Password manager makers want to let you securely transfer passkeys

Illustration by Cath Virginia / The Verge | Photo from Getty Images The FIDO Alliance, the organization that’s helping shepherd passkey adoption, announced a draft of new specifications that would let users securely move their passkeys across different password managers. Passkeys are great — it’s nice to be able to log in to apps and websites without entering a password. But there hasn't been a standard protocol for transferring your passkeys across password managers. The new specifications, the Credential Exchange Protocol (CXP) and Credential Exchange Format (CXF), are designed to fill that gap. The FIDO Alliance’s “Credential Provider Special Interest Group,” which includes representatives from 1Password, Apple, Bitwarden, Google, Microsoft, Okta, and more, collaborated on the specifications. The new... Continue reading…

This screensaver turns your Pixel into a smart home control panel

The Pixel Tablet displaying the new Home Controls screensaver. | Photo by Jennifer Pattison Tuohy / The Verge A new Home Controls screensaver in Android 15 turns your tablet or phone into a smart home dashboard, where you can control devices with a single tap. The interactive screensaver does away with the need to unlock your device or tap a shortcut button, making controlling your connected lights or cameras much quicker. The feature is live now on the Google Pixel Tablet and Pixel phones running Android 15 and should be available on more devices soon. The screensaver appears when your device is docked or connected to a charger. It works with the Google Home app and displays your Favorites tab, which can be customized to show your most used devices, such as individual smart lights, thermostats, and security camera feeds. The tab also has... Continue reading…

The AI in Opera One for iOS can now understand images

The Opera One browser for iOS has just been updated with AI-based Image Understanding capabilities. Opera, which has said that it wants to change how people search the web within the next two years, says it has seen a 66% increase in new users across Europe. This can be explained thanks to the Digital Markets Act legislation, which allows users to choose their default browser instead of solely relying on Safari as the main choice. To continue building momentum, Opera is focusing on AI features to promote its One browser. This time, the company explains that Image Understanding uses photos or images as input to help users learn more about the surrounding environment, solve problems, write code, and more. To use Image Understanding, users can upload one or more photos or take a few with Aria – Opera’s free browser AI – and inquire about the images. “We can see that people are increasingly choosing Opera One,” said Jona Bolin, Product Manager at Opera. “Our mission at Opera is to craft a better browsing experience compared to what you see on iOS, and Image Understanding is the next step in delivering on that promise to our users.” Besides that, Opera One for iOS offers other AI-powered browsing experiences with Aria, from web results to summarizing websites, generating text or code, etc. The new Image Understanding capabilities are part of Opera's broader plan to improve its browser experience using AI. This was also announced during its Opera Browser Days event and is yet another powerful feature before the new Opera One R2 browser becomes available. This future One update will also bring Tab Emojis, a more convenient way to interact with your tabs. It also includes a new split-screen mode inside the browser and music player integration, so you can always have Spotify ready for you. BGR will let you know as the browser adds more AI features to its users. Melissa Gilbert Condemns The Organizers Of ‘Little House On The Prairie’ 50th Anniversary

Melissa Gilbert, who played Laura Ingalls on the classic TV series Little House on the Prairie, recently expressed her displeasure towards the organizers of the show’s 50th anniversary. The actress accused the event management team of promoting a sham and misleading her fans. Also, other cast members like Alison Arngrim, Karen Grassle, Dean Butler, Charlotte Stewart, and Matthew Labyorteaux have joined Melissa as they’ve all decided to maintain their distance from the rest of the planned tour while they apologize to their fans for the disappointment and institute a legal action. Melissa Gilbert condemns the event planner LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE, from left: Michael Landon, Melissa Gilbert, Melissa Sue Anderson / Everett Jack Bishop of Gravel Road Markets was responsible for organizing the event that took a wrong turn as Melissa outed him for running a scam in her name. Melissa alleged that Bishop listed her as a co-producer on various franchise for the 50th anniversary event without any prior knowledge or consenting to it. The 60-year-old shared that even though Bishop was aware of her decision to discontinue from the rest of the tour following the cast reunion and festival in March this year, he continued to use her name for promotional purpose to get credibility with fans while selling his ideas to them for personal gains. Melissa Gilbert / Everett Gilbert called for a Jack-Bishop investigation The actress finds Bishop’s action distasteful as she claimed the organizer preyed on the fans and also subjected them to “horrible mistreatment.” Therefore, Melissa has called for a thorough investigation of Bishop and for him to be sued if found guilty, as she feels the organizer’s action is a stain on the TV series’ lasting legacy. Melissa Gilbert / Instagram Little House of the Prairie cast has decided to “no longer support, promote, or appear at any Gravel Road Markets, LLC events.” They also demanded that their names be removed from any “sales and marketing assets events produced or promoted by Gravel Road Markets, LLC.” They also advised that fans should seek clarification about their tickets from Eventbrite.
