A man who ambushed a couple walking in Queens, New York, on Wednesday afternoon got a surprise: his intended victims responded by beating him up and stabbing him several times. Surveillance video showed a man, who used a medical scooter due to an apparent foot injury, strolling alongside a woman holding a puppy when the 37-year-old attacker approached them from behind, threw his coat on the ground, and jumped on the man on the scooter. But according to The New York Post, the man on the scooter hurled his attacker to the ground and started punching him as the woman joined him. The would-be attacker attempted to get free but the couple kept hitting him. The three people finally separated, but kept shouting at each other. The initial assailant could be seen in the video with a wound on his head. Bystanders intervened, and the attacker was taken to Elmhurst Hospital. The NYPD said he had multiple stab wounds but was in stable condition. “No arrests have been made in the case, but sources said cops are looking for two perpetrators,” the Post reported. Another stabbing occurred in Queens on Wednesday. A 15-year-old boy was stabbed in the head by someone wearing a ski mask after the boy left August Martin High School. The assailant crept up from behind and stabbed the boy in his head and shoulder. The boy was taken to Cohen Children’s Medical Center by EMTs. He was listed in stable condition. Two students knifed each other in Hell’s Kitchen at a building that houses the Business of Sports School, the Stephen T. Mather Building Arts of Craftsmanship High School, the Urban Assembly Gateway School For Technology and the Success Academy Charter School – Midtown West Middle School; a student was knifed in a gang-related attack at the Evander Childs Educational Campus in the Bronx; and another stabbing happened at the Queens High School of Teaching, Liberal Arts and the Sciences.

The giant pharmaceutical company Pfizer is ready to pay between $200-250 million as a result of over 10,000 U.S. lawsuits involving supposed cancer risks associated with the drug Zantac, which it sold between 1998 and 2006, sources told the Financial Times. Zantac was approved in 1983, becoming the world’s largest-selling medicine by 1988. But in 2019, after a Connecticut lab heated ranitidine, the active ingredient in Zantac, and found “extremely high levels” of NDMA, a probable human carcinogen, the Food and Drug Administration asked for Zantac and its generic equivalents to be pulled off the market in April 2020. “The agency has determined that the impurity in some ranitidine products increases over time and when stored at higher than room temperatures and may result in consumer exposure to unacceptable levels of this impurity,” the FDA wrote. “As a result of this immediate market withdrawal request, ranitidine products will not be available for new or existing prescriptions or OTC use in the U.S.” “Low levels of NDMA are commonly ingested in the diet, for example NDMA is present in foods and in water,” the FDA continued. “These low levels would not be expected to lead to an increase in the risk of cancer. However, sustained higher levels of exposure may increase the risk of cancer in humans. … New FDA testing and evaluation prompted by information from third-party laboratories confirmed that NDMA levels increase in ranitidine even under normal storage conditions, and NDMA has been found to increase significantly in samples stored at higher temperatures, including temperatures the product may be exposed to during distribution and handling by consumers. The testing also showed that the older a ranitidine product is, or the longer the length of time since it was manufactured, the greater the level of NDMA. These conditions may raise the level of NDMA in the ranitidine product above the acceptable daily intake limit.” CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP “The settlement — which was disclosed in a court filing in Delaware last week — is aimed at significantly reducing Pfizer’s potential liability,” Financial Times noted, adding that Pfizer stated, “The company is confident that its Zantac products, which were reviewed and approved by the [US Food and Drug Administration], did not cause cancer when used as directed.” “GSK, which first received approval for Zantac in 1983 and is most exposed to the litigation, has already settled a handful of cases in courts in California. It disputes that the drug caused cancer,” Financial Times reported.

President Joe Biden has asserted executive privilege over audio recordings from special counsel Robert Hur‘s investigation into Biden’s handling of classified documents that further raised questions about the commander-in-chief’s mental acuity as he runs for a second term. The decision was conveyed to House leaders on Thursday in the hours before a pair of GOP-led committees were expected to move forward with contempt of Congress proceedings against Attorney General Merrick Garland for refusing to fully comply with subpoenas from February that demanded tapes of Hur’s two-day interview with Biden and of the special counsel’s interview with Biden’s ghostwriter, Mark Zwonitzer. “It is the longstanding position of the executive branch held by administrations of both parties that an official who asserts the President’s claim of executive privilege cannot be prosecuted for criminal contempt of Congress,” Assistant Attorney General Carlos Uriarte wrote in a letter. House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY) and Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) received the letter ahead of their panels’ scheduled meetings on Thursday to initiate contempt of Congress proceedings against Garland over the audio. The sought-after materials “are necessary to determine whether sufficient grounds exist to draft” articles of impeachment against Biden, said a recent House Judiciary report. Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), the top Democrat on the Oversight Committee, said in a statement reported by The Washington Post that Republicans are “trying to blame Attorney General Merrick Garland for their own protracted comedy of errors,” adding, “it’s delightfully absurd to suggest that listening to the President’s words instead of just reading them will suddenly reveal” an impeachable crime. In his letter, Uriarte stressed the committees “ought not proceed with contempt and should instead avoid unnecessary and unwarranted conflict” as Biden had “asserted executive privilege over the requested audio recordings and is making a protective assertion of privilege over any remaining materials responsive to the subpoenas that have not already been produced.” His letter also said, “We have repeatedly made clear that disclosure of the subpoenaed audio recordings would damage future law enforcement efforts and that the Committee’s continued demands raise serious separation of powers concerns.” Uriarte additionally noted “substantial efforts” to accommodate the demands from Comer and Jordan, including providing transcripts of the interviews and correspondence regarding Hur’s report. Edward Siskel, counsel to the president, also reportedly sent a letter to House Republicans. “The absence of a legitimate need for the audio recordings lays bare your likely goal — to chop them up, distort them, and use them for partisan political purposes,” Siskel wrote. “Demanding such sensitive and constitutionally-protected law enforcement materials from the Executive Branch because you want to manipulate them for potential political gain is inappropriate.” CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP The report from special counsel Hur’s team was released in February after roughly a year of investigation. It criticized Biden’s retention of classified records while out of office, describing Biden as a “sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory” whom a jury likely would not convict “of a serious felony that requires a mental state of willfulness.” Prosecutors ultimately declined to recommend charges against the president. Hur also found that Zwonitzer deleted recordings of conversations he had with Biden upon learning about the documents inquiry. But the ghostwriter provided “plausible, innocent reasons” for his actions during the interview and Hur’s team said they ultimately determined the evidence would not suffice for a conviction on obstruction of justice, according to the special counsel report. Biden and the White House have pushed back against Hur’s characterizations in his report, but Garland insisted that it would have been “absurd” for someone in his position to have edited or censored the special counsel’s explanation.
