RFK Jr. inches toward joining debate with Trump and Biden with Minnesota success

Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced he submitted the required signatures to put him on Minnesota’s ballot and surpass eligibility for 270 electoral votes, pushing him another step closer to qualifying for June’s presidential debate.  A press release from the campaign confirmed Kennedy submitted 3,300 signatures in Minnesota. Kennedy now claims ballot access in 19 states with 278 electoral votes. Half of the states where he has...

GameStop stock plummets as ‘Roaring Kitty’ rambles on live stream

The influential investor’s widely anticipated live stream started 25 minutes late, with pounding drums and pictures of cats. Suddenly the music gave way to a high-pitched drone as Keith Gill, the stock trader known as “Roaring Kitty,” appeared on camera. Wearing sunglasses and bandages — he never explained why, other than to say they were just for show — he cracked open a beer and spoke to hundreds of thousands of viewers who tuned in for investing advice — and instead got a rambling...

Hunter Biden's daughter gives surprise testimony at trial

The daughter of Hunter Biden has told jurors that her father seemed "great" and "hopeful" around the time he purchased a gun in October 2018. Naomi Biden, 30, gave surprise testimony in court in her father's gun trial after she was called to the witness stand by his defence team. She said she did not see her father use drugs at any point in 2018, and that he was living with a sober coach late that year. The US president’s son is accused of lying about his drug use on a form when...

Major lithium discovery in fracking wastewater leaves the left facing EV 'irony'

The discovery of the potential for thousands of tons of lithium to be extracted annually from wastewater generated by fracking in the Marcellus Shale leaves proponents of a green energy future at a crossroads, Republicans said Thursday. A University of Pittsburgh study suggested processing byproducts from natural gas production in Pennsylvania's Marcellus Shale basin could potentially meet nearly half of U.S. lithium needs. The typical electric vehicle (EV) requires nearly 18...

FDA expected to propose a label change to packaged foods: Nutrition info on the front

The Food and Drug Administration is expected to propose a change to prepackaged food sold in America: a requirement that the front of the packages display key nutrient information in addition to the nutrition label that’s already on the back. The concept, designed to quickly convey health ramifications to busy consumers about the food and beverages they are considering purchasing, is not novel: Worldwide, dozens of countries already have front-of-package nutrition labels that come in various...

MSNBC's Jong-Fast: Only 'Low-Information Voters' Would Consider Hunter Conviction

You'd have to be some sort of hick from the sticks to take a Hunter Biden criminal conviction into account in deciding on your 2024 presidential vote. That was Molly Jong-Fast's gist on today's Way Too Early, the Morning Joe pregame show. When host Jonathan Lemire asked the MSNBC political analyst whether there could be a negative political impact for Joe Biden stemming from a Hunter conviction, she suggested only hayseeds who can't make fine moral distinctions could be...

Old Age

It’s sad but it’s true. I’m old. I am 79. I have pains at least somewhere every day. Young drunk people complain to my fabulous driver, Bob Noah, that “your old man is blocking traffic.” That was just a few months ago in Sandpoint. I am fearful of being old and homeless. Yes, I still have a beautiful wife. I still am a celebrity. I have a comfortable home in the flats of Beverly Hills. But I am scared. I am scared of the relentless power of old age. It’s on my mind night and day. What passes through my mind are some words from the greatest essayist in the English language: Samuel Johnson. Mr. Johnson said, about 300 years ago, that when in fear we old people should have on hand: An old dog. An old wife. And ready money. Truer now for Ben Stein than it ever has been.
