Vice President Kamala Harris is looking to raise the corporate tax rate to 28% if elected president, NBC News reported on Monday. The federal corporate tax rate in the U.S. is currently 21%, as enshrined in former President Donald Trump’s 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. But Harris seeks to move the tax rate to 28% to draw in funding for plans she would have as president, mirroring a proposal made by President Joe Biden in March, according to NBC. A 28% corporate tax rate would be “a fiscally responsible way to put money back in the pockets of working people and ensure billionaires and big corporations pay their fair share,” Harris campaign spokesperson James Singer told NBC in a statement on Monday. “As President, Kamala Harris will focus on creating an opportunity economy for the middle class that advances their economic security, stability, and dignity.” If passed, the law would bring in roughly $700 billion dollars worth of taxes over the next decade, according to projections provided by the Congressional Budget Office. It is lower than what Harris initially proposed during the 2020 presidential race, which would have raised the corporate tax rate from 21% to 35%, where it originally was before Trump’s 2017 tax cuts were passed, according to NBC. The 2017 law is set to expire in 2025, and Trump has said that Democrats will be “under tremendous pressure” to renew the cuts, warning that failing to do so or making “it impossible to renew” will “destroy the economy,” according to NBC. Trump has also vowed to slash taxes even further should he be elected president in November. “Instead of a Biden tax hike, I’ll give you a Trump middle class, upper class, lower class, business class big tax cut,” Trump told a crowd at a rally in New Jersey in May. Singer told NBC that Trump’s policy ideas would “drive up the deficit” and “increase taxes on the middle class,” linking him to the “extreme Project 2025 agenda.” Trump and his campaign have repeatedly said that they were not involved in the creation of Project 2025, a set of sweeping policy proposals put forward by the Heritage Foundation, a Washington-based think tank. Harris’ proposed tax hike is among the first of her policy proposals put forward by her campaign since she announced her candidacy in late July. She laid out her vision for American economic policy in a rally speech on Friday, but specifics or cost estimates for some of her ideas have yet to be provided. Harris is likely to be appointed at the Democratic National Convention this week as her party’s nominee. The convention will take place from Aug. 19 to Aug. 23. So without further ado, the Worst Media Outburst for Tuesday night goes to MSNBC anchor Alex Wagner for excitedly proclaiming the idea of a President Kamala Harris has to be “distressing” if you are “a part of the white patriarchy like Donald Trump” and his “supporters.”     “So nobody’s ready to write the epigraph for the Trump years, but I do think, you know, it’s a powerful suggestion, right? That Barack Obama is the future. That Kamala Harris is the future and that Donald Trump is the past. And indeed, that demographic reality lies at the core of so much of Donald Trump’s power over his audience, right? The idea that a multicultural inclusive America is actually the road we’re heading down, and that the sort of white patriarchal society that allowed Donald Trump to profiteer as much as he has is going into the rear view, right? That’s a powerful, distressing idea if you are part of the white patriarchy like Donald Trump.  And the supporters who see change, who see people like Barack Obama, who see people like Kamala Harris, you know, multi-ethnic, multi-racial progressive leaders, and are scared of that vision, right? The idea that this might be the norm. And that Trumpism and MAGAism are the things of yesterday, veering their heads for one last gasp? I’m curious if you make anything about that connection and him going in particularly to Howell tomorrow.”Governor Gretchen Whitmer: “Well, you know, anyone who’s doing a little bit of research might have said ‘that’s really a bad idea, look at the optics.’ You’re showing up where the KKK was just at the same time you’re in Michigan. Leftist media outlets like National Public Radio may not have forgotten entirely about the assassination attempt on Donald Trump, but it doesn’t enter their brains when “Republicans for Harris” compare Trump to an enemy in mortal combat. In this case, it’s Pelosi-Picked Panelist Adam Kinzinger. In a “Republicans for Harris” booster story on Tuesday’s Morning Edition, NPR reporter Ben Giles touted how Kinzinger says America's democracy is under threat this fall: “Do we want our kids and our grandkids to be raised in a democracy that is as healthy as the one we were raised in or not? And I think I do.” Then it turns to talk of trench warfare: BEN GILES: On a Zoom call to rally more Arizona Republicans to Harris' cause, Kinzinger acknowledged there's plenty to disagree with the vice president about when it comes to policy. But those concerns are secondary to what he called the imminent threat of a second Trump term in the White House. ADAM KINZINGER: If I'm sitting in a trench and I have an enemy that's 5 meters away and I have an enemy that's 40 meters away, well, I'm going to focus all my attention on the guy that's 5 meters away from me. That's my threat. And that's what we're doing now is that threat to democracy. That 40 meters away are the things we disagree about. We can deal with that later. Kinzinger, who was an Air Force pilot, is talking about shooting the enemy five meters away, not the 120 to 150 meters that was the Trump’s shooter's location. But Giles moved right along to cooing over how the Republicans for Harris list in Arizona grew to a hundred: “In Arizona, the effort is growing by word of mouth. When the state coalition of Republicans for Harris launched more than two weeks ago, it boasted about 40 members. Membership doubled in about 48 hours, according to the Harris campaign, and now has about 100 Republicans backing the vice president.” Kinzinger is scheduled to speak at the Democrat convention on the final night on Thursday.
