Canon’s new pro cameras have eye-controlled autofocus and stacked sensors

Canon EOS R5 Mark II | Image: Canon Canon’s new EOS R5 Mark II and EOS R1 cameras both have better autofocus performance than their predecessors, with computations powered by a new Digic X processor. That includes a Digic Accelerator that is behind a new Dual Pixel Intelligent AF autofocus system capable of body, joint, and head area estimation, as well as focusing on people other than the subject. Both cameras share much-needed upgrades, like backside illuminated sensors with faster readouts and Canon’s unique eye-controlled autofocus, which was only available in the R3. Also, one of the most requested features for filmmakers, support for Canon Log 2 color profile, is now included. Image: Canon R5 Mark II The R5 Mark II is Canon’s sweet spot... Continue reading…

US eyeing new rules to keep Chinese software out of cars

Photo by Jia Tianyong / China News Service / VCG via Getty Images The US Commerce Department is expected to issue new rules in August placing limits on vehicle software that comes from China, according to Reuters. The new rules come as the Biden administration ramps up its scrutiny of Chinese auto imports in an effort to prevent the country from flooding the market with cheap electric vehicles. While speaking at a forum in Colorado, Alan Estevez, who serves as under secretary of commerce for industry and security, said that the department would propose rules that would require certain vehicle software be made in the US or by its trade partners. The rules would pertain to “key driver components of the vehicle that manage the software and manage the data around that car,” Estevez said, according to R... Continue reading…

Robots will head to the depths to scan the Titanic

The wrecked bow of the Titanic. | Image: NOAA / Institute for Exploration / University of Rhode Island A pair of remote-operated submersibles (ROV) is heading down to the wreckage of the Titanic this week to conduct digital 3D scans and take high-resolution images of the ship’s remains. Orchestrated by RMS Titanic, Inc., the expedition is the company’s first to visit the ship since 2010. RMS Titanic’s 7-person crew arrived at the Titanic’s coordinates last night, according to the company’s most recent Instagram update. View this post on Instagram A post shared by RMS Titanic, Inc. (@rmstitanicinc) This will also have been the first attempt of any kind to reach the ship since the OceanGate Titan submersible imploded on its way to the wreck last year, killing five people. (Incredibly, that event didn’t... Continue reading…

How to uninstall iOS 18 beta

How to uninstall iOS 18 beta

If you hurried to download the iOS 18 developer beta or the public testing version, you might have discovered that some of your apps or everyday tasks aren't working as you expected. Fortunately, you can downgrade to iOS 17, where things are much more stable. In this article, we'll help you uninstall the iOS 18 beta, but first, you should consider some of the possible issues that come along with returning to iOS 17. For example, if you also downloaded watchOS 11 beta, you can't go back to iOS 18 because downgrading to watchOS 10 is not an option. Apple doesn't let you do that, even if you go to an Apple Store and ask for help. Since your iPhone must run iOS 18 in order for the Apple Watch to run watchOS 11, you'll either stop using your Apple Watch or keep waiting for newer betas for both devices. If you use WhatsApp or other messaging apps that create a backup in the cloud, be aware that you might lose data. WhatsApp, specifically, can't restore a backup made in a new operating system when running an older version (for example, an iOS 18 backup in an iOS 17.5.1 file). So, be aware that you might lose data if you choose to uninstall the iOS 18 beta. Besides that, I'd also recommend you back up your iPhone running iOS 18. If you want to give it another chance, you'll have the tweaks you made while you're using it. Uninstalling iOS 18 beta and going back to the most stable iOS 17 version To uninstall the iOS 18 beta won't be too hard, but you'll have to connect your iPhone to a computer. On the Mac, open the Finder to discover your connected iPhone or the Apple Devices app on Windows. After connecting your device using a USB cable, follow the steps below: On your iPhone, press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Then, press and hold the Side button until you see the recovery mode screen. On your computer, you'll need to confirm that you want to restore it to its factory settings by choosing "Restore." Then, your computer will erase your device. Once completed, sign in with your Apple Account to activate your device When your computer prompts to restore your information from a previous backup, choose the iOS backup you created before you installed the iOS beta Once the device has been restored, it will shut down. Restart the iOS device and follow the onscreen instructions from Setup Assistant. This is how to uninstall the iOS 18 beta. The official version is expected to be released later this fall. BGR will bring all the latest news as we learn more about Apple's plans. Don't Miss: How to install Apple’s iOS 18 beta on your iPhone The post How to uninstall iOS 18 beta appeared first on BGR.
