Top 10 Big Wreck Songs

Big Wreck is a Canadian-American rock band formed in 1992 by Ian Thornley and Brian Doherty while they were students at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. Alongside David Henning on bass and Forrest Williams on drums, the group initially began as a casual project called Still Waters. However, after realizing their potential and ambition as a cohesive unit, they decided to rebrand, eventually settling on the name Big Wreck. This marked the beginning of a journey that would see them blend progressive rock, alternative, and Southern rock into a unique sound that captured attention on both The post Top 10 Big Wreck Songs appeared first on ClassicRockHistory.com.

Long-Term Survival Lessons from a Disaster Zone

Author of How to Prep When You’re Broke and Bloom Where You’re Planted online course The folks of the Appalachians in Western North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee are still suffering a month after Hurricane Helene tore through the area and wiped parts of the area right off the map. At least 7300 homes were still without power as of Tuesday, and that’s just the homes that remain standing. The water in Asheville, though some of it is restored, is not safe to drink still, and a swath of the population in the mountains is still living without fresh running water. Hundreds of roads are still impassible, many bridges will be out for the foreseeable future, and life in the region is far from “normal.” In fact, it’s a disaster zone. And it’s extremely widespread. It’s not like this was one little town that you can easily leave and stay someplace nearby. It was a large area and with the extensive road damage, leaving isn’t that simple. It got me thinking about what supplies would be best to help a family through an event like that – and this is assuming your house remained standing. Keep in mind that if your home has been washed away or buried in mud from landslides, it wouldn’t matter how many supplies you had put back, because your home and everything in it is gone. I’m not trying to play Monday morning quarterback here. It’s essential to recognize that there was absolutely no way anyone could have prepared for an unprecedented event that destroyed every single building in some small towns. But I think there are things we can learn from the aftermath that could help us to be better prepared for such a life-altering disaster. Shelter If your home is carried away, and your roads are washed out, and you’ve managed to keep everyone alive, that’s a major accomplishment. The next step is to continue to keep them alive. Hopefully, you will still have access to some camping gear or tarps, but if not, you’ll need to be adept at using what is present to build yourself a shelter. A book like this can be very helpful to learn how to make yourself a viable shelter. But note that the book probably floated away with the rest of your belongings. That’s why you must get out there and practice this stuff long before the disaster occurs. You can’t depend on having written instructions at a time like this – you need to master the skills to do this ahead of time. Water and Sanitation Water has been an issue for people whether their homes remained standing or not. First of all, thousands of homes still don’t have running water. If you have a well pump that runs on electricity, that water is staying underground unless you have another way to access it. If you’re fortunate, you’ll have a manual hand pump to get the water out of the well. However, this doesn’t mean that the water is safe to drink. You may need to boil it or filter it before drinking, even if it’s coming from your taps. Your well may need to be shocked to make sure it’s safe to drink. If you are getting it from an outdoor source, I’m a big fan of using a multiple-level method of purifying water at times like this: filter to get any chunks out, boil, and then treat with Aquatabs. You simply cannot be too safe when it comes to water.  One of the primary ways that people die in the aftermath of a long-running disaster is from waterborne illness. I also recommend a way to test your water. A kit like this can detect all manner of impurities and bacteria. The problem is, in the disaster zone, most of the water is not just unsafe. It’s absolutely toxic, and there’s no way to purify it. People are having to find a way to bring water in to have safe water to drink. There’s no telling how long it will be before the water is pure again. The only way around this is stored water, and lots of it. And again, that assumes your home has remained standing and unflooded. You’ll also need a way to go to the bathroom when the toilets aren’t flushing. If you live out in the boondocks, it’s a lot easier to go outside for these necessities. You can’t do your business too near your water source, and being able to bury it is probably the best way to handle it. You will need a way to remain sanitary, which might be personal wipes and bleach wipes, hand sanitizer, and cautious strategies.  After changing diapers, going to the bathroom, and before preparing food, you absolutely must make sure your hands are clean to help prevent illness. The mud there is also toxic and making people ill. It’s something many of us haven’t considered previously. It’s ever-present, filling homes with muck and outside where there used to be roads. A way to take a shower could not only be pleasant – it could be lifesaving. Power Another major issue being faced is the lack of power. Thousands of homes don’t have electricity yet. There are many options for generators. A whole house generator is great if you have the fuel to run it. But I think a lot of folks would be happy just to have a little bit of power for charging phones and communication equipment, and maybe running a light at night. I have this solar generator, which has provided great service for me in the years that I’ve owned it. I haven’t had a single issue with it. The battery, once charged, is long-lasting, and the solar panels recharge it back up in about a day. I’ve also used and enjoyed the Jackery, but the equivalent is quite a bit more expensive than the Oupes. Communications We have seldom witnessed the importance of communications as much as this disaster. Many people have been stranded at their homes for the better part of a month due to roads and bridges being out. They can’t call 911. They can’t let their families know that they’re okay. Cell service is down, there’s no internet and there are very few ways to learn what’s happening in the world outside their area. One thing that has sprouted up is the ham radio network “Project Helene.”  It’s an incredibly important service that gives briefings and information at a specific time each day and are helping people communicate their needs and let their families know that they are alive. If you don’t have a ham radio set up, this may be enough to convince you that you need one. (Learn more about emergency communications here.) Look into building your own ham system but note that you WILL need some source of power. Another way that folks are communicating is with Starlink. Elon Musk has been very generous in donating terminals, satellite phones, and expanding access in the area. You might be interested in your own Starlink set-up before the next disaster strikes. Keep in mind that you will need a way to power the receiver – one of the solar generators above would be ideal. Food The importance of emergency food has never been more obvious than in this disaster. With flood damage and an inability to cook, I think canned goods are probably the most useful at this point in time. Why? You can eat it without cooking it (or even without warming it) The can will protect the contents from water. The contents won’t be contaminated by nasty stuff flood water. (Though you need to carefully clean the can before opening it.) At this point, I doubt folks are being excessively picky, but things like tuna, canned pasta meals, canned fruits and vegetables, and canned beans would be excellent to have on hand. You’re not in this for gourmet meals or perfectly balanced diets. You’re in it to survive. Some people are cooking with campfires in the yard, while others use propane barbecues or cookers. If your home is still standing and you have a gas stove, then you’re ahead of the game. This isn’t a comprehensive list. It would take an entire book to create a comprehensive survival guide for this level of crisis. These are five of the things that have been deeply affected in the Appalachian disaster and they’re also pretty essential. I can’t overstate the importance of skills at times like this. Knowing how to create shelters, purify water, snare animals for meat, and cook over an open fire are things that are vital to your survival. We also need to remember that it took FEMA more than a week to arrive. Most people couldn’t reach 911, and even if they could, it was difficult, if not impossible, for first responders to access them. Help is not coming from the government. Most of the rescue efforts and aid efforts have been undertaken by neighbors and members of the communities. Hardworking Americans have come from far and wide to help out. Their efforts have been nothing short of incredible. But with so many tax dollars going to FEMA, it’s a disgrace that this is what it has come down to. The agency has really shown itself to be unnecessary. What other challenges have you observed? What other suggestions do you have for preparing for this level of long-term disaster? Do you have ideas that weren’t mentioned here? Do you think the federal government has done a good job? Let’s discuss it in the comments section. Danny Sheehan: Aliens Abduct Humans and Create Hybrid Monsters

During a talk at Yale’s New Paradigm Institute, attorney Danny Sheehan claimed that extraterrestrial beings have been abducting humans over the past 75 years to harvest reproductive material. Sheehan, known for bringing UFO whistleblowers before Congress, has recently made a series of provocative statements about alleged extraterrestrial encounters and government cover-ups. Among his claims are knowledge of alien bases on Earth and video evidence showing hundreds of UFOs entering and exiting a site deep beneath the ocean floor. Now, he asserts that these beings are abducting humans for deeply unsettling purposes, reports dailystar.co.uk. During a talk for the New Paradigm Institute at Yale University in the United States he said: “Members of these species have been abducting human beings over the past 75 year period. “They actually appear over people’s homes in the night, take people into custody involuntarily, remove egg cells from females and sperm cells from males and take the 24 chromosome egg and sperm cells and combine them with the 24 chromosomes of their ET genetic material. “Then they re-implant them in the uterus of the human women and allow the zygote to evolve for the full trimester – they then abduct these human women again … and these zygotes are removed and they are no longer pregnant. “These hybrid children are being brought to full term by the ET people, involving short greys and tall greys, and the ‘mantis people’. This is what the United States intelligence agency know what’s going on and they’re not telling you about … they are concealing this information.” Danny is a Harvard College, Harvard Law School, and Harvard Divinity School–trained constitutional litigation and appellate attorney. For over five decades, his work as a federal civil rights attorney, author, public speaker, and college and law school professor has helped expose the structural sources of injustice in US. There is no October surprise

It’s 11 days until the election, and the Democrats have tried it all. You can’t mark them down for effort, but you can certainly deduct for originality. As from the Hollywood liberals now running the party, all we’re getting are sequels and reboots. I suppose they didn’t have many options. Democrats from top to bottom already tried to put former President Donald Trump in prison and settled for two of his deputies. They’ve worked to destroy his businesses and bankrupt him. They’ve accused him of ridiculous crimes and used those as a pretense to comb through the Grand Old Party’s comms and secret files like the Watergate investigation on steroids. They denied his requests for more security and watched as he came within millimeters of losing his life to an assassin’s bullet. They said he worked for Vladimir Putin. They impeached him twice and accused him of treason. They called him a Nazi and a Klansman and an insurrectionist and accused him of killing thousands with COVID. There’s a little secret about the final two weeks of any national race: While news events can happen and help shape and form narratives, no new secrets about the candidates emerge. So ... what did that leave them? As it turns out, nothing but wasted effort. First, Jeffrey Goldberg delivered his latest piece on Donald Trump, claiming Trump secretly despised the troops and envied Adolf Hitler, wishing he had generals like his. Then, the left-wing British Guardian reported that Trump was secretly tied to Jeffrey Epstein’s abuse. Everything reported across both pieces was single-sourced. Goldberg’s take on Trump’s disrespect for the troops was quickly debunked by the family of the murdered soldier (over Goldberg’s limp-wristed protestation). Then the way he portrayed heated denials was exposed as inaccurate and misleading. Finally, multiple on-the-record sources in the know slammed the Hitler bit as preposterous. The Epstein story had reportedly been shopped around for weeks or even months, but no one bit because it seemed far-fetched even in an age of pee tapes and Russian collusion. When they finally landed it — eight years after Donald Trump first rose to power and in the final weeks of his third run as the Republican nominee — it was in a foreign paper with an ideological mission. Not exactly a grand slam. Here’s a little secret about the final two weeks of any national race: While news events can happen and help shape and form narratives, no new secrets about the candidates emerge. At least none that are true. Staffers and consultants and opposition researchers know people are unlikely to take their claims so seriously in the final weeks. They want reporters, pundits, and voters to work over their claims and litigate them in public, not dismiss them as the latest from Tricky Dick or Slick Willie. Moreover, those stories that do come out have been shopped around to reporters for weeks and sometimes months. They’ve been taken on a test run and returned defective. The packaging is disheveled, and the instructions are missing. More consequential reporters than the one who eventually takes the story have already decided they were unverifiable, inconsequential, or deceptive; sometimes all three. This time: all three. No matter. The Democrats are running with it. Vice President Kamala Harris called Trump “Hitler” five times during Wednesday’s CNN interview. And maybe that’s the play. Get those Democratic voters who helped carry 2020 and held the line in '22 to remember that Donald Trump is literally Adolf Hitler and convince them all they need to do to stop it is vote for Kamala. “Surprise.” Blaze News: Dems panic as Republicans bank record-breaking early votes in key states Sign up for Bedford’s newsletter Sign up to get Blaze Media senior politics editor Christopher Bedford's newsletter. IN OTHER NEWS Harris’ support among Latino voters is hitting new lows, and it may cost her the election By Rebeka Zeljko Less than two weeks from the presidential election, Republicans are breaking turnout records for early voting and mail-in ballots across several key states. In previous election cycles, Democrats have overwhelmingly outperformed Republicans when it comes to voting early. In 2020, over 22 million Democrats voted early, while just 15 million Republicans and nearly 12 million independents did the same. Early voting was notably higher in 2020 due to the pandemic, but the trend remains true for previous election cycles. In 2016, just 8 million Republicans voted in advance, as well as nearly 10 million Democrats and 5 million independents. This time around, Republicans are narrowing the gap. With over 26 million early votes counted, 11 million have been from Democrats, over 10 million have been from Republicans, and nearly 5 million have been from independents. Historically, the Republican Party has been averse to the idea of early voting. This time around, Trump has made the change to embrace it, and Democrats are beginning to panic. “A few more days like this, though, and the Democratic bedwetting will reach epic proportions,” Jon Ralston, CEO of the Nevada Independent, told The Hill about early voting in Clark County, home of Las Vegas. “I think it comes solely down to the fact that last cycle, Donald Trump told Republicans not to vote early, and this time, the party is telling them to vote early,” Jon McHenry, a GOP polling analyst and vice president at North Star Opinion Research, told Blaze News. “Pretty simple.” Although more Democrats have voted early, Republicans are actually outperforming them in some crucial swing states. In Georgia, 48% of the early votes have been cast by Republicans, while 46% have been from Democrats. Similarly, in Arizona, Republicans are outperforming Democrats 42% to 36%, as well as 40% to 36% in Nevada. The two parties are nearly tied in North Carolina, with 35% of early votes coming from Democrats and 34% from Republicans. “The large mail ballot lead enjoyed by Dems has been erased and more by the GOP lead in in-person early voting,” Ralston told The Hill. While Republicans are making strides in the Sun Belt, Democrats have held onto their lead in the Rust Belt states. In Michigan, 52% of early votes were cast by Democrats, while just 38% came from Republicans. In Pennsylvania, the swing state with the highest electoral vote count, 62% of early votes came from Democrats and 29% came from Republicans. In Wisconsin, 37% of early votes were cast by Democrats and 21% of Republicans did the same. "It doesn't matter a whole lot whether you get them early or you get them late, as long as they get there," McHenry said. "The advantage of getting them early is that you know that they're already banked. You won't have to sweat Election Day quite as much." Notably, nearly half of early votes in Wisconsin and a third of votes in North Carolina came from independents. Roughly a quarter of early votes in Nevada and Arizona also came from independents. Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Georgia have had the lowest independent turnout, bringing in 10%, 9%, and 6%, respectively. “Just because you’re registered as a Democrat doesn’t mean you voted for Kamala Harris,” McHenry told Blaze News. “You might be registered as a Democrat, but you've gotten sick to death of the Democrats over the last four years and just didn't bother to change your registration. You might just vote for Trump.”
