signal, and Telegram. (Telegram’s CEO Pavel Durov was recently arrested in France under so-far opaque charges of allegedly allowing illegal activity to take place on his messaging platform.) In February 2022, New York Times editorial board member Greg Bensinger called for the massively popular podcaster Joe Rogan to be censored by his hosting platform Spotify in “Spotify Chooses Profits Over Truth.” Bensinger achieved an impressive amount of self-righteous indignation over a Times competitor. In the wake of Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter in April 2022, New York Times political reporter Jeremy Peters mocked conservatives for suggesting Twitter was biased against conservative ideas and posts in “Vowing to Quit Twitter Is Popular. Actually Leaving Is Hard.”  In June 2023, Steven Lee Myers and Sheera Frenkel made the front page with "G.O.P. Strikes At Researchers Into Deception -- A legal campaign against universities and think tanks seeks to undermine the fight against false claims about elections, vaccines and other hot political topics.” Yet another Times attempt to dismiss concerns about the government squelching of free speech in the name of protecting citizens from “misinformation” and “disinformation” regarding COVID. Steven Lee Myers -- a journalist, after all -- saw free speech as a threat to whatever a Democratic administration declarer "disinformation." His pro-censorship take in a front-page February 2023 article, “Free Speech vs. Disinformation Comes to a Head,” certainly doesn’t hold up well when paired with Zuckerberg’s new letter: Yet the growing trail of internal communications suggests a more convoluted and tortured struggle between government officials frustrated by the spread of dangerous falsehoods and company officials who resented and often resisted government entreaties…. He confidently quoted an NYU professor who assured Myers there was “no systematic evidence any place of a broad methodical plot” between the government and the platforms to censor. On the contrary, social media platforms often appear reluctant to block political content, especially from Republicans, even when it appears to violate their own policies of abusiveness. “It’s not that they’re going after conservatives,” Mr. Barrett said. “They’re fearing conservative backlash.” “Conservative backlash” wholly justified and validated by Zuckerberg’s mea culpa. Followed by total silence from one of the biggest pushers of social media censorship, the New York Times.

NPR Pundit: Harris-Walz Did Fine on CNN Because Conservatives Trashed Bash Afterwards

On their regular "Week In Politics" chat on NPR’s Weekend Edition Saturday, host Scott Simon asked NPR senior Washington correspondent Ron Elving how Kamala Harris and Tim Walz performed in their sit-down CNN interview. Elving said you knew they were fine because conservatives trashed CNN and Dana Bash after it aired. SCOTT SIMON: Vice President Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz, gave their first broadcast interview since they became the Democratic ticket. I - you know, you have to ask it like you're asking a theater critic. How do you think they did? RON ELVING: I'd say they held their own, and you knew they had because the conservative media sphere erupted in criticism of the interview and CNN and the host of the show, Dana Bash. The only snippet NPR aired was Harris saying “my values have not changed” on the fracking question. Elving said that was natural. It’s “what candidates say when they’ve switched positions,” a “classic shift” when she joined Joe Biden’s ticket. “Now she's on her own, and she's sticking with the Biden view and saying she's learned a lot about growing the green economy without banning fracking.” After the touting-Harris bit came the trashing-Trump part, more air time for NPR's campaign to damage Donald Trump for daring to visit Arlington National Cemetery when Biden and Harris wouldn't on the anniversary of 13 American service personnel being killed by a suicide bomber during the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan. An anonymous cemetery functionary tried to block Trump from any photography, and NPR's happily kept this anti-Trump actor anonymous:  SIMON: The Harris campaign called the confrontation sad. Here's what J.D. Vance said. He blamed the vice president for the U.S.'s 2021 withdrawal from Afghanistan, telling a rally in Pennsylvania... VANCE: Kamala Harris is so asleep at the wheel that she won't even do an investigation into what happened, and she wants to yell at Donald Trump because he showed up. She can -- she can go to Hell! SIMON: But, Ron, didn't President Trump deal directly with the Taliban to negotiate that withdrawal? RON ELVING: It's not clear just what Senator Vance is proposing to investigate here. As for the Arlington incident, the Army has backed up the National Park employee who was pushed aside for enforcing the policy against political ads being made at Arlington. But if Vance is talking about investigating what happened in Afghanistan back before his own election to the Senate, there's no doubt the withdrawal was, in fact, negotiated and signed in treaty form in February 2020 by Trump's secretary of state, Mike Pompeo. And it was Trump himself who announced while still president that the remaining U.S. troops in Afghanistan should be home for Christmas 2020, again, before Biden had even become president. And, in fact, in the spring and summer of 2021, he was still attacking Biden for delaying the withdrawal of U.S. troops that Trump had set in motion. Just because Trump planned a withdrawal doesn't mean Biden and Harris can't be held responsible for the horribly botched withdrawal, especially the Abbey Gate bombing. But hey, it's election season, and the taxpayer-funded radio network reliably campaigns for the Democrats with their "news" reporting. If we could see the voting records of anti-Trump cemetery officials, it might look like a hit job. That's why they need to stay anonymous.  Simon wrapped up the segment by asking how important the ABC presidential debate would be on September 10. Elving said the ratings will be enormous, much larger than the Dana Bash interview (with six million viewers). He predicted Trump would be a bully, but Harris could be close to victory: "Trump can be counted on to do all he can to bulldoze Harris off the stage. But if she holds her ground, she'll be closer than ever to being the first woman president."

New simulation game Ambulance Life is a fascinating race against time

Of all the many new PC games I saw at Gamescom 2024, Ambulance Life: A Paramedic Simulator is among those that surprised me most. Following on from developer Aesir Interactive’s Police Simulator, the upcoming simulation game shifts across to another essential emergency service - the rapid response life of an ambulance paramedic. You’re in charge of answering calls, diagnosing the situation, providing initial treatment, and making sure to get the patient back to hospital in time to give them the best chance of survival, and it’s a remarkably compelling experience, especially as the stakes rack up.
