Tim Walz, ‘Folksy’ Socialist

Have you heard about Tim Walz’s folksiness? Surely you’ve noticed the “folksy demeanor” and “folksy manner” and “folksy appeal” and “folksy mannerisms” of this “folksy former soldier”? If you somehow missed it, the “folksy governor of Minnesota” exudes a “folksy … informal vibe” and “folksy relatability.” But don’t forget his “folksy rebukes” and “folksy plain-spoken and sharp-tongued approach,” either. All these quotes are taken from major media outlets. Kamala Harris’ vice-presidential pick is a dedicated cultural and economic leftist who happens to inhabit the body of an average middle-aged bowling team drinking buddy. And because he doesn’t live in D.C. or New York City, the political media has settled on a nonthreatening description. Who doesn’t like folksy? Virtually every major media piece on Walz is identical in its glowing tone and content, stressing his down-home everyman appeal while deemphasizing his insane record. Then again, as Walz says, “one person’s socialism is another person’s neighborliness.” When Donald Trump announced JD Vance as his veep pick, the stories painted a picture of a dour weirdo who was “radicalized” into an “ideological ally” and “zealous follower of the former president.” Walz, on the other hand, had merely “evolved” into his “progressive” positions, as one does. The word “folksy” typically has two definitions. One denotes having the characteristics of “traditional culture and customs, especially in a contrived or artificial way.” The other to act in an “informal and unpretentious” manner. It’s certainly fair to say that Walz is a more relaxed and unpretentious authoritarian than his tautology-spouting running partner. In this case, though, folksiness has a third euphemistic meaning: “not the Jewish guy.” Has anyone offered a single convincing reason—other than the obvious—for why Harris picked Walz for the national ticket over Josh Shapiro, the popular governor of a must-win state with more working-class voters than Minnesota? It is highly unlikely that anyone wins 2024 without Pennsylvania. Democrats are gambling that the Jewish vote is secure enough to withstand the rampant antisemitism that’s taken hold on the progressive Left. It’s not a terrible bet, sadly. In Walz, Harris believes she can placate the activist base and growing pro-Hamas wing of the party while media covers her running mate as a folksy moderate. It’s no accident that “Squad” members like Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar were first out of the gate celebrating the Walz pick. Sen. Bernie Sanders loves it. Hamas apologists like The Washington Post’s Karen Attiah were tweeting like giddy teenagers, “TEAM WALZ!!!!!!!!!! ITS OUR TIME!!” What about moderates and independents? It seems counterintuitive for Harris, who has accumulated a grand total of zero primary votes, to tap one of the most brazenly left-wing governors in the country as she attempts to walk back a raft of unpopular positions that were staked only a few years ago. Like Harris, the folksy Minnesota governor has proposed socializing health insurance and eliminating fossil fuels. Like Harris, Walz wants to effectively decriminalize illegal immigration by signing laws to pay for the health care and tuition of illegal immigrants and allow them to have driver’s licenses. Like Harris, Walz has taken a maximalist position on abortion, signing a bill codifying the procedure as a “fundamental right” into the ninth month, on demand, with no questions asked. Walz also signed a bill that lets children with gender dysphoria be mutilated by doctors. Aside from all of that, Minnesota has seen a string of scandals and fiscal mismanagement under Walz. Walz, who set up a snitch line to report COVID-19 rule violators, watched as minority neighborhoods in Minnesota were being burned during the Black Lives Matter riots. When asked to call in the National Guard, Walz responded, “I will not patronize you as a white man without living [your] lived experiences.” He speaks just like the average American! Perhaps none of that will matter because vice presidents rarely matter. Some writers have speculated that Harris believed Shapiro, a more moderate political figure, would outshine her. Walz, it is true, has never made anyone look bad. But it’s also clear that the Left is hoping voters will ignore the real Tim Walz and fall for the contrived harmless folksy fella of their imagination. Don’t Try This Tudor Health Hack: Bathing in Distilled Puppy Juice

A Tudor trend for pale skin, high brows, a slightly oval face, gently flushed cheeks, and tinted lips led to the rise of some curious make-up techniques, some gross and fascinating. The feminine beauty ideal was in essence to personify the English rose, and nobody embodied this more than Queen Elizabeth I herself. To this end various make-up techniques were devised and circulated in recipes, a phenomenon spurred on by the spread of the printing press. Some of these methods were harmful, including arsenic skin masks, mercury lipstick, and lead skin whitener. Others were innocuous but to our eyes still quite strange. How about varnishing your face with egg whites? Perhaps you would be even less keen on puppy juice, an Early Modern concoction as horrifying as it sounds. “Unfortunately it’s exactly what you think it is,” explains Sally Pointer, educator and author of The Artifice of Beauty: A History and Practical Guide to Perfume and Cosmetics, who joins Professor Suzannah Lipscomb in an episode of Not Just the Tudors. The prevailing Tudor enthusiasm for alchemy suggested that it was possible to extract the qualities of something through distillation. One of these distillations, which indicates a ruthless zeal in harvesting seemingly wholesome ingredients, was puppy dog water. “You take a beautiful, young, soft, perfect puppy,” says Pointer. It is then (for lack of a better word) chopped up. It is then boiled. “Sadly it doesn’t survive the experience.” Portrait of Clarissa Strozzi by Titian, 1542, where she holds her Phalène dog.Image Credit: Public Domain The alembic it is distilled in contained other liquids, probably wine or water. “You distil it and the water is supposed to contain all the virtues of all the things that made the puppy young and beautiful and adorable.” The resulting water would then be used as a cosmetic toner with moisturising properties. “This wasn’t a one-off,” says Pointer. “We have lots of references to this.” A recipe recorded in Nicholas Culpeper’s 17th century Pharmacopoeia Londinensis instructs: “Takes Sallet Oil four pound, two Puppy-dogs newly whelped, Earthworms washed in white Wine one pound; boil the Whelps til they fall in pieces then put in the worms a while after strain it, then with three ounces of Cypress Turpentine, and one ounce of Spirits of Wine, perfect the Oil according to Art.” Reassuringly, not everybody was keen on the idea. The famous diarist Samuel Pepys, whose private accounts make up one of the most important historical sources for the period, records that he became upset with his wife because she tried this puppy concoction. Kamala’s $90 million jackpot: ActBlue’s biggest day or biggest lie?

Kamala’s $90 million jackpot: ActBlue’s biggest day or biggest lie?

Apparently, we’re supposed to believe that the entire country became excited overnight for Kamala Harris’ presidential bid. Small donations reportedly skyrocketed. ActBlue, the left’s main small donor fundraiser platform, reported $27.5 million in donations within the first five hours of her announcing her campaign two weeks ago. Just a few hours later, that number nearly doubled to $46.7 million. ActBlue said the haul was its biggest fundraising day of the entire 2024 election cycle. After 24 hours, ActBlue was reporting over $90 million for Mrs. Yellow School Bus. Money controls this election. It dumped a sitting president and installed a new candidate. This isn’t some random conspiracy theory. The data is right there. Are we supposed to buy that the nation suddenly decided to line the coffers of the least popular Democratic presidential candidate of the 2020 election? Harris was so bad during the 2020 primary that maybe a dozen people voted for her. But now she’s igniting passion and shattering fundraising records over at ActBlue. Call me crazy for saying that sounds a little suspicious. ActBlue piqued my interest back during the "Summer of Rage.” My research team investigated the fundraising of Black Lives Matter. We noticed this little disclaimer on ActBlue’s website under a section titled “The Fine Print”: In the event that a campaign or committee (a) fails for 60 days to cash a check from ActBlue which includes your contribution (after ActBlue makes repeated attempts to work with the campaign to ensure all checks are cashed), or (b) affirmatively refuses a contribution earmarked through ActBlue, your contribution will be re-designated as a contribution to ActBlue. Contributions to social welfare organizations which are similarly not cashed or affirmatively refused will be kept by ActBlue and used generally to support its social welfare activities. Contributions to charitable organizations which are not cashed or affirmatively refused will go to ActBlue Charities. In other words, if a recipient never cashed the check, ActBlue could do whatever it wanted with the money. Doesn’t that sound kind of shady? What’s to stop a coordinated effort to refuse funds in one area then re-channel those funds to their pet projects? If we’re talking dark money here, this has the potential to be as dark as it gets. The aforementioned text was still on ActBlue’s website at the end of July. The verbiage changed on August 1, amid the “record-breaking” fundraising campaign for Harris. Now why would they do that? Perhaps because details like the following are starting to come out. According to investigative journalist James O’Keefe, Maryland resident Cindy Nowe “allegedly contributed over 1,000 times to ActBlue in 2022, totaling $18,849.77.” That means she would have needed to donate to ActBlue at least three times a day, every day, for the whole year. Nowe denied ever making those contributions beyond an initial donation. It gets even more nefarious. On June 8, a similar person’s name and address were used to donate through ActBlue five times, and all five donations were for the same amount. The name was used to donate 19 times, and every single donation was for either $5.26 or $5.27. Oddly specific numbers, aren’t they? It almost looks like they changed the number by one cent just to avoid some kind of trigger or something. I asked Federal Election Commissioner Allen Dickerson on the radio about this case and others just like it. “My team conducted its own research, finding donations to ActBlue under names that differ only by a single letter with identical contributions,” he said. “Citizen journalists across the country have found similar trends, and we’re seeing similar cases pop up in more states all over the country.”What is going on? Money controls this election. It dumped a sitting president and installed a new candidate. Now it’s being shot out all over the place in ways difficult to explain. This isn’t some random conspiracy theory. The data is right there. It even got the attention of Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and an assortment of House Republicans. Authorities have fined ActBlue at least twice for facilitating illegal contributions. If money controls this election, data from the FEC shows that Harris has only been running for president for a couple of weeks, yet her funding destroys Donald Trump’s! How could she enter the race this late and still out-fundraise a candidate who has been fundraising the entire time? According to the FEC under “Transfers from Other Authorized Committees,” all the money raised during Biden’s candidacy has already been transferred to Harris. How is that even remotely fair? How is it legal? Harris now has the money that people gave to Joe Biden. Millions of Democrats voted for Biden in the primary. Then there was a coup, and then the coup money went to Harris. These are the people who claim to be “defenders of democracy.” They are anything but. Want more from Glenn Beck?
