FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ’S):
Why is it called a “Bubble Up”? Because the biscuits “bubble up” in the dessert as this bakes. I believe Pillsbury coined the term to make these types of biscuit recipes sound a bit more fun by giving it a catchy name. Is the brown sugar necessary? The brown sugar obviously makes this a darker color but it really adds to the gooeyness of the dessert. If you don’t want it to have that brown tint‚ you can use all white sugar. Can I make this without the glaze? Of course you can. The glaze is a nice added touch‚ but this dessert would be plenty sweet without it. What other toppings can I use? Try topping this bubble up with a scoop of ice cream‚ whipped cream‚ or powdered sugar. If you use those toppings‚ I wouldn’t add the glaze. Can I make other flavors? Certainly! I have tons of other Bubble Up dessert recipes on my site (along with a few savory ones too!)– Cherry Pie Bubble Up– Apple Pie Bubble Up– Cinnamon Roll Bubble Up– Pecan Pie Bubble Up– Blueberry Bubble Up– Peach Dumpling Bubble Up Why is my dessert getting too brown on top? First‚ remember this does have brown sugar in it so it will naturally be more brown (as I stated above‚ you can use white sugar if you prefer.) Also‚ this dessert does bake for a longer time than other bubble ups because of all the filling ingredients being on the liquid-y side. I didn’t have to‚ but if you find it is browning too much‚ you can top with foil while you finish baking it. Can I use other pie fillings? Sure can! This is a great base recipe to work from. I have tons and tons of other Bubble Up recipes you can check out that use different types of pie fillings. How to store leftover Strawberry Pie Bubble Up? Keeps in the fridge for up to 5 days or you can freeze it for up to 3 months. How to reheat this? This bubble up is best served when warm. To reheat‚ do so in the oven covered with foil or in the microwave without foil.
INGREDIENTS NEEDED: (SEE RECIPE CARD BELOW FOR THE FULL RECIPE)
strawberry pie filling – you could use a low or no sugar option. In addition‚ this recipe works with any pie filling flavor.
light brown sugar – or white granulated sugar.
salted butter – you can use unsalted butter if that is all you have. If you want (not necessary though) you could add 1/4 teaspoon of salt to the mixture.
vanilla extract – if you want to really amp up the strawberry flavor you could use a strawberry extract.
Homestyle Pillsbury Grands biscuits– you can use a different style like the flakey biscuits‚ but I prefer the presentation you get from the Homestyle ones. You are going to need 10 biscuits total no matter which biscuits you choose to use.
powdered sugar and milk – this is for the glaze on top. It is not absolutely necessary for this dessert to taste great so this is optional.
HOW TO MAKE STRAWBERRY BUBBLE UPÂ
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Spray a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray and set aside. In a large bowl‚ stir together the strawberry pie filling‚ brown sugar‚ melted butter‚ and vanilla until smooth. Cut the biscuits into 8ths and add to the bowl. Gently fold the biscuits in so everything is coated.
Place the mixture into the prepared baking dish in an even layer. Bake for 45-50 minutes until golden brown on top‚ the biscuits are cooked through‚ and it’s bubbly. Place on the counter to cool slightly as you make the glaze.
In a small bowl‚ whisk together the powdered sugar and milk until smooth. Pour evenly all over the bubble up.
Then serve!
