‘Let’s Debate From What’s True’: Former Microsoft CEO Talks New ‘Facts’ Venture, AI With Ben Shapiro

Former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer told Daily Wire Editor Emeritus Ben Shaprio he wants to help center political discussions and debate around truth and facts – and numbers.  Speaking to Shaprio on “The Sunday Special” this week, Ballmer talked about his new venture, USA Facts, which seeks to put out statistical information so the American people can better understand issues without partisan interjection.  “Here are the numbers. And before you have your damn debate, at least let’s debate from what’s true,” Ballmer said. “And let’s not be like a politician – just grab one number out of the ether and give it no context to somehow alarm people or excite people.”  Shapiro highlighted a USA Facts video in which Ballmer outlines illegal immigration by the numbers, showing how millions of illegals have entered the United States every year under the Biden-Harris administration. The video, posted in August, has racked up nearly 8.5 million views.  Shapiro noted that some of the information might offend people on the political Left due to the polarizing nature of politics. Ballmer acknowledged that he has seen partisan reactions, but remains hopeful. For example, he said he’s been in meetings with politicians from both sides of the aisle to provide them with statistical information.  “We’ve been able to have a set of bipartisan meetings to discuss the facts, more so in the Senate, with Sen. Romney, Sen. Schumer,” Ballmer outlined. “But we’ve had very conservative Republicans and very liberal, so to speak, Democrats sit with us — together — and go through the numbers. Now, people may process them differently, but at least I’ve found there’s some bipartisanship in this notion, at least of some group of people in looking at the numbers.” Ballmer also spoke to Shapiro about artificial intelligence. He said the technology will be as transformative as the development of the internet and microprocessors. Balmer noted that he has little concern about artificial intelligence putting Americans out of work.  “I think it is as big as the rise of microprocessors,” he told Shapiro. “And with microprocessors, I guess I can include PCs, phones, all of that, the Internet and now AI.” AI could, for example, help you plan out a European business trip. It can outline sales data for customers, “it can find the briefing documents for our team, it can summarize all that, it can put it together,” he said.  “That’s a very valuable scenario from my perspective, really game-changing in terms of making people more productive and frankly changing what jobs will exist in our workforce and what jobs want,” Ballmer continued.  MATT WALSH’S ‘AM I RACIST?’ COMING TO DAILYWIRE+ OCT. 28 “I’ll give you another example that’s more in the personal realm,” he said. AI can plan your trip to France after you plug in your budget, for example. “If you’ve never been to France before, hey, this is an astonishing thing that you can go do.” “Hey, look, as a scientist, we’re trying to rapidly do a bunch of experiments for, I don’t know, cancer research,” Baller said, outlining another application of AI. “There’s just so many good examples.” Ballmer argued that new developments would change the employment landscape, but not put Americans out of work.  “How many jobs can we automate?” Ballmer posed. “I’m a big believer that our economy is resilient. If we automate away some piece of work, a new door will open.” “I don’t fear that because there’s been so many innovations that have led to net growth as opposed to net shrinkage in what we do,” he added. “So for me, I’m bullish now.”

Speaker Johnson: Intel Leak From Biden-Harris Admin Against Israel ‘Very Concerning’

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) over the weekend said the classified intelligence leak against Israel from inside the Biden-Harris administration was “very concerning.” News broke on Saturday that classified material was published online by a pro-Iran Telegram account that showed the U.S. was spying on Israel as the country prepares to launch a military strike against Iran in response to Iran’s missile attack on the country at the start of the month. Johnson responded to the incident during a Sunday interview with Jake Tapper on CNN’s “State of the Union” when Tapper brought up how there is now an investigation underway to determine the source of the leak. “What’s the latest on the investigation into this leak, and what did your conversation with Netanyahu go like?” Tapper asked. “How did that go?” MATT WALSH’S ‘AM I RACIST?’ COMING TO DAILYWIRE+ OCT. 28 Johnson said that the leak was “very concerning” and that he would get a classified briefing on the status of the investigation later today. He said that he spoke yesterday to Netanyahu, whose home was targeted in a drone attack early Saturday morning, and told him that had he listened to the Biden-Harris administration’s advice about how to carry out their war against Hamas and Hezbollah that Israel would be “in a much weaker position right now.” “Now is the time for a maximum pressure campaign against the head of the snake,” he said. “It’s not Hezbollah and Hamas and the proxies that are ultimately the threat. It is Iran itself, and I think we need to recognize that reality right now.” WATCH:

How Confident Are Parents in Giving Good Financial Advice to Their Kids?

American parents offer their kids lots of financial advice per year, according to a new poll—but they admit their guidance isn’t always implemented. Indeed, respondents said their child listens only about half the time. The survey of 5,000 parents over age 30, split evenly across all 50 states, asked about the type of financial advice […] The post How Confident Are Parents in Giving Good Financial Advice to Their Kids? appeared first on Good News Network.

New Yorker Writer Stuns: In 15-Year Media Career, ‘I Have Yet to Meet a Trump Supporter'

The weekend brought a startling omission from the venerable, politely left-wing magazine The New Yorker, courtesy of staff writer Jay Caspian Kang: “How Biased Is the Media, Really?” (New Yorker style apparently treats the plural word “media” as singular.) Kang’s answer: Pretty biased toward Democrats, if not the far-left. His question was hooked to Gallup’s annual poll, “Americans’ Trust in Mass Media," a trust which has declined from over 70 percent in 1976 to 31 percent today. You don’t need a Gallup poll to tell that the public’s trust in the mass media -- which for these purposes we can define as the major broadcast and cable networks, newspapers, and a handful of high-profile magazines -- has fallen, and, although the reasons for this decline aren’t as immediately clear as they might seem, the fallout from decades of growing suspicion and contempt toward the press litters the political discourse. Much of the criticism aimed at the media is both fair and accurate, and, even if I don’t believe the scale of the harms to be as large as some say, I do think the attacks carry added significance in an election year…. Kang offered up a hypothetical question, then answered it: Every news organization that feigns objectivity is actually heavily slanted toward the left. Not only that; the media is actively working with the Democrats to defeat Donald Trump. Kang’s “reply” references former NPR editor Uri Berliner, who revealed his company's intolerant brand of tax-funded leftism: The most obvious explanation for this impression is that the press corps is mostly made up of liberals. Conservative outlets are not shy about labelling themselves as such, even if only through a wink and a nod. At prestige outlets--many of which do don the armor of impartiality--the imbalance skews a lot further to the left than what many outsiders might imagine. This past April, a former editor at NPR named Uri Berliner published an article, in the Free Press, about how a decade of cultural shifts inside the company had ushered in the reign of an identity-based progressive politics that was anathema to the journalistic process. While Kang rejected Berliner’s belief that the existence of newsroom identity groups explains the coverage bias, he offered this devastating detail: ….I have mentioned this before, but it bears repeating: in the course of a fifteen-year career that has included stints at radio shows, print outlets, digital media and television, I have yet to meet a Trump supporter at work. …. So let’s start there: the people who make up the prestige press are overwhelmingly liberals who would satisfy most definitions of the “coastal élite.” But does that actually translate into biased coverage? As [New York Times publisher A.G.] Sulzberger intimated, it’s difficult to believe that a press corps mostly made up of one type of person who votes one type of way would not be influenced by both their prior beliefs and their gaps in knowledge. And, indeed, the Times--who bears the brunt of media criticism across all political spectrums--has not endorsed a Republican for President since Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1956, nor do they have a columnist or editorial writer who openly supports Trump. The situation is largely the same at the big network-news shows and most newspapers. So, yes, there is a liberal bias to the news. But then Kang attacked a strawman. The question, then, is whether or not this bias constitutes something bordering on a conspiracy where people within newsrooms and production rooms are actively trying to get Kamala Harris elected. The answer is still no. The American press is not some finely tuned machine but, rather, a chaotic institution in decline made up of individuals from similar backgrounds who hold similar political beliefs. If one must speak broadly about them, they tend to be much more hostile to what they see as the far left than they are to the moderate right…. But as CBS reporter Bernard Goldberg famously wrote in 1996 while criticizing his own network, there’s no need for a conspiracy: "No, we don't sit around in dark corners and plan strategies on how we're going to slant the news. We don't have to. It comes naturally to most reporters." The far-left Green Party did start getting more hostile coverage when it started taking votes away from Democrats, but the sympathetic coverage of the pro-Hamas movement on college campuses, and its soft-pedaling of the evils of Communism, cuts against Kang’s theory of an all-encompassing media hostility toward the far left. Kang underlined his core belief: "I believe that mainstream coverage inevitably tilts toward favoring mainstream Democratic candidates such as Harris…."
