House Democrat Proposes $14 Trillion Reparations Plan for Black Americans

There's a reason it's against the law to give credit cards to children. They don't understand where money comes from‚ how credit works‚ or what happens when you spend money you do not have. But even children would probably be more fiscally responsible than some Democratic lawmakers. New York Democratic...

Is Superstition Ever Okay for Christians? – Senior Living – January 23

Is Superstition Ever Okay for Christians? Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives' tales; rather train yourself to be godly. – 1 Timothy 4:7 For centuries‚ well-educated and literate people thought it to be of the utmost importance to get out of bed on the right side. The thought was that to get out of bed on the left side provided easy access for evil spirits. And to this day‚ people will still ask those who seem to be having a bad day if they "got out on the wrong side of the bed." There's nothing in the Bible about the left side of the bed providing access for evil spirits. It's simply a superstition‚ a belief that really has no basis in fact‚ yet has been regarded as truth for many people. If you've ever knocked on wood to keep something you say from materializing or made a wish before you blew out your birthday candles‚ you've participated in practices that are rooted in superstition. But does that make those things inherently wrong? The answer to that question is a subjective one... What does it really mean to you? If you see these practices as nothing more than fun and don't assign spiritual power to them‚ then there's probably nothing wrong with what you're doing. But if you truly believe you can manipulate the unseen world through practices like these‚ you may be treading into unbiblical superstition. The ultimate question is this: Where do you seek spiritual power? Instead of finding power in the material world‚ find it in Christ alone – not unbiblical myths! Prayer Challenge Pray that God would reveal areas where you're trusting in superstition rather than in Christ for spiritual power. Questions for Thought What attitude do you think is at the core of the human tendency toward superstition? How are you tempted when it comes to assigning spiritual power to worldly things rather than focusing on the death of Christ? A Prayer for Co-Laboring with God – Your Daily Prayer – January 23

A Prayer for Co-Laboring with GodBy Laura Bailey "I planted‚ Apollos watered‚ but God gave the growth. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything‚ but only God who gives the growth." – 1 Corinthians 3:6-7 ESV A few months ago‚ my middle daughter accepted Christ‚ it was a day we'd prayed for since her birth‚ and my husband and I were beyond excited. We attend church regularly‚ pray‚ read the Bible as a family‚ and have numerous godly influences. I wasn't surprised when Abigail‚ my daughter‚ began asking questions about accepting Christ a few months earlier.  It started with a question on the way to school about what a person should pray to receive salvation. Then it was multiple questions before bedtime‚ with the final pronouncement that " Yes! I want to accept Jesus‚" was exclaimed at the dinner table.  Afterward‚ my husband and I prayed with her‚ listening as she admitted her sin‚ asked for forgiveness‚ and announced that she desired to be saved and for Christ to rule her life. We invited our pastor to come over and speak with her in preparation for baptism in the following weeks. When our pastor left‚ he looked at my husband and said‚ " It is obvious you have spoken numerous times about the gospel‚ she knows it‚ and I'm confident she is a new sister in Christ!"  Walking back inside‚ trying to hide my annoyance‚ my husband asked what was wrong. I knew it shouldn't have mattered that our pastor was just talking in general‚ with no slight to me‚ but I couldn't help but feel resentful that he didn't acknowledge my role in helping lead my daughter to Christ. After all‚ I spent hours at home reading Bible stories‚ playing Sunday School‚ singing hymns‚ talking about God in the car‚ and constantly reminding my girls of God's grace and mercy in our lives. As soon as the words left my lips‚ I wanted to snatch them from the air and toss them in the trash where they belonged.  The truth was that while yes‚ my husband‚ our church‚ and family members all played a part in encouraging Abigail to accept Christ‚ it was only by God's grace that she received the gift of salvation. While I could share the gospel with my daughter‚ I couldn't open her heart to receive the message‚ nor could I save her; God is responsible for the heart change resulting in her salvation. While we can't save others‚ God‚ in His graciousness‚ invites us to be co-laborers with him in the process! In our key verse‚ the church at Corinth was arguing about which leader they followed in the church. In 1 Corinthians 3:6-10‚ Paul reminded the church that rather than following people‚ we are called to follow God; he is the only One worthy of our worship. Paul and Apollos were both called to minister to the Corinthians‚ God assigned them tasks that differed based on their abilities‚ but the responsibility to share the gospel remained the same. Paul‚ Apollos‚ and other leaders in the church were equal in that they worked together to share and spread the message of salvation. Lest the leaders of the church fall prey to thinking their roles are more significant than others; Paul was quick to point out that only God gives salvation and spiritual growth. As believers‚ we all have kingdom assignments that require planting the seeds of salvation in the lives of others. But let’s also humbly remember who we serve. God‚ alone‚ deserves the glory when a sinner repents and accepts Christ. Just as the Lord graciously worked in my daughter’s heart‚ He still works in mine. I responded to the twinge of conviction for my attitude and thanked God for allowing me to co-labor with Him. May we all work together to plant spiritual seeds‚ encourage other believers as they water‚ and pray that God will provide growth in the lives of the unbeliever. Let's Pray: Heavenly Father‚ thank you for loving us so much that you made way for us to have eternal life through the sacrifice of your Son on the cross. Forgive us when we pridefully boast about our own ability instead of always giving you honor and glory. We pray for those who don't know you as Lord and Savior. May we joyfully serve to share the gospel and help lead others to Christ. In Jesus' Name‚ Amen. World’s First Nationwide Malaria Vaccine Program Launches

Cameroon‚ a Central African country‚ launched the world’s first nationwide malaria vaccine program. “Cameroon today launched the RTS‚S malaria vaccine into its routine national immunization services‚ becoming the first country to do so outside the malaria vaccine pilot programme that was carried out in Ghana‚ Kenya and Malawi. The introduction comes as efforts gather pace to scale up vaccination against the disease in high risk areas in Africa‚” the World Health Organization announced. The launch comes after Cameroon received 331 200 doses of the vaccine in November 2023. More doses are expected in coming weeks. “The vaccine is an additional tool for malaria control. It has been chosen by the country based on its pre-qualification‚ ensuring guaranteed quality‚ efficacy and safety for inclusion in the vaccination programme‚” said Dr Shalom Ndoula‚ Permanent Secretary of the Expanded Programme on Immunization in Cameroon. “It will specifically target all children aged six months as of 31 December 2023.” In preparation for the launch‚ World Health Organization (WHO) and other partners including GAVI‚ the Vaccine Alliance‚ UNICEF‚ Africa Centre for Disease Control and Prevention‚ and the Clinton Health Access Initiative supported the national health authorities to strengthen key vaccine introduction measures. For an effective vaccine introduction‚ it is essential that countries put in place comprehensive preparations that include adopting the national vaccination policy and guidelines‚ integrating the new vaccine into the delivery schedule of other vaccines and health interventions‚ developing an operational roll out plan‚ training of healthcare workers‚ investing in infrastructure‚ technical capacity‚ vaccine storage‚ community engagement and demand generation‚ and ensuring formative supervision‚ monitoring and evaluation of the process to ensure quality vaccine delivery. “The launch of the malaria vaccine marks a significant step in the prevention and control of the disease‚ especially in protecting children against severe disease and death‚” said Dr Phanuel Habimana‚ WHO Representative in Cameroon. “We’re committed to supporting the national health authorities to ensure an effective rollout of the malaria vaccine together with scale up of other malaria control measures.” “Cameroon has become the first country to introduce the RTS‚S malaria vaccine into its routine immunisation programme. With 20 countries across Africa set to introduce the vaccine this year alone‚ this marks a historic boost to the global fight against malaria‚” Gavi‚ the Vaccine Alliance wrote. WATCH: From CIDRAP: In advance of today’s launch‚ the country began receiving doses of RTS‚S‚ a vaccine developed by GSK that has been in the making for more than 30 years‚ in November. The vaccine was part of a pilot program in a handful of other African countries‚ but is now poised for a broader rollout across that continent‚ which bears the world’s biggest burden‚ especially its children. The country’s malaria vaccine program‚ with a four-dose schedule‚ targets all children who were 6 months or older on December 31‚ 2023. The WHO published footage of the first baby to receive the shot. It's official! Cameroon has now introduced the RTS‚S malaria vaccine into its expanded vaccination programme‚ following a 4-dose schedule. Baby Daniella is the first baby to be vaccinated!#VaccinesWork pic.twitter.com/GIYhS8lpBw — WHO African Region (@WHOAFRO) January 22‚ 2024 However‚ 100 Percent Fed Up noted that not all researchers agree the RTS‚S malaria vaccine is ‘safe and effective.’ WHO Recommends New Malaria Vaccine From our prior report: In a paper published in The Lancet Infectious Diseases‚ a team of researchers warned about the dangers of the RTS‚S malaria vaccine. The researchers concluded that the findings in the malaria vaccine implementation programme (MVIP) “do not rule out the possibility of increased mortality among vaccinated girls compared with vaccinated boys‚ as observed in the phase 3 studies.” “Three significant safety signals were identified‚ related to meningitis‚ cerebral malaria‚ and female-specific all-cause mortality‚” the researchers noted. The researchers concluded that the “claimed impact of the MVIP on mortality is not based on enough scientific evidence.” The vaccine’s impact on severe malaria was estimated to be around 30%. The paper’s final conclusions stated: We have made several recommendations for the way forward (panel). Populations affected by malaria and their policy makers have waited for a vaccine for about half a century. The enthusiasm greeting the WHO recommendation of RTS‚S is understandable. Unfortu-nately‚ the available data suggest that this vaccine‚ like some other non-live vaccines‚16‚ 17 might increase all-cause mortality in girls to the extent that its deployment could lead to a net increase in deaths of girls among the recipients.
