Supreme Court denies Steve Bannon’s request to delay prison sentence

The Supreme Court ruled Friday that Steve Bannon must begin his four-month prison sentence on contempt of Congress charges as his appeal proceeds.  The one-sentence order, which had no public dissents, keeps in place Monday’s deadline for the onetime Trump strategist to report to prison, rejecting Bannon’s emergency effort to delay it.  It makes Bannon the second Trump White House aide to serve prison time in connection with defying a subpoena from the House Jan. 6...

Russia Issues Ominous Warning Over US Spy Drones in Black Sea

Russia issued an ominous warning over U.S. spy drones in the Black Sea, vowing that its forces will adopt "rapid response measures" to prevent potential incidents in airspace. Russia's Defense Ministry said on Friday that U.S. drones are appearing more frequently over the Black Sea, and accused Washington of using them to conduct reconnaissance and share intelligence with Kyiv to assist with the use of precision weapons supplied by the West.

Oil eases on weak US fuel demand, profit taking

Oil prices fell on Friday as investors weighed weak U.S. fuel demand and took some money off the table at quarter-end, while key inflation data for May boosted the chances the Federal Reserve will start to cut interest rates this year. Brent crude futures for August settlement , which expired on Friday, settled up 2 cents at $86.41 a barrel. The more liquid September contract fell 0.3% to $85 a barrel. U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures settled 20 cents lower, or 0.24%, to $...

Beware Gretchen Whitmer

In 1960, the New York Yankees fired their legendary manager, Casey Stengel, for being too old. “I’ll never make the mistake of being 70 again,” Stengel quipped. If Democrats dump Joe Biden, the president might want to say the same thing about being 81. The biggest loser of the debate, besides the president himself, was First Lady Jill Biden. One assumes that she was the one with the most influence on her husband’s foolhardy decision to run for a second term and could have persuaded him...

Obama defends Biden, hammers Trump after televised showdown: ‘Bad debate nights happen’

Former President Obama admitted President Biden had a "bad" debate while offering a scathing message to his opponent on Friday following their showdown. In a message on X, Obama conceded that his former vice president failed to deliver a strong showing for the Democratic Party and the American people. "Bad debate nights happen. Trust me, I know. But this election is still a choice between someone who has fought for ordinary folks his entire life and someone who only cares about himself,"...

Prosecution rests in Sen. Bob Menendez bribery trial, defense starts Monday

Prosecutors on Friday rested their case against Sen. Bob Menendez, the New Jersey senator accused of trading his political influence for gold bars, a Mercedes-Benz, and cash. They spent the past six weeks painting the longtime Democratic senator as a greedy politician who held court in his New Jersey home, rang a tiny silver bell to summon his wife, and puffed on cigars. They claimed he agreed to take hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes in exchange to steer aid to Egypt, ...

What did Camping Look Like in the 60s and 70s?

Camping became a popular choice for family vacations starting in the 1950s. It was a cost-effective activity for large families and provided tons of outdoor space for children to run around. More federal money was being put towards the park services, and campgrounds became increasingly crowded with families and visitors from all over the country and beyond. Tents, hammocks, and sleeping bags have always been the most common mainstays. But with the boom in annual family vacations to campsites, the rise of the camper vans started. Soon, it was becoming a extension of the suburban dream to have not just the house with the lawn and white picket fence, but to also own a camper van along with all of the outdoor accruement. Camping is still a very popular mainstay in the United States with its gigantic network of National Parks across the country. Let’s take a look at what camping was like for friends and families in the 60s and 70s. Photo: Mark Susina. Vintage Camping (State of Florida Archives) Photo: Mark Susina.
