If you’ve been following the story of Thailand’s adorable baby pygmy hippo, Moo Deng, then you’ll probably also fall in love with Haggis! This precious creature was recently born in captivity at Edinburgh Zoo. Much like the internet’s favorite pygmy hippo calf, Haggis has been receiving a lot of attention. ITV News shared the sweetest video of the tiny animal on social media. In the clip, journalist Juliet Dunlop visited Edinburgh Zoo to meet the adorable calf in person. At the time, she was enjoying her daily bath, courtesy of her caregivers. Her species is dwindling in the wild, so her birth in captivity was quite significant for conservationists attempting to save these creatures from extinction! Obviously, you cannot be a baby pygmy hippo in 2024 without being compared to Moo Deng. However, Haggis has another thing in common with the sassy little internet sensation. Both of them are named after foods from the countries where they were born! Smithsonian Magazine tells us that Moo Deng means “bouncy pork,” and haggis is Scotland’s national dish. Will there be a rivalry between Haggis and Moo Deng? In the video from ITV News, Juliet Dunlop had a very important question for caregivers. In their opinion, does Haggis the pygmy hippo have what it takes to rival Moo Deng’s fame? They replied that, with her personality, she could very well pose a threat to the other animal’s crown! Facebook One commenter on the post, however, wasn’t interested in pitting these two adorable critters against each other. “Not rivals!!!” they wrote. “Just besties!!” We couldn’t agree more.
