Actress Alicia Silverstone’s followers are begging for her to provide an update after she posted a TikTok video of herself ingesting what appears to be poisonous berries on Monday night. The video caption says, “What the heck is this!? I’m in England and can’t figure it out.” Silverstone shared the clip of herself walking the streets of London and foraging a yellow berry out of someone’s yard. “OK, I’ve discovered something that I can’t figure out what it is and I need your help,” the 47-year-old actress began. She held up the small orange-red fruit and continued, saying, “I just bit into it because it was on the street, and we were discussing whether this was a tomato or not.” Tickets for “Am I Racist?” are on sale NOW! Buy here for a theater near you. “It’s definitely not because look at these leaves,” Silverstone said while including a shot of the bush she plucked the berry off of. “Those are the leaves, so what the heck is this?” The “Clueless” star took a bite of another berry and said, “I don’t think you’re supposed to eat this. It’s almost like a pepper. Does anybody know what this is? I don’t know what it is; I need somebody to tell me. I’m in England.” Followers flooded the comments with messages of concern, pointing out that the berry she was questioning looked a lot like solanum pseudocapsicum, otherwise known as a “Jerusalem cherry” or a “winter cherry.” This toxic nightshade species can cause symptoms including fever, sweating, vomiting, stomach pain, headache, and increased heart rate when ingested, especially when the fruit is unripe. Symptoms may be delayed and persist for several days. While ingesting these berries is not usually fatal, death is possible.  “WOMAN! UPDATE US. Don’t eat rando bush-things,” one commenter wrote. “More to the point- Why are you eating random things from someone’s garden?!” another follower agreed.  “You bit into something you don’t know what it is? On the street!!?” a third echoed. As of Tuesday morning, the actress had not posted any additional videos on TikTok.

The Democrat’s 2024 platform promises to remove constitutional due process protections for college students after the Trump administration ensured them. In a section about President Joe Biden purportedly protecting women, the platform said Biden had “restor[ed] and strengthen[ed] protections under Title IX, including explicit protections for LGBTQI+ students,” even though those “protections” have been blocked by the Supreme Court. Title IX is a federal statute that prohibits entities that receive public funding from discriminating based on sex. And when the platform says Trump “rolled back campus sexual assault protections,” it means removing due process protections such as cross-examination, the accused having access to all the evidence against them, and ensuring the accused is informed of the specific allegations against them, among others. Schools have repeatedly lost in court for not providing such constitutionally required protections for accused students. In 2020, the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit ruled that colleges were required to provide “some form of cross-examination and a live, adversarial hearing during which he or she can put on a defense and challenge evidence against him or her,” according to Inside Higher Ed. Further, “getting the justice they deserve” refers to an accuser being able to get anyone they accuse kicked off campus no matter what the evidence shows. Before that, the Obama administration used a non-binding “Dear Colleague Letter” to drastically change the campus landscape and ensure almost anyone accused of sexual assault would be severely punished without the chance to defend themselves. Because the Obama administration didn’t use the proper procedure to implement its rules, DeVos was able to suspend them and write proper rules using the proper procedure, which took years. When Biden became president, he had to use the same procedure to implement his own rules, which removed the protections put in place by DeVos and again expanded the definition of Title IX to include men who identify as women. Those rules are currently being blocked by the Supreme Court, while every challenge to DeVos’ rules was dismissed or withdrawn.

The Democratic Party’s 2024 platform endorses a bill that would create a pathway for illegal immigrants to become “lawful prospective immigrants” who would be issued IDs and Social Security numbers and be able to vote and join the U.S. military. The U.S. Citizenship Act would empower the Homeland Security Secretary to “adjust the status of a lawful prospective immigrant to that of a lawful permanent resident” should an immigrant remain in the country for five years, without absences longer than 180 days. The bill would also allow deported illegals to return if they had lived in the United States for at least three years. “The legal immigration framework was last updated in 1990 and does not reflect the needs of our country in the 21st century,” the “Expanding Legal Immigration & Deterring Illegal Immigration” plank of the DNC platform says. “The U.S. Citizenship Act would permanently increase family-sponsored and employment-based immigration.” The 352-page U.S. Citizenship Act, which has no Republican co-sponsors, essentially creates a pathway by which all 10 million illegal immigrants in the country are allowed to permanently reside here. Very few crimes would exclude an illegal immigrant from being made a permanent resident under the act. Migrants are eligible for reclassification so long as they have not committed a felony in 10 years, or three or more misdemeanors in five years. But even then, there are several exceptions. Immigration felonies — like continuously returning to the country after being deported — are not counted against migrants. Nor are marijuana crimes or acts of “civil disobedience.” Multiple misdemeanor charges incurred on the same day are only counted as a single crime. The U.S. Citizenship Act goes beyond amnesty. Individuals who crossed the border illegally after the bill takes effect would be allowed “alternatives to detention” and offered “community support” instead of jail time. The bill would make it illegal for businesses to consider a job applicant’s citizenship status into account, and employers could incur thousands of dollars in fines if someone claims to have been discriminated against in hiring. Illegal immigrants who entered the United States as minors could be reclassified as “permanent residents” if they graduated high school or served in the military. Such “DACA recipients” could also work for Congress and get federally-backed mortgages. The bill also mandates DEI training for border enforcement agents and immigration judges, and requires the federal government to pay for lawyers for illegal immigrants.
