On Thursday, the GOP-led House passed a bill that pressures the Biden administration not to withhold arms from Israel as the U.S. ally fights Iran-backed Hamas following a deadly terrorist attack in October of last year. The “Israel Security Assistance Support Act,” which President Joe Biden has threatened to veto, received support from 224 lawmakers. A total of 187 members, including three Republicans and 184 Democrats, voted against the bill. Nineteen lawmakers did not vote. House Democrat leaders had urged members of their caucus to oppose the legislation, but that did not stop 16 Democrats from breaking ranks and joining the 208 Republicans to advance it to the Senate. “The Biden Administration’s decision to withhold weapons is catastrophic and goes directly against the will of Congress,” House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) said in a statement. “With the passage of the Israel Security Assistance Support Act, we send a clear message of solidarity and support to Israel and demand the urgent delivery of defense weapons to our most important ally in the Middle East.” A group of House Republicans unveiled the bill over the weekend after Biden halted the delivery of 3,500 large bombs to Israel in protest of a full-scale ground operation in the southern Gaza city of Rafah. Biden has since moved forward with sending other arms to Israel. The bill pushes for the “expeditious delivery of defense articles and defense services for Israel and other matters.” It also seeks to withhold funds from the Secretary of Defense, Secretary of State, and National Security Council until delivery is confirmed. Other provisions are geared toward condemning the Biden administration’s decisions to pause certain arms transfers to Israel, reaffirming “Israel’s right to self-defense,” and requiring a report on actions taken to withhold security assistance from Israel. The White House issued a statement of administrative policy on Tuesday that warned Biden would veto the bill if it reaches his desk, claiming it would “undermine the President’s ability to execute an effective foreign policy.” That veto threat was enough for Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) to say during a press conference the bill was “not going anywhere.” It is not immediately clear whether the legislation will even get a vote in the Senate. In his statement, Johnson said, “The President’s threat to veto this legislation and Leader Schumer’s refusal to bring it to a vote in the Senate are acts of betrayal to our closest ally in the region.” He added, “What’s more alarming is the 184 House Democrats that joined them in siding with the radical, pro-Hamas wing of the Democratic party. Security assistance to Israel is an urgent priority that must not be delayed.”

The foreign-born population in the United States surged to a new high of 51.6 million and has grown rapidly under Democrat President Joe Biden, largely because of illegal immigration, a recent study found. The study from the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) revealed that the foreign-born population in the United States hit a new high of 51.6 million in March 2024, marking an astonishing increase of 5.1 million since March 2022, the largest two-year increase in all of American history. “Since President Biden took office in January 2021 the foreign-born population has increased by 6.6 million in just 39 months,” the CIS report found. “We have previously estimated that nearly 58 percent of the increase under President Biden is due to illegal immigration.” The foreign-born population increase under Biden is larger than the estimated individual populations of 37 of the 50 individual states, including Wisconsin, Colorado, and Missouri. The CIS report went on to discuss the current trajectory of the foreign-born population, noting that “if present trends continue, the foreign-born population will reach 62.5 million in 2030 and 82.2 million by 2040 — larger than the current combined populations of 30 states plus the District of Columbia.” While many politicians and organizations have advocated for mass immigration by arguing that new arrivals will join the job market, the CIS report found that “only 46 percent of the foreign-born who arrived in 2022 or later were employed in the first part of 2024,” and only eight percent of those who are not working say that they are actively looking for work. Public figures like Elon Musk have accused the Democratic Party of encouraging and allowing mass immigration as a tactic to build political power, in part by taking advantage of the congressional district apportionment process. Legal permanent residents support the Democrats over the Republicans by a margin of 49 to 8 percent, while 54 percent of foreign-born U.S. citizens support the Democrats, as opposed to only 11 percent who support the Republicans. The spike in the foreign-born population under President Joe Biden comes as the United States has faced an unprecedented border crisis with over 9.5 million nationwide encounters and 1.7 million estimated illegal immigrant gotaway recorded under his term. Biden now faces widespread disapproval among voters for his handling of the border crisis, and a recent poll found that Americans trust former President Donald Trump more than the Democrat incumbent to handle immigration. Other polls have found that Americans are in favor of Trump’s plan to deport illegal immigrants.

At least two people who worked for former President Donald Trump — either on the campaign trail or in the White House — said Thursday that they believe ex-Trump attorney Michael Cohen lied on the stand. Both Bryan Lanza and Alyssa Farah Griffin said that Cohen, who has spent the last two days testifying against Trump in his Manhattan hush-money trial, had likely lied under oath when he told the court that he had not wanted to work in the Trump White House. Lanza, former deputy communications director for the Trump-Pence campaign, told CNN’s Jake Tapper that he had direct knowledge of Cohen’s desire to land a White House gig. “[A]t least to me, Michael Cohen was pretty adamant that he wanted to be White House counsel. He said everything he was doing was to be White House counsel, he’s always injected himself with the space that I was in, which was the TV space, because Trump cared a lot about it. Just so, I always viewed that he’s always positioning, and he was pretty clear that he wanted to be White House counsel,” he said, joking that he did not want to be called to testify. Griffin joined Tapper for a later segment, and said that while she had not personally witnessed Cohen saying he wanted to work in the White House, it was something of an open secret. “I was working for a number of Republican lawmakers at that time, several of whom would go into the administration, including Mick Mulvaney as OMB director, and it was widely known and believed. Now, Michael Cohen never told me firsthand, ‘I’m going into the White House, I want to.’ But it was widely discussed that he was angling for Attorney General or to be White House counsel.
