People recorded Nancy Pelosi and Samuel Alito. The circumstances behind the recordings of the two most prominent Italian-Americans in U.S. public life diverge from that point. “We have responsibility, Terri,” then-Speaker Pelosi told her chief of staff on Jan. 6, 2021. “We did not have any accountability for what was going on there, and we should have. This is ridiculous. She knew enough to bring her documentarian daughter on Jan. 6 — but not to invite the National Guard. She also knew enough not to publicize this video while in House leadership. (READ MORE: ‘No, I Don’t Believe You, and It Isn’t My Fault — It’s Yours’) As Alexandra Pelosi filmed, she admitted: “I take responsibility for not having them just prepare for more.” More recently, a left-wing activist named Lauren Windsor surreptitiously recorded U.S. Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito and subsequently shared snippets with the world. Windsor, posing as a conservative Christian, pushed the conversation in her desired direction in expressing doubt about right and left compromising, and instead advocated victory for conservatives. “I think you’re probably right,” Alito responded. “On one side or the other — one side or the other is going to win. I don’t know. I mean, there can be a way of working — a way of living together peacefully, but it’s difficult, you know because there are differences on fundamental things that really can’t be compromised. They really can’t be compromised. So, it’s not like you are going to split the difference.” It seems more observation than declaration. The activist making a fuss about Alito’s mundane comments, presumably, does not think progressives should compromise. Her decision to secretly record political enemies for a gotcha moment indicates as much. Alito authoring the Dobbs decision that did not outlaw abortion anywhere (Roe legalized it everywhere) but instead allowed states to choose indicates that he does not believe in riding roughshod over the Constitution to defeat the left. On that abortion question, where does Windsor want to “split the difference” for tranquility’s sake? (READ MORE: Democrats Overreach on the Alito Flag Kerfuffle) If that does not spotlight her as a hypocrite, then her past outrage over Project Veritas utilizing the same undercover methods she now deploys does. “James O’Keefe and his minions at Project Veritas infiltrated my office, Democracy Partners, in 2016. We filed a lawsuit in 2017,” Windsor wrote in 2023 before calling him a “scumbag.” Last week, she posed as a member of the religious right at the Supreme Court Historical Society’s annual dinner in surreptitiously recording various attendees. The situational ethics on display in the juxtaposition, and in Windsor projecting her own no-quarter mindset on Alito and then feigning indignation, gets to the heart of what animates the left: the ends justify the means. Situational ethics govern. Political difference, not ethical difference, amounts to the scandal for Windsor. The tale of two recordings tells separate stories. In 2021, Nancy Pelosi allowed her daughter to video her. Last week, Lauren Windsor, a critic of such stings when perpetrated by conservative types, recorded a Supreme Court justice without his knowledge while portraying a false persona. The latter recording received sensationalistic coverage upon its almost immediate release; the former sat suppressed for years and ignored by large swaths of the media upon its delayed release. Over my morning coffee, I read reports that thousands of pro-Hamas demonstrators had encircled the White House chanting the usual tired slogans: “Globalize the Intifada,” or “From the river to the sea.” In the mainstream media coverage, one couldn’t help but notice the insistence on “normalizing” the event — in much the same manner as the “mostly peaceful protests” of the summer of 2020 — and one couldn’t help but suspect that if the demonstrators had been chanting something like “stop the steal,” these same media outlets would have fanned themselves into fury about the “end of democracy.” It’s not a point I mean to belabor, not least because I suspect that, in the coming days, many of my fellow conservative commentators will make this and similar points about the hypocrisy of the media, the defacement of statuary in Lafayette Park, and the deeply frightening symbolism of the crowd’s drawing a “red line” around the White House. It will be hard not to draw parallels with Jan. 6 and wonder at the comparatively soft treatment that these “death to America” fanatics are likely to draw from D.C. and federal authorities. (READ MORE: A Message From Europe) But I will leave all that to others, at least for now. After coffee and the morning news, I attended Mass, and this morning’s homily brought me up short, not just because of its theological message, but also because of what — I’m sure quite unintentionally — the Gospel passage had to say about the Intifada that has now taken root here in the U.S. The citation is from Mark 3:27 and, in the King James Version it reads as follows: No man can enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house. The priest used this text to make an important point about how Christ protects us. I trust he will forgive me if I take the words and apply them in a more worldly context, one driven by the vision of Intifada at the gates of the White House. The parable may be taken in various ways. One is that of a stronger man breaking into the house, subduing the householder by brute force, binding him, and then looting the place. We see such scenarios played out weekly on our TV screens, although sometimes it’s not one attacker, but a gang of thieves. One can also think of how such brutality affects the lives of others, for example, the neighbors who now live in fear of similar home invasions, or the women who fear the streets after dark. If that fear is coupled with a shortage of police officers or a failed justice system it becomes a solvent — one that dissolves the ties that hold our social fabric together. We understand all too well how this works, not just on TV, but in real life. We’ve Lost the Will to Stand Up for Ourselves My intent, however, is to apply the parable of the strong man more broadly, for the insight it provides into the larger issues of national security that confront us today. In a geopolitical context, one can think of Russia’s breaking into Ukraine, a prospective Chinese invasion of Taiwan, or, in the case of Israel, several gangs of violent criminals, Hamas and Hezbollah, egged on by Iran, an evil mastermind pulling the strings. The raw violence now on display — the brutality of the break-ins, the bullying threats at every turn, and the fantasy of global order that fed such silliness as a Nobel Peace Prize for Barack Obama — have now been exposed as bitter illusions. Still, as we’re frequently reminded by those of an isolationist bent, it’s very unlikely that Russia, Iran, or even China would choose to take us on directly. They remind us that we have the world’s most powerful military, that our economy, supported by our vast resources, can flourish while the rest of the world goes to Hell, and that we remain insulated by two great oceans from the worst the world can bring. We don’t need friends or allies, we certainly don’t need them badly enough to put ourselves out on their behalf — besides, in one way or the other, they’re all undeserving or too weak and inconsequential to offer us anything in return. We are the “strong man” of the parable, and there is no one strong enough to subdue us and carry away all that we hold dear. (READ MORE: Trump-Style Candidates Rising in Europe) Except — and this is the message of “Intifada at the White House” — the U.S. is no longer the strong man we thought it was. Sure, we still have the best ballistic missile submarines, we can swat away — albeit expensively — barrages of Houthi missiles, and our special forces operators can, if required, “fetch the devil from Hell itself,” or, at the very least, take him out with a drone strike. All well and good, but what do such powers avail us when, as a nation, we’ve lost the will to stand up for ourselves? We lost our way a long time ago, as we allowed the hate-America crowd to take control of our institutions. For generations, it has been fashionable among our intellectuals and urban elites to mock the “deplorables,” those who cling to “their guns and their religion.” Believing in the good qualities of our nation and upholding the good that we’ve done at home and in the world has become a subject of mockery. It’s commonplace in our entertainment today that the archetypical American heroes of an earlier generation are scrutinized for their faults, and that present-day villainy only resides with those at the bottom of the intersectional ladder. We no longer connect with the heroes of our past, nor do we understand how to recognize true heroism in the present. And we’ve lost the moral compass that might enable us to resist those who would do us harm. We’ve watched for months as pro-Hamas demonstrators blocked our bridges, filled our streets, and occupied our campuses. Our authorities have offered, at best, a weak-kneed and weasel-worded response. Worse, instead of protecting our house and all that lies within, as the strong man of the parable would do, we’ve simply thrown open the doors and windows and invited the world’s miscreants to come in and ransack the place. I know — there are surely many fine people flooding into the country, mothers with babies, hard-working family men, or refugees from brutal oppression. But when the doors and windows are flung wide open, as they have been by the Biden administration, then those who would destroy us have been given the run of our “house.” This certainly includes drug dealers, human traffickers, and all manner of young men who’ve brought the brutalities of their homelands to the streets of ours. But it also includes, unquestionably, terrorists of all stripes and the agents of all of our enemies. I wrote of this back in November, and again, more than once, in the months since. (READ MORE: November Is Coming and Biden Has Another Border Plan) So as we read the news coverage, good and bad, of the anti-Semitic mobs screaming their hatred through our nation’s capital, let’s step back for a moment and ponder how it came to this. Let’s reflect on the parable of the strong man, and ask ourselves what it might take to regain control of our house once again. Now, before it’s too late — the clock is ticking. James H. A Russian submarine and a Russian frigate that are both capable of nuking U.S. cities were both spotted traveling approximately 25 miles from the coast of Florida, but most of the U.S. population did not receive the message that the Russians were trying to send.  By sending these warships along the coast of Florida, the Russians are warning that they will use nuclear weapons if they are pushed too far, but hardly anyone seems to care.  The mainstream media insists that these vessels are “no threat” and that there is no risk that a full-blown nuclear conflict will erupt any time soon.  But while our experts are assuring us that everything will be just fine, the Russians are feverishly preparing for a worst case scenario. In recent days, a flotilla of four Russian war vessels has been practicing “the use of high precision weapons in the Atlantic ocean”… Russian warships are practising the use of high precision weapons in the Atlantic ocean, Russia’s defence ministry said on Tuesday, putting the US on alert. Vladimir Putin’s most modern frigate Admiral Gorshkov, a hypersonic missile carrier, is accompanying nuclear submarine Kazan and two other naval vessels. The drills involve hitting targets from a distance of more than 370 miles, Russia’s defence ministry said in a statement, and follow an exercise in anti-aircraft fire. All four vessels are set to arrive in Havana on Wednesday and will pass 25 miles from the coast of the United States on their journey, according to reports. On their way to Havana, they were expected to get quite close to the coast of Florida, and that is precisely what happened on Tuesday… Three Russian Navy ships and a nuclear-powered submarine seem to be passing the Florida coast Tuesday, June 11, on the way to Cuba for a military exercise, according to open-source intelligence analysts on social media. A tweet on X, formerly known as Twitter, said that the US Coast Guard Cutter Stone may be shadowing the Russian flotilla off the east coast of Florida abeam of Cape Canaveral. On Wednesday, June 5, a U.S. official told the media that Russia planned to conduct naval exercises with combat vessels in the Caribbean region. The United States did not see the expected arrival of the flotilla to the Western Hemisphere to be threatening, but the official told Reuters the U.S. Navy will monitor the exercises. The officials spoke on the condition of anonymity to provide details that had not been made public yet. The Kazan and the Admiral Gorshkov are both capable of carrying nuclear weapons, and they are both considered to be “key vessels in Putin’s nuclear strike force”… Despite this, both the Admiral Gorshkov and the Kazan are normally key vessels in Putin’s nuclear strike force. Russia has not stated what firepower is being carried by his flotilla. Of course the Russians do not intend to attack us at this time. And Cuban authorities are openly telling us that even though they are capable of doing so, “none of the vessels is carrying nuclear weapons”… Kazan and three other Russian naval vessels – missile frigate Admiral Gorshkov, fleet replenishment tanker Pashin and a salvage tug Nikolai Chiker – will dock in the Cuban capital from June 12 to 17, Cuba’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in two statements on Jun. 6, 2024. “None of the vessels is carrying nuclear weapons, so their stopover in our country does not represent a threat to the region,” it added. But everyone agrees that having these vessels travel so close to the coast of Florida was about sending us a message. We are being told that the Admiral Gorshkov is armed with highly advanced hypersonic missiles that have a range of over 1,000 kilometers… The Admiral Gorshkov is armed with new Zircon hypersonic missiles. The weapon has been designed to arm Russian cruisers, frigates and submarines and could be used against both enemy ships and ground targets. Russian President Vladimir Putin has touted Zircon as a potent weapon capable of penetrating any existing anti-missile defenses by flying nine times faster than the speed of sound at a range of more than 1,000 kilometers (over 620 miles). Even though the Admiral Gorshkov is not carrying nukes at the moment, Zircon hypersonic missiles are capable of delivering nuclear payloads. If Zircon hypersonic missiles are launched from a Russian warship positioned just off the east coast, they would start hitting targets inside the U.S. in just a matter of moments. And we would have no way to defend against that. CBS News is also telling us that the Russians are about to conduct a military exercise in the Caribbean that will involve “Russian long-range bombers flying along the U.S. East Coast”… The announcement came a day after U.S. officials said that Washington had been tracking Russian warships and aircraft that were expected to arrive in the Caribbean for a military exercise. They said the exercise would be part of a broader Russian response to the U.S. support for Ukraine. Those exercises will likely include Russian long-range bombers flying along the U.S. East Coast, according to CBS News national security correspondent David Martin. The Russians are clearly trying to get our attention. They are telling us that we are pushing things in Ukraine too far. Just this week, it was being reported that a Ukrainian warplane has hit targets inside Russian territory for the first time… A Ukrainian warplane has for the first time fired a weapon that struck a target inside Russia, a Ukrainian military source has told Sky News. The source said a “Russian command node” was hit on Sunday in the area of Belgorod, western Russia. Belgorod is close to the border with northeastern Ukraine. If the Ukrainians decide to get really bold and start hitting Moscow with long-range weapons provided by western powers, there is no telling what the Russians might do. I strongly recommend that we try to find a peaceful way out of this mess while we still can. Meanwhile, the head of US Indo-Pacific Command is warning that he intends to create a “hellscape” for the Chinese if they pull the trigger on an invasion of Taiwan… The US military is planning to create a “hellscape” of drones in the Taiwan Strait if China moves to attack Taiwan, the top US military commander in the region has told The Washington Post. Adm. Samuel Paparo, the head of US Indo-Pacific Command, told Post columnist Josh Rogin that the idea would be to send thousands of drones, unmanned submarines, and drone boats into the Strait to buy time for the US and Taiwan to prepare a defense of the island. “I want to turn the Taiwan Strait into an unmanned hellscape using a number of classified capabilities,” Paparo said. “So that I can make their lives utterly miserable for a month, which buys me the time for the rest of everything.” A decade ago, talk of a major war between the U.S. and China was considered to be nonsense. But now we are almost there. In the Middle East, exchanges of fire between the IDF and Hezbollah have “grown from daily to almost hourly”… The mountain villages and rolling valleys along Israel’s border with Lebanon already feel like a war zone. The booms of intercepted rockets and drones regularly shake the air. Plumes of smoke rise from hillside explosions as firefighters race to keep blazes from engulfing residential neighborhoods. The pace of Hezbollah and Israeli strikes has grown from daily to almost hourly, according to the civilians, local officials and soldiers who remain in the area. “Each week it’s becoming more frequent and more intense,” said Liron, the deputy commander of an army squad that was crowded into a shelter during an air raid alert Thursday. He spoke on the condition that he be identified by his first name because he was not authorized to talk to the media. It is just a matter of time before the Middle East erupts in flames. There are 60,000 Israelis that cannot return to their homes in northern Israel until the threat that Hezbollah poses is neutralized, and one recent survey discovered that the Israeli people are overwhelmingly in favor of a military campaign against Hezbollah… U.S. negotiators are trying to head off an escalation, but Israel is under growing domestic pressure to halt the Hezbollah launches and allow more than 60,000 displaced civilians to return to their homes after eight months of living in hotels and shelters around the country. A poll Friday by the Hebrew-language daily Maariv found that 62 percent of Israelis support the idea of a decisive attack on Hezbollah. There is just one problem. The moment that the IDF goes into southern Lebanon, it will mean all-out war with Hezbollah and thousands of highly advanced missiles will start raining down on Israeli cities. Israel could easily handle Hamas. Hezbollah is another matter entirely. The three wars that I have discussed in this article are the exact same three wars that I have been warning my readers about for years. War in the Middle East is here, war with Russia is here, and war with China is rapidly approaching. But the vast majority of the population is still sleeping, and most of them won’t understand what is happening until it is too late.
