Charitable Organizations Step Up in North Carolina Amid Hurricane Helene Devastation

In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene—even before Hurricane Milton followed in its wake—nonprofit charitable organizations such as Samaritan’s Purse and Save Our Allies stepped up to help the storm’s victims. The president of Samaritan’s Purse, Franklin Graham, told The Daily Signal in a telephone interview that one of the positive things he has seen is neighbor helping neighbor.  “If you’re going to sit in your house or your apartment waiting for the government to come—well, good luck. You’re going to be waiting a long time,” said Graham, the son of the legendary late evangelist the Rev. Billy Graham.   Meet Dianne Messer, who, along with Doug Warden, who is 93-year-old, run Big Oak Mobile Park in Hendersonville, North Carolina.Dianne was kind enough to show me around the property and introduce me to some of the residence, many of whom have been without power for 10 days.… pic.twitter.com/tRZuvYhqi9— Tim Kennedy (@TimKennedyJr1) October 6, 2024 Meanwhile, Save Our Allies founder Sarah Verardo said western North Carolina resembles a war zone in the wake of Helene.  “We are seeing incredible hearts of helping and service,” Verardo said. “And our volunteer team of mostly Special Operations veterans is in there, working right alongside our government and private partners to just be the somebody and be in there making a difference.”  The organization has saved lives, including that of an 11-day-old baby born prematurely, she said. The veterans on Verardo’s team said the destruction they see in North Carolina resembles what they saw in Afghanistan. Notice the house on the left. A giant oak tree split it in half. The owner was home at the time and survived. pic.twitter.com/RWV2EQwenx— Tim Kennedy (@TimKennedyJr1) October 6, 2024 Samaritan’s Purse, a Christian organization that provides spiritual and material aid to hurting people around the world, has deployed more than 9,000 volunteers to help families affected by the hurricane. The organization sent three water-filtration systems to hard-hit areas in western North Carolina on Oct. 4.   (Samaritan’s Purse photo) In a statement, Graham said the systems were originally intended to be used overseas, but now they are needed here in America.   “We are airlifting supplies, mudding out homes, removing trees, and doing so much more—all in Jesus’ name—and we’re thankful for everyone who is helping make it possible,” he said. “We want to remind each person that we help that God loves and cares for them and hasn’t forgotten them.”  The organization had delivered emergency relief supplies in more than 150 helicopter operations, Graham told the Daily Signal.  Meanwhile, Sean Lee, ground team commander of Save Our Allies, said people ask him every day where the Federal Emergency Management Agency is.  “It’s the community, the community of North Carolina, the community of helpers who are here on the ground making a difference every day to try to keep these people alive until there is a bigger response,” Lee said. “We hit communities every day that are just devastated. And I keep using that word, because I can’t find another word.”  FEMA allocated $650 million of this year’s budget to the funding of its Shelters and Services Program “to provide humanitarian services to noncitizen migrants following their release from the Department of Homeland Security.”  As of Monday, FEMA had spent more than $210 million on Hurricane Helene assistance.  Spoke with a Henderson County native, Tristin, in a Waffle House just south of Asheville. Here's how you can help. #meritstreet #news #drphil #HurricaneHelene pic.twitter.com/bICTOshrS5— Merit Street | Providing Clarity & Solutions (@MeritStreet) October 8, 2024 Graham said it’s a very worrisome thing that hundreds of people in North Carolina remain missing about 10 days after Helene dissipated.  “We can replace stuff and roads and things like that, but we can’t replace people,” Graham told the Daily Signal. “And, so, I’ve just asked people to pray for the families that have lost loved ones and those that are still missing.”  The post Charitable Organizations Step Up in North Carolina Amid Hurricane Helene Devastation  appeared first on The Daily Signal.

9 Easy To Build Chicken Watering Stations

If you're looking for an easy-to-build and easy-to-maintain chicken watering system, here's a list specifically created to keep your flock hydrated! RELATED: Raising Chickens In Your Homestead | The Ultimate Guide Chicken Watering System to Keep Your Flock Happy DIY Chicken Watering System When you choose to raise chickens on your homestead you're required to invest in a couple of things. One thing you will need is a chicken coop that serves as a territory for the hens to lay eggs. Another thing you will need is a watering station. You can physically keep the station brimming with water constantly or you can make an automatic watering station. Here are 10 easy-to-build automatic chicken watering system ideas for you to choose from! 1. Homemade Chicken Waterer for Less Than $2 If you’re just getting started and short of cash in the meantime. This homemade chicken watering station is your perfect solution. Grab a 9″ pan, and #10 can (1-gallon can) or any durable container. Put 2 holes, 1 each on opposite sides of your can that's about an inch up from the open end. Ensure the holes are lower than the lip of the cake pan you're putting it in. Simply fill up the can with water and put the can on top of the cake pan, similar to a lid. Keeping the pan in place, spin it upside down. The can is now set above the pan, this will allow the water to flow freely from 2 holes into the pan. The water will stop flowing once it's already level to the 2 holes. Once your chickens start drinking, it automatically refills the pan with the stored water in the can. This may not be for a long-term solution but it's simple and frugal enough to keep your flock well hydrated. 2. DIY Automatic 5-Gallon Chicken Watering System This DIY automatic chicken watering station is easy to put together using the right materials plus it's totally worry-free and hands-free! Since it's made of plastic and rubber, it's also easy to disassemble and sanitize. Made of a clean 5-gallon bucket, basic fittings, and other easy-to-find materials, this DIY automatic chicken waterer will solve all your troubles in keeping your chicken hydrated. 3. PVC Pipe Chicken Nipple Waterer This PVC pipe chicken nipple waterer is your very simple way to keep the water supply for your chickens without having messy overturned containers! 4. DIY Soda Bottle Chicken Waterer A simple and affordable DIY project! You'll need a 1-liter plastic soda bottle, cutting tools, and a soldering iron to make tiny holes. Once you're done, just fill your 1-liter soda bottle with water, screw the cap on the soda bottle and turn it upside down. The water will then begin flowing into the station and chickens can pierce their heads into the open end to get to the drinking water. Refill the bottle when it gets empty. Depending on the size of your flock, once or twice daily will be fine. This DIY soda bottle chicken watering system will keep you and your chicken happy. It's a nifty idea that is cost-effective and totally impressive! RELATED: Chicken Breeds [Chapter 1] Raising Backyard Chickens 5. DIY Rain-Collecting Chicken Water System By using a float valve and some basic plumbing supplies, you can build an effective automatic watering system for your chicken. The water is collected in rain barrels and supplied to the water system through a regular garden hose. 6. DIY Mesh Chicken Watering System You can also build an efficient chicken water feeder using recycled materials you can find in your homestead! It's simple to make and won't break the bank! This type of chicken watering system works great for a small and large number of chickens. 7. DIY Glass Chicken Waterer If you're not a fan of plastic, this DIY chicken watering system made out of a glass jar is a treat for you and your flock. Since this is a small-sized watering system, it's best to use it for chicks. 8. No-Mess Watering Station Aside from the nipples, another major factor in keeping your chicken coop mess-free is by using a simple tray under the waterer where the excess droplets fall every time the chickens drink from it. If that appeals to you, what are you waiting for? Watch the video and try this nifty chicken watering system and provide your flock enough water to keep them productive. 9. DIY Chicken Nipple-Bucket Watering Station Using 5 nipples to keep a flock of 20 chickens hydrated is not bad at all! This is what this DIY chicken nipple watering station is all about. Simply make holes at the bottom of your bucket to fit the chicken nipples in. Fill the bucket with water and put it where the chicken can easily access it. There might be a need for you to show them that the water will come from the nipples but they will get used to it quickly. Plus, it's with buckets, so it keeps dirt and other bacteria away. The bigger your bucket the better, as you won't need to refill it with water from time to time.   Wasn't that all fun and easy? Keep your needy chickens hydrated with any of these DIY chicken watering systems and they'll reward you happily. There's so much joy from collecting fresh eggs on a daily basis if possible. I can't thank my flock well enough. So my fellow homesteaders, choose the best watering station for your flock! Happy homesteading! PBS Helps Walz Peddle His Dubious Political Origin Story

On Tuesday, PBS released their latest Frontline documentary entitled The VP Choice: Vance vs. Walz. As part of the show, PBS decided to highlight how both men came to enter politics, but for Walz, that included repeating his factually-challenged origin story. Narrator Will Lyman claimed, “The pivotal moment came in the summer of 2004. He was a member of the National Guard and there was a raging debate going on over the war in Iraq.” As Lyman narrated, PBS showed a photo of Walz holding up a sign that read “Enduring Freedom Veterans for Kerry.”     PBS didn’t dwell on the photo, but it is important for two reasons. First, Walz did not serve in Afghanistan and PBS not only never called him out on that, they also did not call him out over any of his other military-related controversies. Second, the photo shows Walz was already politically active, which would undercut what was to come next. Walz’s former advisor, Terry Morrow, claimed, “In 2004, President Bush came to speak in Mankato in a quarry. And there were two students who wanted to go hear the president speak.” Lyman added, “The students, also Kerry supporters, had publicly clashed with Bush campaign representatives over getting tickets, Walz agreed to be their chaperone.” Walz has falsely stated in the past that the students were his. One of them, Matt Klaber, was in college. Nevertheless, the New York Times’s Ernesto Londono claimed, “Apparently one of the students had a campaign sticker for the Democratic rival, Senator Kerry, on his wallet, and one of the security officials at the rally saw that and sort of identified this group as a threat, and then a confrontation ensued, and Tim Walz describes having become really upset that he and his students couldn't come in.” The Bush people knew Walz from the protest and now he was trying to access a private event since the aforementioned photo was taken by a former Minnesota GOP staffer. Additionally, the two teenagers also had a run with Bush staffers earlier in the week and were deemed a threat by the Secret Service. As they tell it, Walz put on a performance because, as staffer Chris Faulkner told the Washington Examiner, “He was looking for an origin story and he made one up.”  In archival news footage, one of the students declared, “Both of us were, and as Mr. Walz was, we were simply going to see the sitting president of the United States.” The local news anchor added, “They were referring to their teacher, Tim Walz. Klaber says that Walz was nearly arrested, but he was allowed to watch the speech in the company of the Secret Service. Morrow then added, “That concerned Tim, as he later told me. He says, ‘You know, I, I've gotta get involved. I've got, I feel I have to do more. I can't just let this go.’ That we're becoming divisive in a way ‘That is not the America we know or believe in. And I think that I've gotta step up.’” Walz tries to base his appeal around being down-to-earth and being someone who does not have what might be considered a stereotypically liberal personal life, but when you strip away all the cooking recipes and DIY car repair videos, you’re left with a guy who repeatedly makes stuff up about his past for political gain. PBS should call him out on that, not help him. Here is a transcript for the October 8 show: PBS Frontline: The VP Choice: Vance vs. Walz 10/8/2024 10:11 PM ET WILL LYMAN: The pivotal moment came in the summer of 2004. He was a member of the National Guard and there was a raging debate going on over the war in Iraq. NICK FRENTZ: My memory of it is, he felt President Bush and the Republican Party was on the wrong track. And, of course, he's a National Guardsman at the time, knows very well what's at stake-- lives, treasure, all of that. LYMAN: Walz believed the war was going on too long and exacting too high a toll. RYAN WINKLER: I think that was felt personally by somebody like Tim Walz, because he had been in the Guard. It was affecting people in Mankato. It wasn't something on the news overseas. It was something at home that people were experiencing, too. LYMAN: Walz became a vocal supporter of Democratic Senator John Kerry. MAN: For the good of Minnesota, America, and the world, do you want George Bush to be our next president for the next four years? TERRY MORROW: In 2004, President Bush came to speak in Mankato in a quarry. And there were two students who wanted to go hear the president speak. LYMAN: The students, also Kerry supporters, had publicly clashed with Bush campaign representatives over getting tickets, Walz agreed to be their chaperone. GEORGE W. BUSH: Thanks for coming. BRIAN BAKST: And he really wanted to show them that you listen to the, to the president at the time, even if you don't agree with him. BUSH: First, I want to thank all the veterans who are here. I appreciate the example you've set for our troops today. ERNESTO LONDONO: Apparently one of the students had a campaign sticker for the Democratic rival, Senator Kerry, on his wallet, and one of the security officials at the rally saw that and sort of identified this group as a threat, and then a confrontation ensued, and Tim Walz describes having become really upset that he and his students couldn't come in. LYMAN: The controversy made the local news. MAN 2: Both of us were, and as Mr. Walz was, we were simply going to see the sitting president of the United States. LOCAL NEWS REPORTER: They were referring to their teacher, Tim Walz. Klaber says that Walz was nearly arrested, but he was allowed to watch the speech in the company of the Secret Service. MORROW: That concerned Tim, as he later told me. He says, "You know, I, I've gotta get involved. "I've got, I feel I have to do more. "I can't just let this go.” That we're becoming divisive in a way "That is not the America we know or believe in. And I think that I've gotta step up."

CBS caught EDITING Kamala’s ‘60 Minutes’ answer about Israel

If you need any more evidence that the media is owned by the Democrat Party, look no further than what CBS just did to Kamala Harris’ answer about Israel in her recent interview with Bill Whitaker of “60 Minutes.” Dave Rubin plays the original answer Harris gave followed by the edited answer, and they couldn’t be more opposite. “This is wild,” he says. The statement Whitaker posed was: “It seems that Prime Minister Netanyahu is not listening.” In her original, unedited response, Harris said the following: “The work that we have done has resulted in a number of movements in that region by Israel that were very much prompted by or a result of many things, including our advocacy for what needs to happen in the region.” A “completely nonsensical, ridiculous answer,” says Dave. Now compare that to CBS’ version of the clip. To Whitaker’s statement about Netanyahu not listening, Harris said, “We are not going to stop pursuing what is necessary for the United States to be clear about where we stand on the need for this war to end.” It’s clear that editors did away with Harris' word salad and replaced it with “this very direct response” to make her look better."[CBS is] in service to the Democrat Party,” sighs Dave. “Bill Whitaker, who did a really fine job there, he should be seriously pissed, because he did ask good questions.” To see the before and after footage, watch the clip above. Babylon Bee battles Newsom's chilling anti-speech law to protect humor and satire

The satirical website the Babylon Bee has had enough. Claiming that California's recent laws on online speech have gone too far, those at the Bee have filed a motion against California’s Attorney General Robert Bonta, urging the courts to immediately halt enforcement of what they see as unconstitutional restrictions. Several new laws, including AB 2355, AB 2655, and AB 2839, have been accused of eroding the First Amendment protections of free speech. In fact, AB 2839 was recently deemed unconstitutional by a federal judge. Judge John A. Mendez of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California said the law "acts as a hammer instead of a scalpel" and "hinders humorous expression."In an exclusive interview with Blaze News, Kristen Waggoner of the Alliance Defending Freedom spoke about the ongoing battle on behalf of the Babylon Bee."California's laws are a roadmap for widespread censorship. They use vague standards to punish people for posting certain political memes online," Waggoner said. "If Americans can be sued for posting, or even reposting political jokes, then we do not live in a free society."Perhaps the most egregious law is AB 2655, also known as the Defending Democracy from Deepfake Deception Act of 2024.The bill's digest says the law prohibits any person or entity from distributing deceptive audio or visual media about a candidate for elected office within 60 days of the election. If the content intends to "injure the candidate’s reputation or to deceive a voter into voting for or against the candidate," it could be considered illegal. The law also requires any "large online platform" to block deceptive content before and after an election.'Individuals must be able to express political beliefs without fear.'Under the California law, platforms are required to develop reporting procedures for California residents to flag any content that "has not been blocked or labeled in compliance with the act."The laws "censor parody and satire," Waggoner continued. "When Governor Newsom signed the laws, he said publicly that [California] made it illegal to post a parody video about Kamala Harris. So even Governor Newsom thinks the laws ban satire," she claimed.Waggoner went on to say that the same government officials can't seem to articulate to the public how far the laws will go. These acts would "kill humor," Waggoner said, adding that they could blur the lines between a democracy and a dictatorship.Based on what were described as vague standards with steep penalties, the Babylon Bee is asking the government to stop the new laws before they get out of control."In a free society, individuals must be able to express political beliefs without fear of being dragged into court to defend a meme. And we shouldn't trust politicians like Gavin Newsom to be arbiters of political truth online," the attorney added.Newsom's spokesperson, Izzy Gardon, said in a statement that the governor's office was "confident" courts would ultimately uphold the new law against "deepfakes.""Deepfakes threaten the integrity of our elections, and these new laws protect our democracy while preserving free speech," the spokesperson said.Like Blaze News? 'They're giving them drugs': Parents accuse preschool teachers of giving their kids 'sleepy stickers'

A group of parents accused teachers within Texas' Spring Independent School District of giving their preschool-age children "sleepy stickers" — apparently body-worn patches that release melatonin and other substances.Lisa Luviano told WKRC-TV her daughter first brought the sleep patches to her attention last month.'We did say we wanted to file criminal charges if this is something that is true.'"The sticker makes me fall asleep," four-year-old Layne reportedly told Luviano.Luviano told the news outlet that her daughter arrived home from school one day and showed her parents the patch, which she was still wearing at the time."She kind of pulled up her little shorts and said, 'Mom, look, this is my sleeping sticker.' And I was like, the what?" Luviano said. The concerned mother told KTRK-TV that her girl said her teacher gave her the stickers "for sleeping time."Layne's father, Joseph, stated that he suspected something was wrong when his daughter was not falling asleep at night. He told WKRC, "Two o'clock in the morning, I hear some noise in the room, and I go over there, and she's still up."The day after Layne came home and showed her parents the patch, Lisa went to the school and filed a report."We did say we wanted to file criminal charges if this is something that is true," Lisa told KTRK.Lisa also took a photograph of the purple and blue sleep patch — which includes illustrations of a moon, clouds, and stars — and sent the image to other parents in Layne's class.Melissa Gilford, whose child attends the same school as Layne, stated that her daughter recognized the patch from Luviano's photo."I showed it to my 4-year-old, and she said, 'Yes, that's the sleepy sticker,'" Gilford told WKRC.After researching the patch online, Gilford discovered that it contains melatonin and other substances she was unfamiliar with.Najala Abdullah, another parent, explained that her 4-year-old son also received the stickers while in class.Abdullah said, "They're giving them drugs to make them sleep, to keep them quiet."She noted that her son recently stopped eating and was returning home from school with untouched lunches. "Every night, my son will come home. He's staying up. He's not sleeping," she told KTRK.Abdullah also filed a report with the school as well as Child Protective Services.Spring ISD issued a Tuesday statement to KTRK saying two of its teachers were placed on leave as police investigated the matter."Spring ISD is aware of allegations that two staff members at Northgate Crossing Elementary School allegedly administered sleeping supplements to students on Sept. 24. These staff members were immediately removed from the classroom and placed on administrative leave pending an ongoing investigation by the Spring ISD Police Department. The district takes every allegation of educator misconduct seriously and will take all necessary measures to ensure that our students are educated in a safe and nurturing environment," the district stated. You can view a video report here about the controversy.Last December a Spring ISD staff member was placed on administrative leave after allegedly giving melatonin gummies to students.Anything else?Melatonin, which is sold as an over-the-counter nutritional supplement, is not regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. According to Children's Health, there are no extensive studies on the appropriate dosage for children. However, Michelle Caraballo, M.D., a Pediatric Pulmonologist and Sleep Medicine Specialist at Children's Health and Assistant Professor at UT Southwestern, recommends one to three milligrams for toddlers and preschool-age children. The Sleep Foundation recommends just one to two milligrams for children around 5 years old and up to three for children 6 to 12.Like Blaze News?
