EXCLUSIVE: Denying ‘Gender-Affirming Care’ to Children Is ‘Ageist’, Family Therapists Learn in Training

FIRST ON THE DAILY SIGNAL—A group of family therapists learned that denying so-called gender-affirming care to children is an example of “implicit bias” in a Zoom call recorded Monday and obtained by The Daily Signal. The Zoom-based training, titled “Recognizing Bias: Avoiding Pitfalls in Gender-Affirming Care,” was hosted by family psychologist Dr. Shawn Giammattei, who identifies as a transgender man. Giammattei’s training teaches marriage and family therapists to overcome their “unconscious bias” toward transgender children. Pamela Garfield-Jaeger, a self-described “anti-woke” social worker and author of “A Practical Response to Gender Distress: Tips and Tools for Families,” attended the Zoom training call Monday and shared the recording of it with The Daily Signal. “A lot of ageism that comes up is about kids’ ability to know themselves and what age they can actually make informed decisions about their medical care,” Giammattei said during the training call, “and that we have this idea actually that trans people can’t know it no matter how old they are.” COMING SOON: Denying ‘gender-affirming care’ to children Is ‘ageist’, family therapists learn in virtual training, recorded by @truththerapist "A lot of ageism that comes up is about kids' ability to know themselves and what age they can actually make informed decisions about… pic.twitter.com/AHCcUdoUOJ— Elizabeth Troutman Mitchell (@TheElizMitchell) October 8, 2024 The training call came shortly after medical nonprofit watchdog Do No Harm launched a database of 225 hospitals that provide sex-change surgeries, puberty blockers, and/or hormone therapies to children. Nearly 14,000 American children underwent sex-change interventions of some type between 2019 and 2023, according to Do No Harm. Minors who received transgender medical procedures increasingly have been detransitioning after regretting that they took hormones and/or had healthy body parts surgically removed. Chloe Cole says she started identifying as a boy at 12 years old and went under the knife at just 15, only to regret it a few months later. Giammattei uses the “gender-affirmative model” of counseling, which assumes that “the kid is the expert on their own identity.” A slide titled “Understanding Your Gender Web” is part of Shawn Giammattei’s training for counselors. (Pamela Garfield-Jaeger) Giammattei is the founder and CEO of three gender counseling organizations: the Gender Health Training Institute, Quest Family Therapy, and TransFamily Alliance. Giammettei is a psychology professor and associate director of mental health at the Child and Adolescent Gender Center Department of Pediatrics at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital in San Francisco. Giammattei did not respond to The Daily Signal’s request for comment. Giammattei started the Zoom session with a “land acknowledgment” before stating the purpose of the training: making listeners aware of the “types of bias that arise in even the most gender-affirming providers.” “So there’s a lot of internalized transphobia that we all end up with, or homophobia, or all the rest of those things,” the psychologist said. The training aimed to help therapists consider “your own personal and cultural gender narratives and their influence on potential negative and positive biases” by covering “your own gender development and its impact on your understanding of gender for yourself, your kids, and your expectations for clients and their families.” A slide outlines topics in Giammattei’s training for counselors. (Pamela Garfield-Jaeger) The most common form of implicit bias against transgender people, the transgender instructor said on the Zoom call, is “parents not supporting their kids.” “The difference between kids who are supported is that about 4% of them are suicidal,” Giammattei said. “It’s about on par with the rest of the population. For those who are not supported by their parents, 54%.” Giammattei’s statement is in line with what critics call a common lie told to parents: that they have to choose between a living son and a dead daughter. The psychologist also argued that there is a “relationship between anti-trans laws and suicidality.” After discussing suicide rates for trans youth, Giammattei said that “people who were able to get access to gender-affirming care were doing a lot better. They were much happier.” Giammattei admitted that many family therapists are “child-centered,” ignoring the parents or guardians of minors. “We tend to do collateral work with parents, and we don’t include them on the journey,” Giammattei said. “We expect them to just show up and get it. And they have a whole process that they need to go through that’s part of this. And so I think that it’s frustrating. It’s like, why do I have to work with you?” Therapists are often “unaware of the beliefs we have that may impact our clients,” Giammattei said, adding: “I have these negative biases, and I can feel them in my body.” Giammattei told therapists in the Zoom call that they all have biases. (Pamela Garfield-Jaeger) Giammattei refers to herself as a “man” with “white privilege” who constantly needs to go through “the cisgender privilege checklist.” “I stand here before you as a very privileged man,” Giammattei said. “I’ll put it that way. Even though I have a transgender experience, I’m privileged in the fact that my family was affluent, although I ended up homeless.” Holding “the idea that sex outside of your marriage is infidelity” is an example of bias, the psychologist said, describing asking clients about their “take on consensual nonmonogamy” and “polyamory.” Therapists are biased if they believe those things are wrong, Giammattei said. “I may push more for people to try things that they may not have thought of,” the psychologist said. Transgender individuals are victims of transphobia and the cure to their struggles is “expressing one’s authentic gender.” Giammattei prefers the “Gender Affirmative Model” for counseling kids who say they are transgender. (Pamela Garfield-Jaeger) “Gender variations are not disorders,” one slide read by the presenter says. “Gender presentations are diverse and varied across culture, requiring cultural sensitivity/humility.” Giammattei advertised a two-day training session later this month titled “Unpacking and Contextualizing Gender: Managing Bias in the Therapeutic Relationship.” Such awareness training is an “ongoing, never-ending process” about “becoming fully aware of what’s happening in our biases and how they impact the work that we do,” Giammattei said. Coincidence? Days After the International Bird Flu Summit, New Cases of Bird Flu in Humans Reported

Just days after an International Bird Flu Summit in Washington, DC, we get reports that new cases of bird flu in humans have been reported in California. John Leake, of the McCullough Foundation, attended the conference and rightfully points out the suspicious/auspicious timing of this new possible pandemic: The timing of the Summit is auspicious. Like COVID-19, which arrived in the United States during the election year of 2020, the introductory speaker emphasized that the first case of human to human transmission of H5N1 was just detected in Missouri (less than two months before the 2024 presidential election). The new bird flu cases were immediately picked up by the mainstream media that is hungry for the threat of a new pandemic: Two farmworkers in California tested positive for H5 bird flu, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed…. The confirmation came hours after the California Department of Public Health announced the first two presumptive positive cases in humans in the state. Both workers’ specimens were submitted to CDC for confirmatory testing. Health officials said the two cases appeared to be unrelated. The people worked on different dairy farms in California’s Central Valley and both farms had cattle known to be positive for H5N1 avian influenza. The suspicious timing of the conference coupled so quickly with new bird flu cases certainly lends credence to concerns that bird flu will be this year’s election “October surprise.” In a new article for the Brownstowne Institute, Dr. Clayton Baker lays out three reasons why bird flu is the most likely – though not the only possible – pandemic related October surprise: Multiple bio labs in the United States and abroad – such as the lab run byYoshihiro Kawaoka, PhD at the University of Wisconsin – perform alarming Gain-of-Function research on the H5N1 virus, making variants of the virus that are much more dangerous to humans than variants that occur in nature. These labs have had leaks with alarming frequency. The current strains of bird flu in the US show strong genetic evidence of having originated in a laboratory. A laboratory leak of a new strain of the virus, manipulated to be highly transmissible and/or pathogenic in humans, remains a real possibility. The “International Bird Flu Summit” will be held on October 2-4, 2024 at the Hilton Fairfax in Fairfax, VA – just outside Washington, DC – exactly one month prior to the election. Listed topics include “Command, Control and Management,” “Emergency Response Management,” and “Surveillance and Data Management.” If this sounds eerily reminiscent to you of the Covid lockdowns – which were also closely preceded by government-based planning exercises – your memory serves you well. The infrastructure is already in place for a “pandemic” of bird flu, much more than it is for other potential pathogens. Already, widespread testing of farms is underway. The development of bird flu vaccines has increased dramatically. The FDA has already approved vaccines made by Sanofi, GSK subsidiary ID Biomedical Corporation of Quebec, and CSL Seqirus, while Moderna recently received a $176 million government grant for its mRNA-based bird flu injection, which is in development. Truth over Fear While the threat of a pandemic-related October surprise is real, Dr. Baker – like many other freedom-fighting medical professionals – urges that people do not live in fear but instead stay informed: The first step in dealing with these continual reports of horrific pathogens is recognizing the vital importance of living in knowledge rather than in fear. “Fear porn” is a real psychological weapon and one that is being used against us on a daily basis. As we painfully learned during Covid, a terrified population is easily manipulated, controlled, and exploited. As free citizens, we must remain mindful and knowledgeable, rather than fearful, about the flood of information and propaganda that is hurled at us. Be Prepared – Not Scared One of the most important pieces of knowledge every American should have is the knowledge that they don’t simply have to trust the corrupt biopharmaceutical complex and their partners in crime – big government and the legacy media. Homeland Security Secretary’s Claims On FEMA Funds Contradicted By Watchdog, Agency Sitting On Billions

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas faces a new firestorm after a watchdog report disputed his claims that FEMA doesn’t have the funding to withstand the remainder of hurricane season. “We are meeting the immediate needs with the money that we have, we are expecting another hurricane hitting. We do not have the funds. FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) does not have the funds to make it through the season,” Mayorkas previously said. WTF??! The Biden Harris regime is now saying FEMA does NOT have enough funds to make it through Hurricane season. RIGHT AFTER giving BILLIONS more to Ukraine. ENOUGH WITH THE AMERICA LAST BS. pic.twitter.com/LtwaokQzpg — Nick Sortor (@nicksortor) October 2, 2024 However, the DHS’ Inspector General released a report in August saying the agency has billions in unliquidated funds. FEMA's slush fund is about $73 billion. That money needs to be released for much needed relief.DHS’s Office of Inspector General noted that in 2022 that FEMA has approximately $73 billion in unliquidated funds remaining open."While FEMA is expected to ask Congress for new… pic.twitter.com/mFFFOnBKsu — Robert W Malone, MD (@RWMaloneMD) October 8, 2024 “A DHS inspector general report found over $7 billion in unliquidated FEMA funds, contradicting Secretary Mayorkas’ recent statement that FEMA lacked funds for future disasters. The funds, earmarked for disasters from 2012 or earlier, could be returned to FEMA’s Disaster Relief Fund, as Hurricane Milton approaches Florida,” Mario Nawfal wrote. WATCH: BREAKING: WATCHDOG UNCOVERS $7B IN UNTAPPED FEMA FUNDS DESPITE MAYORKAS CLAIMING NONE AVAILABLE A DHS inspector general report found over $7 billion in unliquidated FEMA funds, contradicting Secretary Mayorkas' recent statement that FEMA lacked funds for future disasters.… pic.twitter.com/IopWxJ4n35 — Mario Nawfal (@MarioNawfal) October 7, 2024 From the New York Post: But DHS Inspector General Joseph Cuffari found in his Aug. 14 report that as of October 2022, FEMA had $8.3 billion in unliquidated funds meant to relieve declared disasters from 2012 or earlier. More than $7 billion of that “could potentially be returned to the Disaster Relief Fund,” the report notes, referring to FEMA’s dedicated fund for natural calamities. So far, the feds have paid just $4 million to Americans hit by Helene in the Southeast, providing up to $750 in immediate aid for individuals to help cover the cost of groceries and emergency supplies. The storm has killed at least 232 people and caused more than $47.5 billion in devastation. “It took one week for some of the county mayors in my home state to even get a phone call from FEMA, and Kamala Harris has the nerve to announce ‘a dire humanitarian situation’ in another country,” Sen. Marsha Blackburn told The Post, referencing the VP’s announcement of $157 million in US aid to Lebanon over the weekend. In a slap-in-the-face pair of statements, the Biden-Harris administration announced $2 million in emergency relief funds for South Carolina the same day it announced $157 million for Lebanon. DHS Secretary Mayorkas is facing another firestorm for saying that FEMA is out of funds for disaster relief, but an Inspector General report just released says that FEMA has at least $8.3B in untapped, unused funds. Why is Mayorkas lying about this?https://t.co/qrtLwh6Nz2 — Robbie Mouton (@mcgmouton57) October 7, 2024 Per Fox Business: This new controversy is surfacing as Hurricane Milton has become a Category 5 storm, and massive evacuations are now underway in Florida, which is still struggling from Hurricane Helene, as is much of the Southeast. But analysts say FEMA cannot tap unspent appropriations from long-ago crises, so the money sits frozen as 600 people are reportedly still missing from Hurricane Helene, at least 220 died, and entire towns were wiped off the map. Helene is the most catastrophic hurricane to hit the U.S. since Katrina in 2005. Budget experts warn that this new firestorm shows that FEMA has been turned into a slush fund that the agency and the Biden-Harris White House can spend at will. An August 2024 report from Homeland Security’s Office of Inspector General noted, “As of October 2022, FEMA estimated that 847 disaster declarations with approximately $73 billion in unliquidated funds remained open.” The report also says “$8.3 billion in unliquidated obligations” was “for disasters declared in 2012 or earlier” that analysts say could be returned to help people battling for survival in disasters now.
