Summer Solstice: Longest Day of the Year – Mysteries and Myths

As the sun reaches its highest point in the sky, illuminating the world with its golden rays, we mark the arrival of the summer solstice. This astronomical event, occurring annually between June 20 and 22 in the Northern Hemisphere, signifies the longest day and the shortest night of the year. The summer solstice is not just a scientific phenomenon; it is a celebration of light, life, and the vibrant energy of summer. Let’s delve into the significance, history, and various cultural festivities that surround this special day. The Science Behind the Solstice The summer solstice occurs when the Earth’s axial tilt is most inclined towards the sun, positioning the sun directly over the Tropic of Cancer at 23.5 degrees north latitude. This tilt, combined with the Earth’s elliptical orbit around the sun, is responsible for the varying lengths of days and nights throughout the year. During the solstice, the North Pole experiences continuous daylight, known as the midnight sun, while the Southern Hemisphere experiences its winter solstice, the shortest day of the year. The solstice marks a turning point in the Earth’s annual cycle. From this day forward, the sun begins its gradual retreat southward, and the days will start to shorten until the winter solstice. This shifting balance of light and darkness has profound effects on our environment, influencing weather patterns, plant growth, and animal behaviors. sceince-summer-solstice Historical and Cultural Significance The summer solstice has been celebrated for millennia, with ancient civilizations recognizing its importance and incorporating it into their cultural and religious practices. Stonehenge, England: One of the most famous solstice celebrations takes place at Stonehenge. This prehistoric monument, dating back over 4,000 years, aligns perfectly with the sunrise on the summer solstice. Thousands of people gather to witness the sun rising over the Heel Stone, a sight that has fascinated humans for centuries. The purpose of Stonehenge remains a mystery, but its alignment suggests that it served as an astronomical observatory and a place of spiritual significance. Summer_Solstice_Sunrise_over_Stonehenge_2005 Midsummer in Scandinavia: In Sweden, Finland, and other Scandinavian countries, Midsummer is a major festival marked by dancing around maypoles, singing traditional songs, and enjoying feasts with family and friends. The holiday, known as Midsommar in Sweden, is a time to celebrate nature, fertility, and the bountiful summer. Bonfires are lit to ward off evil spirits, and people wear floral wreaths and garlands as symbols of life and renewal. Inti Raymi, Peru: The Inca civilization in Peru celebrated Inti Raymi, the Festival of the Sun, honoring the sun god Inti. This event, which coincides with the winter solstice in the Southern Hemisphere, involves elaborate rituals, dances, and sacrifices to ensure a good harvest. The festival was suppressed by Spanish colonizers but has been revived in modern times as a cultural heritage event, attracting thousands of visitors to the ancient city of Cusco. Kupala Night, Eastern Europe: In countries like Ukraine, Poland, and Belarus, Kupala Night is celebrated with bonfires, jumping over flames, and searching for the mythical fern flower. The festival combines pagan traditions with Christian elements, highlighting themes of love, fertility, and purification. Couples leap over bonfires to strengthen their bonds, and young people search for the elusive fern flower, believed to bring good fortune and happiness. Mysteries and Myths The summer solstice is shrouded in mysteries and myths that have intrigued humans for centuries. Ley Lines and Energies: Some theories suggest that ancient monuments like Stonehenge are located on ley lines, which are thought to be alignments of powerful earth energies. These lines purportedly connect various historical and spiritual sites, creating a network of energy that can be harnessed during solstices and equinoxes. While scientifically unproven, ley lines continue to captivate the imagination of many. Ley Lines and Energies The Midnight Sun: In regions above the Arctic Circle, the phenomenon of the midnight sun occurs, where the sun remains visible at midnight. This continuous daylight has profound effects on the human psyche, leading to increased energy and activity levels. However, it also presents challenges, such as difficulty sleeping and maintaining circadian rhythms. Ancient Astronomical Knowledge: The precise alignment of ancient structures with solstitial points suggests a sophisticated understanding of astronomy among prehistoric peoples. How they acquired such knowledge and the exact purposes of these alignments remain subjects of ongoing research and debate. Modern Celebrations and Activities Today, the summer solstice is an opportunity for people around the world to reconnect with nature and each other. Various activities and traditions have evolved, blending ancient customs with contemporary practices: Sunrise Gatherings: People flock to natural landmarks, parks, and beaches to witness the sunrise. These gatherings often include meditation, yoga, and communal celebrations, fostering a sense of unity and peace. Festivals and Music: Many cities host summer solstice festivals featuring live music, dance performances, and cultural showcases. These events celebrate the diversity and vibrancy of local communities. Gardening and Outdoor Activities: The solstice is a perfect time to engage in gardening, hiking, and picnics. The extended daylight hours provide ample opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and appreciate the beauty of the natural world. Spiritual Practices: For some, the summer solstice is a time for spiritual reflection and rituals. Practices such as lighting candles, creating altars, and offering gratitude to the sun are common ways to honor the solstice. Embracing the Light The summer solstice is a reminder of the cyclical nature of life and the importance of balance. As we revel in the abundance of light and warmth, it is also a time to reflect on personal growth and renewal. Whether through ancient traditions or modern festivities, the solstice encourages us to celebrate the Earth, our communities, and the radiant energy of the sun. So, as the longest day unfolds, take a moment to bask in the light, embrace the season, and join in the global celebration of the summer solstice.

Media Goes All In On White House’s ‘Cheap Fakes’ Narrative

Legacy media outlets appear to have gotten the message — straight from the White House — on how to handle a rash of recent viral video clips that show an unflattering side of President Joe Biden looking lost, frail, or old. The White House has repeatedly referred to these video clips — many of which were not edited and provided full context of the situation in which they were taken — as “cheap fakes,” claiming that they were intentionally deceptive or promoting outright lies about President Biden and his mental state. “They are done in bad faith. And some of your news organizations have, have been very clear, have stressed that these right-wing, the right-wing critics of the president have a credibility problem because of the fact-checkers have repeatedly caught them pushing misinformation, disinformation,” White House Press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre complained during a recent briefing. “And so we see this, and this is something coming from your part of the world, calling them cheap fakes and misinformation.” Left-leaning media outlets immediately grabbed buckets and began dutifully carrying the Biden administration’s talking points, as reported by Newsbusters. WATCH: Looks like state-controlled media got the White House talking points, because now they’re pretending that any video which makes Biden look old is a “cheap fake.” ? by @Banned_Bill pic.twitter.com/KqltMIV8az — MRC NewsBusters (@newsbusters) June 19, 2024 Grabien founder Tom S. Elliott compiled a list of how much time “the corporate media” spent discussing the phrase “cheap fakes,” and the results were through the roof. “ORDERS RECEIVED: In the last 3 days, the corporate media has spent 49 hours circulating the White House’s ‘cheap fakes’ talking point,” he commented, sharing a screenshot of the data. CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP The coverage was so pervasive that it drew mockery from Fox News host Greg Gutfeld, who wondered where the anti-hoax, anti-cheap fake media had been when the deceptive editing was being perpetrated against former President Donald Trump. “Where were these anti-hoaxers when there was the ‘fine people hoax,’ the ‘drinking bleach hoax,’ the ‘koi pond hoax,’ the ‘migrant kids in cages hoax,’ the ‘border patrol whipping migrants hoax,’ the ‘lab leak is a conspiracy theory hoax,’ the ‘Russian collusion hoax,’ the ‘Don’t Say Gay Bill hoax’ … did I leave any — the ‘Pee Tape hoax,” Gutfeld said, nearly running himself out of breath as he tried to list them all. “Where were they?”

Missouri Attorney General Sues Tech Giant IBM Alleging Discrimination Against Whites, Asians, Men

Missouri’s Attorney General Andrew Bailey filed a lawsuit against technology giant International Business Machines (IBM), alleging that the company engaged in discriminatory hiring practices against white, Asian, and male applicants – even compelling employees to go along with discriminatory policies by tying compensation to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) metrics. Bailey told The Daily Wire that this is “a lawsuit to end corporate racism at IBM,” with the suit alleging that the corporation uses a “diversity modifier” system that ties the compensation of its executives to their willingness to meet various identity-based quotas that discriminate against white, Asian, and male job candidates. “But if he or she fails to meet it, IBM swings the stick: they lose part of their bonus and, eventually, their job,” the lawsuit says. “We will not tolerate racist employment policies in the state of Missouri. That’s the plain text of the Missouri Human Rights Act,” Bailey explained. “It has come to my attention that IBM has adopted an unlawful policy that blatantly favors applicants of a certain gender or skin color over others, and that managers within the company who refuse to comply with said policy face adverse action, including and up to, termination,” Bailey said. IBM’s CEO Arvind Krishna even reportedly admitted that the company was engaged in race-based hiring in a leaked video posted to X by undercover journalist James O’Keefe. “I expect at the executive level, so that, that is not just my directs, but all executives in the company, have to move forward by 1% on both underrepresented minorities,” the CEO said. BREAKING LEAKED VIDEO: CEO of IBM @ArvindKrishna admits to using coercion to fire people and take away their bonuses unless they discriminate in the hiring process. “You got to move both forward by a percentage that leads to a plus on your bonus,” Krishna said about hiring… pic.twitter.com/UUK26HX8IP — James O’Keefe (@JamesOKeefeIII) December 12, 2023 Krishna warned that those who did not increase the number of new hires from various racial groups would lose part of their bonuses. Paul Cormier, the former CEO of IBM’s subsidiary Red Hat, also boasted about the DEI policies in place at the company. Cormier explained that multiple leaders “weren’t willing to live up to the standards” and were “held accountable” to the point that they were no longer employed with the company. “We’re going to hold, we are continuing to hold, and going to hold even more of our executives accountable for all of this and they will have metrics around this,” Cormier added. Bailey’s lawsuit said tying a “quota system to bonus compensations” is “a cudgel against those who do not fall in line.” The Attorney General went on to point out that IBM’s “discriminatory practices” were not the result of stray mid-level managers, but a conscious initiative from the most powerful people at the company. “What we have in IBM is a culture of racism from the top down. We’re not talking about a mid-level bureaucrat. We’re talking about the CEO of the entire company threatening his corporate executives with sanction if they don’t abide by his racist policies.” CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP “Missourians deserve answers as to why one of the largest technology and consulting companies in the world, with offices based in Missouri, is discriminating against both prospective and current employees,” he added. The Daily Wire previously revealed that the tech giant was engaged in anti-white, anti-Asian, and anti-male discrimination, hosting an internship opportunity that was only open to those of certain backgrounds. An internship for “underrepresented minorities” listed off the approved racial and ethnic backgrounds, explaining that applicants had to be “African American, Hispanic, or Indigenous.” Another IBM internship, called the “Internship for Undergraduate Women,” stipulated that “applicants must be female, including all students who present or identify as women and/or trans women.” David Bernstein, a professor at George Mason University’s Antonin Scalia School of Law, told The Daily Wire that these internship programs “clearly violate Title VII,” which bars race and sex-based employment preferences.

RFK Jr. Fails To Qualify For CNN Presidential Debate

Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. failed to qualify for the first presidential debate of the 2024 election cycle that CNN set to host in one week. CNN said the qualification window closed after midnight on Thursday, with President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump meeting the requirements. Kennedy did not meet the criteria to appear, a CNN spokesperson told NBC News. He missed the threshold to qualify in two key areas. Candidates needed to receive at least 15% in four national polls approved by CNN. Kennedy only earned that percentage in three of the accepted surveys. In addition, Kennedy is not on a sufficient number of state ballots to reach the requisite 270 electoral vote threshold to win the presidency. Kennedy’s signature-gathering effort has gained him ballot access in six states as of Thursday, according to The New York Times, which totals just 89 Electoral College votes. In a statement, Kennedy said his exclusion from the debate is “undemocratic, un-American, and cowardly.” Kennedy filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) at the end of last month, accusing CNN of colluding with Biden and Trump to keep him off the debate stage. The complaint alleged that CNN was making “prohibited corporate contributions” to Biden and Trump by demanding Kennedy meet different criteria. CNN defended its requirements, noting how Trump and Biden meet the ballot access threshold because they are the presumptive nominees of major parties. The last time a third-party candidate appeared in a presidential debate was in 1992 when Ross Perot faced off against President George H.W. Bush and Arkansas Democratic Governor Bill Clinton. Clinton won the election but did not receive a mandate. Kennedy initially ran this cycle as a Democrat but shifted to an independent campaign after criticizing his party for not holding primary debates, among other gripes. CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP CNN’s debate is slated for 9 p.m. ET on Thursday, June 27. “State of the Union” anchors Jake Tapper and Dana Bash have been selected as moderators. It is expected to be a 90-minute event with two commercial breaks during which staff are not allowed to interact with their candidate. There will be no studio audience. Rules include no props, a coin flip to determine who stands at what podium, and muting each candidate’s microphone when it is not his turn to speak. Another presidential debate between Biden and Trump is planned for Tuesday, September 10. ABC News, the host, has set criteria that match CNN’s requirements.
