Apple’s first smart display needs to make the smart home just work

Some Apple Home users have shoehorned iPads into wall-mounted home controllers. However, reports indicate Apple is developing a dedicated home control device. | Photo By Carlos Avila Gonzalez / The San Francisco Chronicle via Getty Images The smart home has an interface problem. Searching for an app on your phone, fighting with a confused voice assistant, and fiddling with a “smart” display to turn off a light is enough to send anyone running back to the wall switch. But now, Apple is taking a crack at solving the frustrations of smart home control — and it has the opportunity to actually make the smart home work. Next year, the company will reportedly launch an “AI wall tablet for home control,” and it’s said to be developing more devices for the home (including cameras, a tabletop robot, and maybe even a TV). Among other features, such as video calling, this new wall tablet will reportedly be a hub for Apple’s home automation platform, Apple Home, providing a communal... Continue reading…

Best Pokemon games to play on your iPhone

The Nintendo Switch has a great collection of Pokemon games. But it's not the only home of pocket monster games. With your iPhone, you can also try to catch 'em all in unique ways. This is why we gathered the best Pokemon games you can play on your iPhone today – and the greatest thing about it is that they're all free to play. Pokemon UNITE: The first MOBA of the franchise takes players in 5x5 battles in ranked, standard, and quick matches. There are a dozen monsters to choose from. You can give them holowear clothes and a makeover of your character with unique fashion. Download it here. Pokemon TCG Pocket: Released a few weeks ago, this app brings one of the best Pokemon TCG experiences to the iPhone. It's easy to play, features beautiful cards, and you can come back to play more every day. Download it here. Pokemon Sleep: You can catch Pokemon even while you are asleep. With this game, you can track your sleep while playing minigames throughout the day to help you gather sleep companions. The best part about this Pokemon app for iPhone is that it finally offers Apple Watch compatibility. Download it here. Image source: Niantic Pokemon GO: The 2016 epic game that brought back the Pokémania is still up and running. With over 800 monsters available to be caught, users can engage in Pokémon battles on their iPhones and use AR capabilities to pet these creatures while exploring the real world. Click here to download it. Pokemon Masters EX: This spin-off game brings new lore to the Pokémon series right into your iPhone screen. In the distant Pasio Island, you learn more about the franchise's beloved characters in 3x3 battles on your path to becoming the best. Download it here. Pokemon Café Mix: Have you ever imagined owning a Café with your Eevee pal? In this puzzle game, similar to the Disney Tsum Tsum mobile experience, where a player connects icons to advanced missions, you need to create new foods and drinks to lure more creatures to your Café and make it the most popular place. Download it here. Pokemon TCG Online: If you like the OG experience, Pokemon TCG Online offers a vast number of cards and features to enjoy the TCG experience everywhere you go. Download it here. There are more Pokemon games to play on your iPhone Image source: The Pokémon Company International While the Pokemon games above are still up and running, other options have been discontinued but are still fun to play, such as: Pokemon Magikarp Jump: Make your Magikarp jump out of the water as far as it can to become a Magikarp Master. Download it here. Pokemon Quest: In a square world, players can explore an island in a team with three Pokémon. You can build a base and lure more monsters to help you while facing opponents in real-time battles. The game is still very popular in Asia, with updates arriving now and then. Unfortunately, the West audience only has a small portion of the game. Download it here. Pokemon Shuffle Mobile: Launched in 2015, this Candy Crush-like game has hundreds of levels to battle. It is a freemium format, and the last update was in 2018 when the Mythical Pokémon Marshadow was introduced. It doesn't seem the game will get an update in the future, but it's still playable. Download it here. Don't Miss: Apple just opened up the App Store to retro game emulators The post Best Pokemon games to play on your iPhone appeared first on BGR. Podcast: History Fuzz: Episode 07: Professor Brian S. Bauer: Island of the Sun and the Inca ceque system

In this episode, Dr. Brian S. Bauer, a Full Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Illinois at Chicago, takes us on a journey through his archaeological investigations of ancient South American landscapes. Specializing in archaeological and ethnohistorical methods, Dr. Bauer draws on decades of fieldwork to reveal how astronomy, architecture, and mythology were intricately woven into the spiritual life of the Inca. His research emphasizes the importance of understanding indigenous knowledge systems and how these systems were encoded in the physical landscape through complex alignments and sacred structures. Figure 01: Episode graphic. Courtesy of the author. Dr. Bauer begins by recounting his fieldwork at Lake Titicaca, where he investigated the Island of the Sun—an important ceremonial site for the Inca and earlier cultures. He describes the discovery of a remarkable solstice alignment, framed by two large stone pillars, which marked the rising and setting of the sun during key points of the solar year. This alignment, as Dr. Bauer explains, was more than a timekeeping device. It functioned as a ritual focal point, bringing together astronomy, mythology, and state ceremonies that reaffirmed the Inca’s divine connection to the cosmos. The careful placement of these pillars speaks to the precision and intentionality with which the Inca integrated natural features into their ceremonial architecture, reinforcing their cosmological worldview. This Day In Mostly-Peaceful History: President Kennedy Goes Scenic Ride through Dallas

On this day in 1963, the nation collectively held its breath as President John F. Kennedy embarked on what would later be fondly remembered as his scenic open-air ride through Dallas. In an unprecedented move, Kennedy ditched the conventional limousine for a more exhilarating mode of transportation – one that left citizens and historians alike in awe of his commitment to public engagement. The decision to go for a leisurely drive through Dealey Plaza with the convertible top down was, according to unnamed sources, inspired by Kennedy’s love for fresh air and a newfound passion for the art of surprise appearances. “It was the perfect opportunity to connect with the people, and President Kennedy was all about grassroots engagement,” suggested an optimistic insider. As the motorcade navigated the streets of Dallas, crowds gathered to catch a glimpse of the charismatic president, waving flags and homemade signs expressing their appreciation for the impromptu parade. Little did they know that they were witnessing a historic chapter in the book of Mostly-Peaceful History. A White House spokesperson, who may or may not have been keeping a straight face, declared, “President Kennedy wanted to break free from the confines of traditional presidential transport. It was a bold move, an open invitation for citizens to join him in the great American pastime of sightseeing.” While some critics questioned the wisdom of exposing the President to the unpredictable elements of a public appearance, others marveled at Kennedy’s innovative approach to presidential outreach. “Who needs armored vehicles and security details when you have the open road and the warm embrace of a nation?” pondered a nostalgic political commentator. In an unforeseen twist, Kennedy’s drive through Dallas was cut short by a series of unexpected fireworks – or as some eyewitnesses described them, “backfiring party poppers.” The celebration took an unexpected turn, leaving historians to debate whether the event was truly Mostly-Peaceful or merely an explosive display of civic enthusiasm. As we reflect on “This Day In Mostly-Peaceful History,” let us remember President Kennedy’s daring venture into the heart of Dallas, a day that will forever be etched in the annals of unconventional presidential escapades. NOTE: CNN has confirmed that this was a 100% mostly-peaceful assassination of a sitting president of the United States and that the CIA didn’t have anything to do with it.
