Why Rock Fans Love Sammy Hagar

We have always been really big Sammy Hagar fans here at classicrockhistory.com, and there are many reasons why. Of course, not everyone is a Sammy Hagar fan—the man replaced one of the most beloved singers in rock and roll history, David Lee Roth, when he joined Van Halen. What Sammy Hagar did with Van Halen was essentially take them in a different direction. We’re not going to argue that the Sammy Hagar years were better than the David Lee Roth years, or vice versa—they were simply different. Nonetheless, that’s not why we only love Sammy Hagar. Young Americans Are ‘Spiraling’ Downward

Editor’s note: This is a lightly edited transcript of the accompanying video from professor Peter St. Onge. America’s Hometown Newspaper finally noticed young Americans are screwed. A few days ago, USA Today wrote an article asking why millennials and Gen Z are “spiraling, partying hard, and blowing their savings.” I’ve mentioned in previous videos how young Americans are doom-spending their way to financial oblivion amid low-paying jobs, a half-decade of transitory inflation, and half a million dollars for a starter home. USA Today quotes twentysomethings admitting there are no jobs and they can’t save any money but they’re “just kind of letting the days go by, bouncing from job to job, partying, and just kind of acting like everything will work out.” As a Washington Post editor puts it, millennials and Gen Z are just “embracing an ethos of chaos.” Alas, it’s not chaos; it’s despair. Recently, the National Association of Colleges reported that starting salaries for new college grads are $68,000. That sounds good, but after Bidenflation, it’s about $50,000 in pre-pandemic terms. Keep in mind, to get that $50,000, you’ve got to take on, according to a new study, $300,000 in debt for the average bachelor’s degree. That comes to 4 1/2 years’ salary at $68,000. Assuming you don’t spend a dime. It’s also $30,000 less than college students expected during school, according to CNBC, suggesting colleges are intentionally inflating expectations to sucker them in. Of course, it was a whole different world for the Baby Boomers chucking at the chaos. In 1970, starting salaries for college grads, adjusting for inflation to convert to today’s dollars, were $83,000. In other words, they’re actually down in 55 years. We’re going backward. Meanwhile, college in 1970 cost $1,240 per year—this was before government got into the student loan game. Adjusting for inflation, that’s about eight times cheaper than today. In other words, in 1970, it cost you a half-year salary for the entire bachelor’s degree. Now, it’s almost five years’ salary. Meanwhile, of course, the price of homes—the main vehicle for Americans to build their life savings and to start a family—have become a joke for the young. According to the Federal Reserve, the median house now costs $412,000, which is 7 1/2 times that college graduate’s starting wage. It’s more like 15 times the average salary of a blue collar worker. In 1970, the median home cost $24,000, which was 2 1/2 times the starting wage for a college grad and closer to five times blue collar wages. So, wages are down. College costs nine times more. And houses cost between 7 1/2 and 15 times annual salary. Forget embracing chaos, the chaos is embracing them. So, what’s next? The USA Today article, helpfully, provides a solution: mental health counseling. Not a joke. Some more useful solutions might include slashing government spending so inflation stops and there’s some money left over for small businesses to create full-time jobs instead of gig work. Lower inflation means lower interest rates, which lowers housing costs. And getting government out of college loans would bring prices back in line with the Boomer utopia they broke. We’re setting up the next generation to fail. Few of them understand what’s even happening. Instead, they vote for media-approved soundbites while partying their way to financial oblivion. Kamala Can Run but Can’t Hide From Biden-Harris Record

Kamala Harris personifies a heavenly slice of classic soul. As the late, great Teddy Pendergrass sang in 1977: “You can’t hide from yourself. Everywhere you go, there you are.” Harris is trying to run, run, run from Joe Biden and his clogged landfill of policy failures. Her campaign slogan might as well be “Joe who?” “Harris won’t say it this bluntly in public, but her advisers do so privately: She wants to break with Biden on issues on which he’s unpopular,” Mike Allen and Jim Vandehei wrote Aug. 14 in Axios. “This is part of a highly choreographed effort to define herself—in some cases, redefine herself—as a different kind of Democrat.” And who can blame Harris for trying to put several time zones between herself and her boss’s legacy? • Biden turbocharged inflation, up 20.25%—the worse since 1981, under Democrat Jimmy Carter. • Under Biden, average, private-sector hourly earnings grew from $29.93 in January 2021 to $35.07 in July 2024, up 17.2% but lagging inflation by 3.05%. • Biden obliterated the U.S.-Mexico border and let 8,?218,622 illegal aliens invade America in his first 4?3 months in power versus 2,3?68,?390 during the same period of President Donald Trump’s administration—up 3?47%. • Crime rages under Biden, from a surge in shoplifting and smash-and-grab robberies to assaults, rapes, and murders, many perpetrated by the same illegal immigrants whom he welcomed with bear hugs. • Biden’s catastrophic retreat from Afghanistan humiliated America and telegraphed U.S. flaccidity to foreign thugs and killers. Consequently, Earth is ablaze: Battles rage in Europe. Bombs blast the Middle East. China menaces Taiwan. And the phrase “World War III” surfaces with chilling frequency. But as much as Kamala tries to sprint from Biden’s roaring dumpster fire, the president and his past and present aides drag her back toward the flames that Harris herself helped ignite. “How much does it bother you that Vice President Harris might soon, for political reasons, start to distance herself from your economic plan?” Fox News’ senior White House correspondent, Peter Doocy, asked the president last Thursday afternoon. “She’s not going to,” Biden snapped. Susan Rice, Biden’s former domestic policy chief, told MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell on Aug. 13: “Kamala Harris has been an integral architect and executor of the policies of the Biden-Harris administration.” Rice continued: “But this notion that she somehow doesn’t deserve credit for, and isn’t part of, and wasn’t an integral architect of the Biden-Harris administration agenda is not only false. It’s, frankly, somewhat bizarre and offensive.” “When did you guys learn that Vice President Harris wants to distance herself from Bidenomics?” Doocy asked White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on Aug. 14. “Do you know that this is the Biden-Harris administration?” Jean-Pierre replied. “Are you aware that this is the Biden-Harris administration? And she is, indeed, the vice president.” Fielding a question on “the Harris portfolio” versus “President Biden’s portfolio,” Jean-Pierre said earlier last week: “The vice president was a critical partner in getting a lot of the big pieces, historic pieces done. The heavy lifting, she was part of that.” Jean-Pierre said of Harris and Biden: “They’ve been aligned for the last three and a half years.  There’s not been any daylight.” “Thank you @PressSec for confirming: there is ‘no daylight’ between Kamala and Joe!,” Trump campaign press secretary Karoline Leavitt responded Aug. 12 via X. “Kamala owns the border crisis. Kamala owns inflation. Kamala owns the wars, chaos, and crime over the past 4 years.” Biden has said as much, but as warmly as possible. “Kamala, I love you,” Biden said in January 2022. “You always have my back. You’re really amazing. You’re the best partner I could imagine.” This confirms that Kamala Harris is a treacherous and disloyal ingrate. She can pretend never to have met Joe Biden, but she fools no one. For three and a half years, as the whole world was watching, Kacklin’ Kamala rode shotgun while Sleepy Joe steered the stagecoach into a ditch. We publish a variety of perspectives. Jake Tapper Rages at GOP Service Members Who Decry Walz’s Stolen Valor

CNN’s Jake Tapper – who never served, who was never a war reporter, who got rich off of books and movies he’s written about other peoples' war stories – had some pretty strong, negative thoughts about Republicans who answered the call to serve America. Ahead of Night Three of the Democratic National Convention were valor thief Governor Tim Walz (MN) was set the accept the veep nomination, Tapper lashed out Republicans who called out his candidate. Tapper took issue with how the Trump campaign put out a letter “signed by nearly 50 Republican lawmakers who served in the U.S. military” and how they called out Walz for – what Tapper described as – “alleged embellishments” to “his honorable military service.” The rank hypocrisy took over quickly as an unearned righteous indignation erupted from Tapper over how “two of these Republicans signatories are accused of similar embellishments.” At no point in his coverage of Walz’s stolen valor, had Tapper show the same level of rage at the subject: Republican Congressman Ronny Jackson of Texas signed this letter in which he referred to himself as a retired Navy admiral he is not, not anymore. The U.S. Navy demoted Congressman Jackson to the rank of captain in 2022 after a scathing watchdog report. It has also been reported many times that Republican Congressman Troy Nehls, also from Texas, used to until recently, wear a combat infantry been – infantry men badge that actually the U.S. Army gave to him an error and revoked. Congressman Nehls has taken off the badge, not because it was wrong for him to wear, he says, but because we in the media are vultures.   CNN's @JakeTapper lashes out at Republicans who served in the military for calling out Tim Walz's stolen valor. Tapper, who never served, is at the center of $1B defamation suit against CNN because of comments he made against a Navy vet who was rescuing women from Afghanistan. pic.twitter.com/FNNsCgvyy8 — Nicholas Fondacaro (@NickFondacaro) August 21, 2024   “How seriously are people in the American public supposed to take this open letter when apparently none of the signatories are concerned, that two of the Republican signatories on it engaged in similar things that they're accusing governor Walz of doing,” he chided. Writing off the entire letter and the other signatories who had done more for America than Tapper ever could, he added: “Is it possible that this letter is more about politics than actually being offended by what they're accusing Governor Walz of allegedly doing?” Again, Tapper had never served in the military and couldn’t bother even being a war correspondent in his career (he started off as a Democratic Party operative). He made it clear previously that his respect for military service was contingent on party affiliation and voting history; in 2021, he questioned Texas Congressman Brian Mast’s (R) love for America because he voted a way he didn’t approve of. He’s also gotten rich off of converting the war stories from people who actually served into books and movies; he’s the author of The Outpost: An Untold Story of American Valor. And, as NewsBusters has extensively covered, Tapper was at the center of a $1 billion defamation suit against CNN because of comments he and reporter Alex Marquardt allegedly made against a Navy veteran, who was rescuing woman from the Taliban after the collapse of Afghanistan. The judge recently said he didn’t trust what Tapper had to say to avoid being deposed. The transcript is below. Click "expand" to read: CNN’s The Lead August 21, 2024 4:26:26 p.m. Eastern JAKE TAPPER: The Trump campaign distributed an open letter signed by nearly 50 Republican lawmakers who served in the U.S. military. In it, they fiercely go over these embellishments or alleged embellishments that Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has made about his honorable military service. Now, we at The Lead have certainly covered these issues as well. You heard me just asking about it. But it is worth noting two of these Republicans signatories are accused of similar embellishments. Republican Congressman Ronny Jackson of Texas signed this letter in which he referred to himself as a retired Navy admiral he is not, not anymore. How seriously are people in the American public supposed to take this open letter when apparently none of the signatories are concerned, that two of the Republican signatories on it engaged in similar things that they're accusing governor Walz of doing. Is it possible that this letter is more about politics than actually being offended by what they're accusing Governor Walz of allegedly doing? We'll be right back.
