Some teachers are reportedly pressuring the National Education Association — the largest labor union in the United States — to withdraw its endorsement of President Joe Biden if he continues to send aid to Israel and fails to demand an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. Commit to demanding that Israel complies with international law and universal principles of human rights‚ including ending the occupation and dismantling of the illegal apartheid wall‚ equal rights for all Palestinians‚ and the right of return for Palestinian refugees‚ as called for by Palestinian civil society. According to The Nation’s report‚ teachers like Illinois social studies teacher Rahaf Othman‚ who told the outlet that her “nightmares” began when Israel began to execute military strikes against Hamas in Gaza in October. Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy challenged Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre directly during Wednesday’s daily briefing‚ asking whether President Joe Biden’s recent comments amounted to joking about election denial. Not because Michigan isn’t a fantastic job or that there’s anything wrong with Ann Arbor‚ but because he’s already at a place where‚ believe it or not (at least in my opinion)‚ it’s easier to establish dominance than at Michigan. Brian Kelly left Notre Dame‚ which is an established brand in college football‚ to go down to Baton Rouge. He saw what Bama looked like in the tunnel before they got run over in the National Championship when he was the head coach of the Fighting Irish. He wanted to be able to recruit and sign the best of the best‚ a true even playing field. Louisiana is a state filled with talent every year to the brim from the top to the bottom‚ from the east to the west. And LSU is the only power in that state. There is no Sparty and nobody’s spurning LSU to go to Louisiana Tech. (Sorry guys.) But Kelly has already found success there‚ and he’s building a monster in a place where the biggest monsters roam. He’s compiled an elite staff around him‚ and he just had the Heisman winner. Why would you leave Baton Rouge where you have all of this momentum to go follow the greatest season ever in Michigan history? There’s nowhere to go but down. Michigan’s going to remain relevant regardless of what Harbaugh does‚ but the best chance to win bigger for longer is at LSU. Some will say the SEC is the toughest conference in the country. That is true‚ but the Big Ten just added Oregon‚ Washington‚ USC‚ and UCLA. It’s not getting any easier‚ and there’s no division‚ which will create more division. Ryan Day is trying to put the new Justice League together at Ohio State through the transfer portal‚ and Brian Kelly has already shown that he can succeed in the SEC. He won the West in year one and the emperor Nick Saban just left Tuscaloosa.  The fact of the matter is you can’t make work-place decisions based purely on emotion and fandom. And though Kelly’s accent may be fake‚ his chance to dominate is not. While some may believe the smoke if Harbaugh does leave to go to the Chargers or the Falcons‚ it smells like a Jimmy Sexton special to me‚ which is always a good play. Harbaugh hasn’t gone anywhere yet‚ but we keep hearing that for Brian Kelly‚ it’s a dream job. Michigan is an incredible place. They just won the National Championship. Nobody’s saying that Michigan is a bad job. But when LSU gets hot‚ they can get hotter than just about anyone. For Brian Kelly‚ he’s already there. He’s already established. He’s gotten the hard part out of the way. He won early‚ he won the West. Yes‚ he lost to Georgia in the SEC Championship game‚ but he beat Alabama’s Nick Saban. Then in year two‚ his defense got run through like a finish line‚ but he had the Heisman winner. He has an elite staff‚ he’s recruited really well‚ and it seems like a pretty good fit. It’s not because I view LSU as that much better of a job than Michigan. I see them both as the top six or seven jobs in the country. I do find a couple of things interesting though. First‚ Brian Kelly is the winningest coach in Notre Dame history. He left and gave that up to go to LSU for a lot of the reasons we always talk about; you can put a fence around that state and the high school recruiting is better there in that state. Also‚ from a historical and traditional perspective‚ Notre Dame and Michigan are very similar. So I think it’s interesting Brian Kelly had to watch Michigan go undefeated and win the National Championship. That is what Jim Harbaugh was able to do at a very similar Midwestern school that Kelly was not able to accomplish while he was at Notre Dame. Then‚ two of the last three coaches at LSU have been rumored to be leaving LSU. The Les Miles thing was a caveat‚ and I think it’s a completely different situation. Ultimately‚ we still don’t even know if Jim Harbaugh is going to leave. Harbaugh may remain at Michigan — even though the news could break any minute that he’s going to be the next coach of the Chargers. So we’ll have to see. But from my perspective‚ Kelly has gotten the hard part out of the way. He already built the foundation at his new place‚ he took the risk which paid off early‚ he won the SEC West‚ and he just landed the number one quarterback in the 2025 class. The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) urged a counterterrorism agency to open investigations into Daily Wire host Matt Walsh and other conservative commentators‚ alleging that the commentators are “escalating harassment of LGBTQ+ individuals‚” according to emails obtained by The Daily Signal. The group‚ which was founded to combat anti-Semitism but has morphed into an organization more broadly focused on combatting “extremism and hate‚” stated in the email to a Washington State unified counterterrorism unit that “growing online anti-LGBTQ+ bigotry puts LGBTQ+ individuals at greater risk of physical violence and harassment.” The ADL goes on to list not only Walsh‚ but also the Manhattan Institute’s Christopher Rufo and Libs of TikTok creator Chaya Raichik‚ among others‚ as “perpetrators of online hate‚” and urges law enforcement to take action. “ADL is advocating for government partners to strengthen laws against perpetrators of online hate‚ as well as consulting with law enforcement partners to act on online hate speech that incites violence and/or credible threats‚” the group said‚ according to the report. The email appears to be rooted in a collaboration with the Gay And Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation‚ more commonly known as GLAAD‚ in which the two groups would work together to “alert law enforcement and community organizations to threats targeting LGBTQ+ individuals and institutions.” The counterterrorism unit‚ the Washington State Fusion Center‚ told The Daily Signal that no action was taken against Walsh or any of the other individuals. “We do not investigate anyone or anything ‘at the direction of the Anti-Defamation League‚’” Christopher Loftis told The Daily Signal. “We receive tips from a variety of sources and interested parties and we follow each to its logical conclusion to assess if any possible public safety threat actually exists.” Walsh says he views the attempt to mobilize law enforcement against him as “a very serious threat‚” and called it “an explicit attempt to use state force to shut down opposing speech at gunpoint.” “I’m not surprised that the enemies of free speech and common sense are using this tactic but I do find it deeply concerning‚” Walsh told The Daily Signal. “Democrats (and the ADL is just an activist arm of the Democrat Party of course) clearly want to use force to shut down speech that threatens their narrative‚” Walsh said. “We’ve been moving in that direction for some time. I expect that if Biden wins re-election we will start to see‚ in the next year or two‚ outspoken conservatives getting fined and arrested on the grounds of ‘hate speech‚’ etc.” The Heritage Foundation‚ which is the parent organization of The Daily Signal‚ said that groups like the ADL are “a key driver of government weaponization.” “They provide the phony predication and intellectual cover in order to point the people with guns at their enemies‚” said Mike Howell‚ the director of the conservative think-tank’s Oversight Project. “Our investigative work continues to expose examples of these groups driving government action.” As I say in the article‚ I have no doubt that if Biden wins another term we will actually see prominent conservative commentators arrested on hate crime and terrorism charges. Only real question is which of us do they hit first and try to make an example of. — Matt Walsh (@MattWalshBlog) January 24‚ 2024 Walsh‚ who drew the ire of Left-wing groups such as the ADL with his popular “What Is A Woman?” documentary film‚ is described by the ADL as “one of the biggest purveyors of erroneous and harmful narratives surrounding gender-affirming care for transgender and non-binary youth.” The ADL’s transformation away from an anti-Semitism-focused organization is pegged by many to its elevation in 2015 of Jonathan Greenblatt‚ a partisan Democrat who has worked to broaden its focus. Greenblatt‚ who worked for both President Bill Clinton and Barack Obama‚ has turned the organization into a partisan group. In 2018‚ for example‚ he used the ADL to fight the Supreme Court nomination of Brett Kavanaugh‚ on grounds that had nothing to do with anti-Semitism or even broad hate.

Oregon Democrats are moving to undo part of the state’s drug decriminalization law that has plummeted in popularity since it went into effect. Democrats on the state legislature’s addiction committee announced Tuesday that they will introduce a new bill to bring back misdemeanor criminal penalties for possessing small amounts of drugs. In 2020‚ Oregon voters approved Measure 110‚ which scrapped criminal charges for possessing small amounts of any drug‚ even hard drugs like fentanyl. Instead‚ offenders are hit with a maximum fine of $100 that is rarely enforced. Drug users can also get their fine dismissed if they call a hotline to get an addiction screening‚ but in the law’s first year‚ only 1% of people who received tickets for drug possession called the hotline‚ according to state auditors. About 58% of Oregon voters approved the drug decriminalization law‚ the first of its kind in the country. In the years since Measure 110 took effect‚ however‚ the law has become increasingly unpopular as residents deal with public drug use in their daily lives. Two years later‚ more than 6 in 10 voters said they thought decriminalization has made drug addiction‚ homelessness‚ and crime worse in Oregon‚ according to a May survey from DMH Research. A combined 63% said they “strongly” supported or would be “somewhat” interested in once again criminalizing hard drugs. Meanwhile‚ fatal drug overdoses in Oregon have spiked. Oregon had more than 1‚700 drug overdose deaths during the year that ended in August‚ according to estimates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The number is a 38% increase from the more than 1‚200 deaths the state saw in the previous 12 months. The new bill Democrats plan to introduce would make using drugs in certain public places like parks a low-level misdemeanor punishable by up to 30 days in jail or a $1‚250 fine or both. However‚ drug users can avoid charges if they complete a behavioral health screening and meet with a caseworker. The bill would also let police confiscate a user’s drugs and establish stronger sentences for dealing drugs in certain places such as near parks or homeless shelters. It would also increase access to treatment‚ housing‚ and insurance. As recently as November‚ Lieber was saying it would be a “mistake” to overturn Measure 110‚ saying such a move would “make us go backwards.” In September‚ the Portland City Council passed a ban on using hard drugs on public property‚ a sign of how fed up the city is with rampant open-air drug use polluting its streets. However‚ that ordinance cannot go into effect unless the state reverses its decriminalization law.
