Michael Anthony gave his opinion on the final Van Halen album

The classic Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony was a member of the band from 1974 to 2006, not being invited to the band's reunion which happened from 2007 until 2015. He was replaced by Eddie Van Halen's son Wolfgang Van Halen. Since the early 70s, Anthony has been a member of Sammy Hagar's solo band and other projects he was involved in. In an interview with Ultimate Guitar, the bass player talked about the final album of the band, which was "A Different Kind of Truth", released in 2012, which had Wolfgang on bass. The musician said that there were a few songs which were actually written back in the 70s. Michael Anthony gave his opinion on the final Van Halen album "There were quite a few songs that I was a part of and worked on and written, even a couple of things before the first Van Halen record and the early part of Van Halen that they actually restructured and used on the 'A Different Kind of Truth' album that they put out. Songs like 'She's the Woman,' that's the only thing that comes to mind." "There were songs that were basically written way back in the early days when Dave, Eddie, Alex, and myself were together that they ended up using on that. But, God, I can't recall. There's probably miles of stuff. I mean, you've probably seen pictures of all the boxes of the tapes and everything [in Eddie's studio]. Which is miles of stuff". "(...) I listened to a little bit of it. It was different. Dave was singing differently. And adding Wolfgang into the mix. It was different than what we were obviously doing when I was in the band. There's a lot of good stuff on there. But yeah, I thought it was a good album," Michael Anthony said. Sammy Hagar's current band currently has Michael Anthony, Joe Satriani (Guitar) and Jason Bonham (Drums) and they will tour across the United States playing mainly Van Hagar era hits and the tour was named "Best of All Worlds" because of that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=taj0r1mbebE&pp=ygUrYSBkaWZmZXJlbnQga2luZCBvZiB0cnV0aCB2YW4gaGFsZW4gdGF0dG9vbw%3D%3D The post Michael Anthony gave his opinion on the final Van Halen album appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Stevie Nicks laments not having the chance to say goodbye to McVie

The Fleetwood Mac keyboardist and singer Christine McVie passed away on November 30, 2022 at the age of 79, a victim of a stroke, after suffering from metastatic cancer for a while. Bandmates for decades, Stevie Nicks and here had a good relationship and Nicks said in an interview with Mojo magazine that he laments she didn't have the chance to say goodbye to her bandmate and friend. Everything happened so fast that her family said there would be no time for that since they were in different places. Stevie Nicks laments not having the chance to say goodbye to McVie “It was all stunningly strange, because there wasn’t any lead up to it. We got a call, and I was going to rent a plane and go see her, but her family said, ‘Don’t come, because she may not be here tomorrow.’ And the next day, she passed away." “I wanted to go there and sit on her bed and sing to her – which definitely would have made her pass away faster. But I needed to be with her. And I didn’t get to do that. So that was very hard for me. I didn’t get to say goodbye," Stevie Nicks said. During the same conversation, Nicks said that it is really unlikely that Fleetwood Mac will ever reunite again, because they really couldn't do that without Christine. Although Nicks says that a reunion wouldn’t work with Christine, she wasn’t part of the band from 1998 to 2014. Since 2018, Fleetwood Mac have two additional touring members, which are the guitarists Mike Campbell (Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers) and Neil Finn (Crowded House). Meanwhile, Nicks continues to tour on her own and has many scheduled tour dates for 2024. Besides songs from her solo career, she is also performing Fleetwood Mac tracks live. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WqTfuUXuQU&pp=ygUSZmxlZXR3b29kIG1hYyAyMDE4The post Stevie Nicks laments not having the chance to say goodbye to McVie appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Daryl Hall says he and Oates did not write together for decades

During the last few years, the duo Hall & Oates reunited and toured around the world but their partnership officially came to an end last November 2023. That was when the feud between the duo was revealed, since Hall filed a lawsuit and obtained a temporary restraining order against Oates. It was an attempt to block Oates from selling his share in their joint venture. Now in an interview with Billboard, Hall said that they were not really creative partners for decades already. He also says that he always saw himself as a solo artist. Daryl Hall says he and Oates did not write together for decades “John and I did not have a creative relationship for decades; the last song I wrote with John was in 2000 and that was with somebody else. We toured and we toured and we toured, and it was very restrictive to me, and to John. The real truth of it all is John just said one day he didn’t want to do it anymore. I said ‘OK,’ but the problem is (Oates) didn’t make the parting and breakup easy, and that’s where the difficulties lay and still lay, and that’s all it is. I always say I’ve been a solo artist my whole life, I was just working with John, mostly,” “That’s exactly how I’m looking at it. I can’t speak for John ’cause I haven’t spoken to him in a long, long time, but I think that’s how he feels, too. And good on both of us. I can still play all the songs that I wrote over the years, under my own name as well as under the Hall & Oates name. It frees me, really. It frees me up,” Daryl Hall said. He is currently touring across the United States and has many scheduled tour dates for 2024. June 23 - Las Vegas, NV - Fontainebleau Las Vegas July 4 - Toronto, ON - Budweiser Stage 6 - Highland Park, IL - Ravinia Festival 2024 8 - Detroit, MI - Masonic Temple Theatre 10 - Philadelphia, PA - TD Pavilion at the Mann 12 - Uncasville, CT - Mohegan Sun Arena 14 - Boston, MA - MGM Music Hall at Fenway 16 - New York, NY - Radio City Music Hall 18 - Holmdel, NJ - PNC Bank Arts Center 20 - Bethel, NY - Bethel Woods Center for the Arts 22 - Gilford, NH - Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion 25 - Vienna, VA - Filene Center at Wolf Trap August 23 - Boise, ID - Albertsons Boise Open https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKy6mokdCC8&pp=ygUPZGFyeWwgaGFsbCAyMDI0The post Daryl Hall says he and Oates did not write together for decades appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

What was Prince’s opinion on Jimmy Page and Led Zeppelin

What was Prince’s opinion on Jimmy Page and Led Zeppelin

Besides being one of the most famous songwriters and singers of all time, Prince was also an incredible guitarist and many people would say that he is really underrated as a guitar player. He was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1958 and started his musical career in 1975, becoming in the following decades a huge Pop star. Many times a mysterious figure, not always Prince, talked about other artists but he already talked about the legendary guitarist Jimmy Page and Led Zeppelin a few times. What was Prince's opinion on Jimmy Page and Led Zeppelin Although Prince used in his compositions, influences that weren't really similar to what Led Zeppelin did on their career, he actually liked the band. However, he criticized a few things about Jimmy Page. In an interview with Mojo back in 2014 he said: “Jimmy Page is cool. But he couldn't keep a sequence without John Bonham behind him. He went from one to four without stopping at two and three. (He then looked at Donna Grantis, his guitar player, saying:) “I want her to be her own favorite guitar player. I want everyone at Paisley Park to be their own favorite guitarist, saxophonist, whatever. I don't want people to play like nobody else," Prince said at the time. Curiously, Zeppelin's vocalist Robert Plant has been a huge fan of Prince since the 80s. In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine in 1988, even suggested that they should work together. He said that he liked the musician for his “sheer entertainment and audacity”. Also that “Prince and (Jimmy) Page together would be great.” He also said at the time that he would love to work with Prince one day. But also that he would probably feel intimidated by how good the American artist was. Prince not only showed his amazing guitar playing on the studio albums, but also playing live. One of his most incredible performances happened when he played the guitar solo in "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", during the ceremony of George Harrison's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Prince covered Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love" multiple times https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMVFYGYr76A&pp=ygUXcHJpbmNlIHdob2xlIGxvdHRhIGxvdmU%3D During his career, Prince recorded 42 studio albums and sold an estimated amount of more than 100 million records worldwide. He had a really huge amount of songs to feature on his live shows but at least 50 times, according to Setlist FM, he featured the Led Zeppelin track "Whole Lotta Love". As can be heard in the video, it was really a unique version with a different touch. Talking with Rolling Stone magazine back in 1985, Prince was asked if he was bothered that people called one of his albums psychedelic. He then used Zeppelin as an example. "I don’t mind that, because that was the only period in recent history that delivered songs and colors. Led Zeppelin, for example, would make you feel differently on each song." Prince tragically passed away in 2016 at the age of 57, a victim of an accidental fentanyl overdose. The post What was Prince’s opinion on Jimmy Page and Led Zeppelin appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.
