Music streaming platforms must pay artists more‚ says EU

The European Parliament has made its case — now‚ it’s up to the European Commission to decide whether to initiate legislation proceedings. | Image: The Verge The EU has proposed sweeping changes within the music streaming industry to promote smaller artists and make sure underpaid performers are being fairly compensated. A resolution to address concerns regarding inadequate streaming royalties for artists and biased recommendation algorithms was adopted by members of the European Parliament (MEPs) on Wednesday‚ highlighting that no existing EU rules currently apply to music streaming services‚ despite being the most popular way to consume audio. The proposition was made to ensure European musical works are accessible and avoid being overshadowed by the “overwhelming amount” of content being continually added to streaming platforms like Spotify. Apple unveils Apple Watch Black Unity Sport Band and wallpapers that launch next week

Today‚ Apple announced a new Black Unity Collection with a new Apple Watch band and wallpapers to celebrate black resilience. The company says this collection is inspired by "the resilience and beauty of the Black community‚" with Blooming flowers and vibrant colors representing Pan-Africanism‚ and symbolizing generations working together to address injustice and dismantling systemic barriers. The Apple Watch Black Unity Sport Band features an arrangement of flowers molded abstractly across the band utilizing red‚ green‚ and yellow colors. Inspired by the rich cultural diversity of Black communities around the world‚ Apple used a layering process for the flowers to create tiny variations in each band’s design‚ ensuring no two bands are exactly alike. The band's pin is coated with a durable diamond-like carbon finish that features an etching of the words “Truth‚ Power‚ Solidarity” alongside one of four symbolic flower emblems‚ the company states. The Unity Bloom Apple Watch face showcases a beautiful floral design that "signifies a lasting commitment to the pursuit of a more equitable world." Users can choose between a full-bloom or single-bloom arrangement‚ and when they raise their wrists‚ the flowers begin to bloom and fill with vibrant hues. iPhone and iPad users can also show their support with the new Unity Bloom wallpaper for their Lock Screen‚ which presents an outline of flowers that fill with color when the display is active. Image source: Apple Inc. Apple says the new Black Unity Sport Band can be purchased at the online store starting today‚ although it will only become available in Apple Store locations beginning January 23 for $49. The Unity Bloom watch face will be available next week and requires Apple Watch Series 4 or later running watchOS 10.3. The new Unity Bloom iPhone and iPad wallpaper for the Lock Screen will also be available next week and requires iPhone Xs or later running iOS 17.3 and iPad (6th generation and later)‚ iPad mini (5th generation and later)‚ iPad Air (3rd generation and later)‚ 12.9-inch iPad Pro (2nd generation and later)‚ 10.5-inch iPad Pro‚ and 11-inch iPad Pro (1st generation and later) running iPadOS 17.3. Apple boosts trade-in prices for Samsung Galaxy phones ahead of S24 release

Now and then‚ Apple adjusts the trade-in value for its products as credits for new purchases at the Apple Store. This time‚ Apple lowered trade-in prices for some iPhone‚ Apple Watch‚ and Mac models but offered more money in return for offering your old Galaxy S22. Interestingly‚ this change comes as Samsung unveils the new S24 lineup with an AI focus in a Unpacked event in San Francisco. The new prices were spotted by MacRumors‚ and you can see the highlights below. The last time Apple changed trade-in prices was in November when it improved old Apple Watch and iPad values. Prior to that‚ in June‚ the company increased old iPhone prices as well before the iPhone 15 announcement. How to charge your iPhone as fast as possible

One of the most controversial topics when talking about the iPhone is related to charging and battery life. Even with a former Apple employee giving life-saving iPhone battery tips‚ you can always do more. That said‚ BGR has put together a comprehensive guide to help you charge your iPhone as fast as possible without degrading your battery too fast. The process is more straightforward than you might imagine‚ but there are a few tips and tricks to make the most of it. How to charge your iPhone quickly without ruining your battery Image source: José Adorno for BGR Newer iPhones charge at 20W maximum‚ so you don't need to use a Mac's 96W plug or any fancy GaN charger that could give enough juice to your car‚ iPad‚ Mac‚ and phone simultaneously. For example‚ Apple's own 20W charger solution is perfect for that. More recently‚ BGR published a test about several different USB cables' lifespan‚ with Apple's USB to Lightning being more resistant than the ones from Belkin‚ Anker‚ and Samsung‚ which means you don't need to overthink‚ going all win with Apple already ensures you can hit the fastest charge possible on your device. That said‚ it doesn't mean you can't use Samsung's charger with a Belkin USB-C to USB-C cable. Of course‚ you can‚ but you don't need to worry that much if you already have Apple's accessories. Now that you know that Apple's 20W charger and its USB-C to USB-C cable are fully capable of charging your iPhone 15 at maximum speed‚ there are other tips and tricks to make sure you'll get the fastest charge possible. Tips and tricks to make your iPhone charge faster Image source: Satechi Now that you have the proper plug and the right cable‚ you can do a little more to ensure your device charges as fast as it can. Follow these tips: Turn on Low Power Mode: Since the iPhone consumes energy even if it's charging‚ putting on hold background activity‚ ProMotion‚ and other technologies will help improve the charging speeds; Close your apps: With no apps opened‚ they won't require more power from your iPhone; Check for the right temperature: If it's too hot or too cold‚ your iPhone might not charge properly. That said‚ never put your iPhone with the sun on it while charging or avoid freezing temperatures as well. Don't use your phone while charging: It might be difficult‚ but try to do another activity when charging your phone. Go read a book‚ walk in the park‚ or watch some TV. Turn on Airplane Mode and turn off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth: If you want to quickly charge your iPhone‚ turning off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth while turning on Airplane Mode will help charge your iPhone as fast as it can. Wrap up With these tips and tricks‚ it's easier to charge your iPhone as fast as possible. Also‚ don't forget that your phone will charge 50% in 30 minutes‚ but to get full power‚ you might also need to follow these little tricks.
