Scientists Complete Search for Radio Signals from Aliens in Solar System 2.0

Researchers were looking for signs of alien technology in a star system very similar to our own solar system, reports Forbes. Scientists used the Allen Telescope Array in California, USA, to search for artificial radio signals potentially created by extraterrestrial civilizations in the TRAPPIST-1 star system. Located in the Milky Way, about 41 light-years away from Earth, TRAPPIST-1 is often referred to as “Solar System 2.0” due to its similarities to our own Solar System. The results of the study have been accepted for publication in the Astronomical Journal, according to Forbes. The TRAPPIST-1 system consists of a red dwarf star and seven rocky planets, all roughly Earth-sized. This is the largest number of terrestrial planets orbiting a single star. Some of these planets are within the habitable zone of the red dwarf, meaning they could potentially support liquid water on their surfaces—raising the possibility that life, including intelligent and technologically advanced life, could exist there. Given these conditions, scientists decided to search for radio signals that might indicate alien technology. Specifically, they looked for radio transmissions that extraterrestrial beings might send between planets. It is generally thought that it might be easier to detect signs of alien technology than to find direct evidence of alien biological life. For 28 hours, scientists used the radio telescope to monitor the TRAPPIST-1 system, marking the longest continuous search for alien radio signals in this star system. Of the vast number of radio signals detected—2,264 in total—none were artificial in origin, indicating that no signs of alien technology were found. Although this particular search for potential alien activity in TRAPPIST-1 was unsuccessful, the study yielded valuable data that may aid future searches for extraterrestrial civilizations. Scientists say they are approaching the point where they could detect the same types of radio signals that humans send into space, which could improve the chances of identifying alien intelligence. Currently, researchers are limited to detecting radio signals similar to those humans transmit. However, more powerful radio telescopes will soon be operational, enabling the detection of weaker signals from potential alien civilizations communicating with their spacecraft. One example is the Square Kilometre Array, a $2.2 billion project consisting of two arrays of radio dishes in southern Africa and western Australia, which is set to begin operations soon. This advanced telescope will be capable of detecting faint radio signals that might originate from extraterrestrial civilizations. Irony Is Dead: Kimmel Calls Trump Fox Town Hall 'North Korea-Level Propaganda'

ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel showed a stunning lack of self-awareness on Wednesday as he accused Fox News of conducting a “North Korea-level” town hall with Donald Trump. After playing a montage of various Fox personalities praising Bret Baier’s interview with Kamala Harris, Kimmel reacted to Trump's response with an interesting use of the word "us." “Alright, save it for the post-show orgy, everybody, come on now. They all sit there in fear, imagining Donald Trump on the toilet watching them. Trump said Fox has grown ‘so weak and soft’ on the Democrats. Which is true. They barely accuse us of eating babies anymore.”     Speaking of Harris, Kimmel added, “You remember when Trump was complaining that Kamala Harris wouldn't sit for interviews? Now she's on TV more often than those Jardiance commercials.” However, “while Trump was hammering Fox for being too fair to his opponent, this is the grilling he got earlier today from Fox right from the start at his pre-taped all-women town hall.” Kimmel then played a clip from the town hall where a woman began her question about illegal immigration, “Dear President Trump, thank you so much for everything you have done for this country. You fought for us in the past, you are fighting for us right now, and I know you will fight for us in the future.” Kimmel replied, “So, some hard-hitting stuff going on there. This is like North Korea-level propaganda. This is a hand-picked audience of Trump-loving women in Georgia.” By supposed contrast, Kimmel asks Harris about red states supposedly wanting to ban birth control, Doug Emhoff about fantasy football and McDonald’s, and Tim Walz about being a school cafeteria supervisor and whether families wearing matching Christmas pajamas is weird. The comedians cannot have it both ways. They can either be the court jester who just clowns around or they can portray themselves as serious political thinkers who use jokes instead of lectures or long-winded essays to educate their audience on issues they care about, but they cannot do both. Here is a transcript for the October 16 show: ABC Jimmy Kimmel Live! 10/16/2024 11:40 PM ET JIMMY KIMMEL: Alright, save it for the post-show orgy, everybody, come on now. They all sit there in fear, imagining Donald Trump on the toilet watching them. Trump said Fox has grown "so weak and soft" on the Democrats. Which is true. They barely accuse us of eating babies anymore, but you remember when Trump was complaining that Kamala Harris wouldn't sit for interviews? Now she's on TV more often than those Jardiance commercials, she's--. Meanwhile, while Trump was hammering Fox for being too fair to his opponent, this is the grilling he got earlier today from Fox right from the start at his pre-taped all-women town hall. HARRIS FAULKNER: Women's issues are everybody's issues, and we're doing it with the voters asking questions. So, please, take it away. WOMAN: Dear President Trump, thank you so much for everything you have done for this country. DONALD TRUMP: Thank you. WOMAN: You fought for us in the past, you are fighting for us right now, and I know you will fight for us in the future. TRUMP: Thank you. KIMMEL: So, some hard-hitting stuff going on there. This is like North Korea-level propaganda. This is a hand-picked audience of Trump-loving women in Georgia.

Flailing aides prove unable to save Kamala Harris from absolute 'TRAIN WRECK' Bret Baier interview

Kamala Harris has historically kept her unscripted engagements with the fourth estate to a bare minimum. In the handful of instances in which Harris has actually sat down for interviews as a presidential candidate, they have nearly all been with friendly talking heads from sympathetic networks — such as CBS News, which apparently radically edited footage to make her seem more coherent. Harris sat down Wednesday with Fox News' Bret Baier for a nearly 30-minute interview in an attempt to broaden her reach and offset the loss of voters Democrats have long alienated. It did not go well. It went so poorly, in fact, that Harris' staffers apparently pulled the plug and the Trump team later posted the interview in its entirety as a campaign ad. Speaking to a panel of his peers after the sit-down, Baier revealed that Harris arrived nearly 20 minutes late and that her team frantically tried to cut the interview short, sparing the Democratic candidate from having to dodge additional questions. "I'm talking, like, four people waving their hands like, 'It's gotta stop!'" said Baier. "I had to dismount there at the end." Baier can be seen roughly 26 minutes into the interview referring to Harris' flailing aides, telling Harris, "Madam Vice President, they're wrapping me very hard here. I hope you got to say what you wanted to say about Donald Trump. ... There are a lot of things that people want to know about you and your policies. That's why we invited you here." While Harris appeared frazzled throughout the interview, there were several moments in particular that may have prompted her aides to seek a quick exit. 'What are you talking about?' "More than 70% of people tell [pollsters] the country is on the wrong track," Baier managed to say during one of Harris' filibusters, referring to a new Marquette Law School national survey. "If it's on the wrong track, that track follows three and a half years of you being vice president and President Biden being president. That is what they're saying — 79% of them. Why are they saying that if you're turning the page? You've been in office for three and a half years." "And Donald Trump has been running for office," said Harris. "But you've been the person holding the office, Madam Vice President," responded Baier. "Come on," said Harris, smiling. "Come on. You and I both know what I am talking about. You and I both know what I am talking about." Baier, genuinely confused as to Harris' meaning, responded, "I actually don't. What are you talking about?" Harris, ostensibly unsure herself, pivoted into another attack on President Donald Trump, saying, "Over the last decade, people have become — but listen, over the last decade, it is clear to me and certainly the Republicans who are on stage with me, the former chief of staff to the president, Donald Trump, the former defense secretaries, national security adviser, and his vice president, one, that he is unfit to serve, that he is unstable, that he is dangerous, and that people are exhausted with someone who professes to be a leader who spends full time demeaning and engaging in personal grievances." When asked to estimate how many illegal aliens have stolen into the country during her time as America's border czar, Harris proved unable or at the very least unwilling to answer. Instead she tossed another word salad. "I'm glad you raised the issue of immigration, because I agree with you, it is a topic of discussion that people want to rightly have," said Harris. "And you know what I'm going to talk about." "Do you think it's 1 million, 3 million?" said Baier. U.S. Customs and Border Protection data indicates that over 2 million illegal aliens have so far entered the country in fiscal year 2024. "Bret, let's just get to the point, okay? The point is that we have a broken immigration system that needs to be repaired," said Harris. Baier noted between interruptions that the Biden-Harris administration dismantled Trump-era policies that helped secure the border and prevent the release of illegal aliens into the U.S. Harris responded by listing several unrelated initiatives she and Biden pushed upon taking office, then suggested she had also advanced "a bill to fix our immigration system." Baier, who wasn't buying what Harris was selling, noted that the vice president was referring to the U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021. The bill, which failed despite a federal Democratic trifecta, would have both provided a path to citizenship for tens of millions of illegal aliens and weakened various immigration policies. When the interviewer began to highlight the nature of the bill, Harris cut him off and resumed talking around the question. 'She couldn't give a straight answer to a single question because she has no answers.' In another instance that might have worried Harris' aides, the vice president demonstrated difficulty reconciling her newfound ability to diagnose Trump's supposed instability from afar with her years-long failure to recognize Biden's decrepitude up close. After noting that Harris previously called Trump "misguided," "unstable," "not well," and "mentally not stable," Baier said, "You told many interviewers that 'Joe Biden was on his game,' that [he] 'ran around circles on his staff.' When did you first notice that President Biden's mental faculties appeared diminished?" Even though Harris replaced Biden as the Democratic candidate because of the widespread recognition of the president's decrepitude, Harris suggested to Baier that there actually was no problem, stating, "Joe Biden I have watched in from the Oval Office to the Situation Room, and he has the judgment and the experiment — and experience — to do exactly what he has done in making very important decisions on behalf of the American people." "You met with him at least once a week for three and a half years. You didn't have any concerns?" asked Baier. Harris refused to answer and instead attacked Trump. Trump responded to the interview on Truth Social, writing, "She has a massive and irredeemable case of TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME - So bad, in fact, that she is barely able to talk about any subject other than the man who had the best economy ever, the strongest border in history, and who just got the UNANIMOUS ENDORSEMENT OF THE U.S. Border Patrol, ME!" Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) tweeted, "To my Democratic friends: maybe you should consider swapping Kamala Harris for Joe Biden." "Kamala Harris' interview with Bret Baier was a TRAIN WRECK," wrote Karoline Leavitt, press secretary for the Trump campaign. "Kamala was angry, defensive, and once again abdicated any responsibility for the problems Americans are facing. She couldn't give a straight answer to a single question because she has no answers." Brian Fallon, a top Harris campaign aide, told NPR, "We feel like we definitely achieved what we set out to achieve in the sense that she was able to reach an audience that's probably been not exposed to the arguments she's been making on the trail." Donald Trump shares the plans he has for Elon Musk if he’s elected in exclusive Glenn Beck interview

Earlier this week, former President Donald Trump joined Blaze Media co-founder Glenn Beck for an exclusive interview. Among the subjects the duo discussed were Kamala’s dramatic policy reversals — especially when it comes to the border — who’s really calling the shots in the White House (not Joe Biden), and the reported falling out between Harris and Biden following the president’s ousting. They also conferred about Elon Musk, who’s been a welcome addition to the Trump campaign. Glenn asked Trump if he was serious about utilizing the Tesla/SpaceX/X owner if he’s elected. “Oh sure,” said Trump, calling Musk “a great businessman.” “He feels that there's tremendous fraud, waste, and abuse. ... He could save a lot of money and make lives better,” Trump continued. He explained that while Musk “doesn’t want to be in the Cabinet,” as he’s “got so many things going on,” he has expressed interest in a role “having to do with the budget.” “He’s good at finding [waste],” said Glenn, pointing to “the way he runs his companies” as a testament to his savviness. “He’s maybe the best at finding that,” Trump agreed. “It really is such a statement that he's probably the most effective person on the planet of looking over the horizon and then bringing tomorrow into today, and the left, because he likes you ... they will shut him down,” Glenn added. “They’ll try, but he’s hard to shut down because he’s so advanced. He’s on a different playing field,” Trump praised, adding that shutting Elon down was going to “shut the country down essentially.” To hear more of the interview, watch the episode above. 2004 was the first year of the future

Image: Cath Virginia / The Verge In early 2004, the world was shaking it like a Polaroid picture, flocking to theaters to see what was going to happen with all those hobbits, and wondering if that Tom Brady guy was something special. Meanwhile, a few folks around the world were inventing the web as we know it now: A world-shaking social network was brewing in a Harvard dorm room. A Google employee was dreaming up the future of email in their spare time. The coolest cellphone of all time was just about to drop. The internet was still a niche activity, but that was about to change — and fast. In so many ways, the digital world in which we now all live was created 20 years ago. Google went public and began to ascend to rule the web. Facebook, Gmail, Firefox, Flickr, and... Continue reading…
