The mayor of Newport Beach, California, blasted California lawmakers after a boat of illegal aliens arrived in his town and were apprehended by the Coast Guard. The boat of 21 illegal aliens, including one Russian, two Uzbeks, and 18 Mexicans, was apprehended roughly a mile off the coast of the Orange County city late last week. “When you have people from Uzbekistan of all places coming in through the southern border, something is broken,” Newport Beach Mayor Will O’Neill said in an interview. “We are told that our local authorities are prohibited from working with federal authorities to stop people like this.” He specifically cited Senate Bill 54, which prevents state and local resources or personnel from being used to assist federal immigration enforcement efforts. Roughly 20 suspected migrants were caught on camera arriving at Newport Harbor before scattering in the spring of this year. One resident expressed her concern following the attempted illegal entry, indicating that she’s worried about the toll that illegal immigration takes on public, taxpayer-funded services. The incident is part of a broader trend of illegal alien smugglers entering the United States by boat. Maritime smuggling operations are also notoriously dangerous. The Department of Justice recently convicted one Dominican human smuggler after he attempted to bring 48 migrants to the United States illegally by boat before it capsized, killing  11.

A growing number of Americans think it should be illegal for children to undergo transgender surgeries or similar medical interventions, a new poll shows. Nearly three-quarters of Americans say they want it to be against the law to provide children with puberty blockers, other drugs, or surgery to help them “transition from one gender to another,” according to a new survey from Napolitan News Service. That’s 10% higher than the 62% who said so in August, according to the poll. The spike in opposition to these procedures comes after a tumultuous presidential election where the issue frequently reared its head. President-elect Donald Trump’s most successful campaign ad noted that Vice President Kamala Harris previously expressed support for taxpayer-funded surgeries for incarcerated illegal migrants. “Kamala Harris is for they/them. Donald Trump is for you,” the ad’s narrator said. Three-fourths of Americans think biological males who identify as women should not be allowed to use the women’s locker rooms, showers, and bathrooms, the poll found. Just under 60% also said that if biological men who identify as women are allowed to use women’s shelters for sexual assault and domestic violence, it will create more risk and trauma for the women who use these shelters. Nearly 70% said lessons about exploring or changing gender identity should not be taught in public schools. Of those who said these lessons should be taught, 13% said they should be taught in early elementary school. And 73% of Americans said that teachers and schools should be required to notify parents if a student wants to change his or her gender, name, and pronouns. The poll was conducted by pollster Scott Rasmussen on Wednesday, about a week after Election Day, and surveyed 1,000 registered voters. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.1 percentage points. Both puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones come with serious health risks. Puberty blockers can affect bone growth and density and cause sexual dysfunction, voice damage, and infertility, among other issues. Cross-sex hormones, which can be estrogen or testosterone, can cause infertility, deadly blood clots, heart attacks, increased cancer risks of the breasts and ovaries, liver dysfunction, worsening psychological illness, and other serious conditions. Genital surgeries or double mastectomies to remove the breasts of healthy girls who want to appear more masculine are also irreversible. At least 25 states have passed restrictions on transgender surgeries and hormone treatments for minors. England and several other European countries, including Finland and Sweden, have also pumped the brakes on transgender medical interventions for children.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) ordered law enforcement officials in his state to target and arrest criminals who were carrying out influence operations at the behest of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) or the Chinese government. Abbott issued the executive order to protect Texans from coordinated harassment and coercion campaigns from China that are aimed at Chinese dissidents and seek to force them to return to China. “The Chinese Communist Party has engaged in a worldwide harassment campaign against Chinese dissidents in attempts to forcibly return them to China,” he said. “Texas will not tolerate the harassment or coercion of the more than 250,000 individuals of Chinese descent who legally call Texas home by the Chinese Communist Party or its heinous proxies.” “Ensuring the safety, welfare, and well-being of Texans is a top priority,” he continued. “I directed the Texas Department of Public Safety to identify and bring criminal charges against individuals who harass Texans on behalf of this hostile foreign adversary. We will continue to do everything we can to protect Texans from the unlawful and repressive actions of the Chinese Communist Party.” Abbott ordered the Texas Department of Safety to work with federal law enforcement to identify and charge individuals working for foreign governments who are suspected of being involved in crimes targeting dissidents. The order also initiates the creation of policy recommendations from officials on how to counter threats posed by foreign harassment campaigns. Abbott also ordered the creation of a new hotline to report suspected acts of repression or coercion by foreign actors. Ensuring the safety, welfare, & well-being of Texans is a top priority.
