WINGED, BLACK, MONKEY-LIKE CRYPTID Seen in London, UK Suburb

A British man is walking to the bus stop when he encounters a winged, small black-bodied sleek figure walking or (running) on four skinny legs resembling a monkey with a long "ratlike" tail.I received the following account:"My husband works shifts. One morning (around 5.00am) in 2000 he had just left our bungalow to walk to the bus stop to catch the first of two buses to work. Being Summer, it was very bright for the time of morning and he told me he was just collecting his thoughts, thinking about the tasks he had to do that day, and the list of groceries that I asked him to get when from above and a little way off, he heard a rustling of leaves from a tree behind a wall of a garden; thinking it was a squirrel he looked up and he told me he thought he was seeing things. What he said he saw was a small black-bodied sleek figure walking or (running) on four skinny legs resembling a monkey with a long "ratlike" tail, it looked like the head was round with pointed ears on either side of it. My husband couldn't see the creature's facial features as it moved with extreme speed; when it hit the ground it scurried away from him, but he said he swore he saw what he thought was a wing (in the brief time he saw the creature airborne) which appeared to be "pinned back" to the side of creatures body on the nearest side to him. My husband is a practical, no-nonsense man who is somewhat skeptical about the supernatural and paranormal (although doesn't disbelieve altogether), he was slightly reluctant to tell me in case I would think he was "having me on." We discussed the incident that night when he got home. He had already texted me about it and I was intrigued. I did ask my husband if it could have been a large bat! On talking about it and thinking it through properly we concluded it couldn't have been a bat, as this creature that my husband saw had four legs and a rat's tail.We walk that route all the time; to get out of the estate and to the shops, before, and since the incident and we've never seen a creature like that. We are both natives of London and we are unaware of such a creature even existing so we are still trying to work out what this creature could have been." TALL, MULATTO, GOLD-BROWN EYED COUPLE Encountered on Chicago Street!

A mulatto man and a woman, walking together on a Chicago street. Their eyes were gold-brown and glowed, and their hair was in long lush braids with blonde color woven in.I received the following account:"About 5 years ago, I was walking in Chicago from my hotel to Shake Shack on S. Michigan Ave. after work in the summer, and I passed two very tall beings who immediately gave me the weirdest feeling of danger and to get the hell out of there. It was a man and a woman, and their skin color looked as if they were half white/half black, so their skin tone was the perfect brownish/tan. Their eyes were gold-brown and glowed, and their hair was in long lush braids with blonde color woven in. However, despite their blatant beauty, I was terrified. They looked as if they could be twins, walking in an odd stride, maybe odd because of how tall they were, and even more odd because of how alike they looked. They were so perfect they could have been models, but every cell in my body and the souls of my cells told me I just had a glimpse into something I had no possibility of understanding.Anyway, given that I always trust my gut, I crossed the street to get away from them. I continued to walk alongside them across the street, trying to keep up the best I could, but they were so fast I just couldn’t. Despite wanting to keep my eyes on them to make sure they weren’t going to mess with me because maybe they could sense I knew something I shouldn’t, I was relieved when they were out of sight.I finally arrived at Shake Shack, and some random guy decided to talk to me, gave me a coupon (even though I already ordered, so what’s the point), and said “Good luck.” Then there I stood asking myself, “Why did this guy just wish me good luck?” It was almost as if he knew that I was on a weary path or just saw something unusual. I was so creeped out and I will never ever forget this 1-hour capsule in my life." Family Is Finally Ready to Sell 1,000 Christmas Trees Planted a Decade Ago to Fund Their Grandchildren’s Education

In rural Indiana, a couple are selling around 1,000 stately fir and pine trees for Christmas to help fund the education of their 8 grandchildren. Shawn and Bruce Carpenter planted around 5,000 tiny trees a decade ago, reasoning that by the time they reach between 6 and 10 feet tall, their grandchildren will begin shipping […] The post Family Is Finally Ready to Sell 1,000 Christmas Trees Planted a Decade Ago to Fund Their Grandchildren’s Education appeared first on Good News Network.

Deadpool, Kidpool, and Lynda Carter Want to Get Rid of Sick Kids

News Deadpool Deadpool, Kidpool, and Lynda Carter Want to Get Rid of Sick Kids By Vanessa Armstrong | Published on December 12, 2024 Screenshot: Ryan Reynolds/Marvel Studios Comment 0 Share New Share Screenshot: Ryan Reynolds/Marvel Studios It’s the holiday season! A time for caring and giving, and for Ryan Reynolds, creating a short as Deadpool hanging out with Kidpool (who, in Deadpool & Wolverine, was played by his then-seven-year-old daughter, Inez Reynolds) to raise money for the Canadian charity, SickKids. The video, set on a snowy rooftop, includes several festive F-bombs as Kidpool and Deadpool hang out in Santa’s sleigh (Santa’s whereabouts remain unknown). Deadpool explains that he wants to get rid of sick kids (not by killing them, don’t worry!) but says that since he and Kidpool are R-rated, they need some family-friendly help. That’s when Lynda Carter shows up, in what will likely be the only on-screen DC and Marvel crossover we’ll ever get. After Deadpool calls Carter a… wonderful woman… she does the classic spin around. You’ll have to watch to see what she changes into, but don’t get your hopes up too much; as Deadpool references in the clip, lawyers are gonna lawyer. The clip is cute and also supports a good cause. The ask is for folks to donate to the SickKids Foundation before Christmas, with Reynolds and his wife Blake Lively matching donations up to $500,000. Check out the clip below. And as Deadpool might say, have a Merry F*****g Christmas![end-mark] The post Deadpool, Kidpool, and Lynda Carter Want to Get Rid of Sick Kids appeared first on Reactor.

Read an Excerpt From Kate Pearsall’s Lies on the Serpent’s Tongue

Excerpts Young Adult Read an Excerpt From Kate Pearsall’s Lies on the Serpent’s Tongue A girl who can smell the lies of others uncovers the incendiary mysteries of her small Appalachian town. By Kate Pearsall | Published on December 12, 2024 Comment 0 Share New Share We’re thrilled to share an excerpt from brand new YA fantasy novel Lies on the Serpent’s Tongue by Kate Pearsall, a companion to Bittersweet in the Hollow—out from G.P. Putnam’s Sons Books for Young Readers on January 7. Everybody lies. And in knowing their lies, I become the keeper of their secrets. As Caball Hollow slowly recovers from a tumultuous summer, the James family must also come to terms with their own newly revealed secrets.18-year-old Rowan James has spent her whole life harboring unpleasant truths—that’s what happens when you can smell lies on the teller’s breath—and building walls around herself to block them out. Like her younger sister, Linden, who can taste the feelings of others, Rowan has long struggled with her gift, which has taught her that everyone distorts the truth, and no one is who they seem to be. So when her old rival Hadrian Fitch shows up on her front porch—bloodied and bruised and asking for the kind of help only she can provide—her first instinct is distrust.Except Hadrian’s attack isn’t the only strange occurrence. Now small items are disappearing, but rather than report the losses the owners act as if their missing things never existed. Rumors of a new monster prowling the Hollow begin to swirl. But how can Rowan smoke out the culprit in a town full of secrets? And worse, how can Rowan trust beautiful, solemn Hadrian when every other word he speaks has the distinct burnt smell of a lie? “What do you see in the tea leaves, Linden?” I ask. Maybe if I know what monsters haunt her dreams, I can help to slay them. But there are so many possibilities, from moths’ wings to river rapids, and I’m not sure where to begin. Linden clears her throat before she blinks and looks down into the dregs of her cup. “It’s a person,” she says at last, her eyes wide and shining in the low light when she meets mine. “Falling, and falling, and falling.” I watch her face as she seems to get lost in her thoughts for a moment, then gives herself a little shake, smiling gently when she realizes I’m staring. “I’ll be all right,” she insists. I brace for the foul scent of a lie, but it doesn’t come. And in the back of my mind, I’m still not sure if that means she’s telling the truth or my ability is failing me again. “Let’s try to get some sleep.” She nods toward the stairs. “We’ve only got a few more hours until morning chores. * * * I’m up before the sun, pulling my thick barn jacket tighter against the biting whisper of cold that tries to slide down the collar like a snake in a mouse burrow, seeking hidden warmth to steal away. There’s a promise of winter already in the air this early in the day, a crisp freshness beneath the acridity of burning leaves wafting from the next holler over. I shut the kitchen door behind me, then tuck my hands up into my sleeves and away from the nibbling chill as I make my way to the coop to let out the chickens, too stubborn to break out my gloves in September no matter how cold it is. Morning chores are among the worst on the farm and often include getting head-butted by impatient goats looking for breakfast, hunting down the eggs our bantam hens like to hide in the rafters, and shoveling shit out of animal pens. All of which should have been the responsibility of our farmhand, Hadrian Fitch, had he not taken off at the end of August, emptying his room over the carriage house without so much as a word and disappearing just as suddenly as he’d arrived the year before. I warned Gran not to hire him. He showed up in his ripped jeans, untamable dark hair, with tattoos crawling up his neck, and a fiddle case under his arm. Then softened her up with some story about searching for his long-lost brother that wasn’t even a fraction of the whole truth. From first glance, I knew he was trouble. I’m glad to have seen the back of him. Every single word that boy said was untrue. I’d rather clean the barn every day for the rest of my life than catch the lies that fall from his lips like ash. A memory appears unbidden in my mind: Hadrian leaning against the counter just inside the kitchen, wild curls even darker in the shadows. I was at the table, eating a breakfast of streaky bacon and fried eggs, focused on soaking up the runny yolks with a hunk of last night’s cornbread, when he came in. Buy the Book Lies on the Serpent’s Tongue Kate Pearsall Buy Book Lies on the Serpent's Tongue Kate Pearsall Buy this book from: AmazonBarnes and NobleiBooksIndieBoundTarget “You hungry, son?” Gran asked from the stove, where she was frying up more eggs in bacon grease, scooping a little over the top until they were perfectly cooked. “These are almost ready. Grab a seat.” “I’ve got to see to the sheep first, ma’am,” Hadrian said. “But if it’s not too much of an inconvenience, I need to take the truck out to the feed store in Rawbone. We’re running low on hay pellets and wood shavings.” The sharp scent of a struck match, sulfur and burning wood, hit me, and my head jerked up. But he wasn’t looking at Gran. His eyes were locked on me like a challenge. “Well, that’s just fine,” Gran answered, turning her full attention back to the stove. “You know where to find the keys.” I caught the tiny smirk before he grabbed the truck key from the hook by the door and headed back outside. I dropped my fork and pressed my hands against the table, the stench of the lie roiling my stomach and forcing me to my feet to follow after him. He was nearly to the gate of the sheep pen when I stepped out onto the porch. The flower boxes were right there, and I didn’t even think before plunging in my hand and taking aim at the back of his head. The first dirt clod missed, sailing wide and nearly hitting Linden as she wheeled the old red bike out of the barn, but it got his attention. He spun around to face me. “If you can’t be bothered to tell the truth, at least keep your stinking lies from spoiling my breakfast,” I yelled. More than anything, I wanted to sink my fingers back into the mud and knock the smug look off his face. Hadrian lifted a single dark brow, a gleam in his mossy green eyes. “What are you on about now?” He feigned confusion. “You told Gran you needed the truck today to go to the feed store.” I ground the words between my teeth, giving up any attempt at resistance and chucking another handful of soil at his head. This one only missed by inches, raining dirt into his hair. I stalked down the steps toward him. “But you and I both know that’s not true. So where are you really going?” “Rowan, stop.” Linden dropped the bike and grabbed my arm. “You know what Gran said,” she whispered, reminding me of the edict to stop accusing Hadrian of lying or suffer the consequences. Gran had long grown tired of our feud and told me in no uncertain terms that if I had time to distract him from his work, then I had time to take on more work of my own. And they were always the worst jobs, too, like cleaning out the chicken coop or the grease trap at the diner. My blood still boils at the way Hadrian winked at me over Linden’s shoulder. Then I shove the memory away, forcing my attention back to the here and now. The sky is just beginning to lighten, the outline of the rolling mountains surrounding Bittersweet Farm sharpening into focus, as I walk the fence line, checking for damage. A weak fence is an open invitation to predators, but ours is woven through with the protective bittersweet vines that give the farm its name. Some claim it rose from the earth of its own accord. Though the first known James ancestor, Caorunn, was said to have a special talent for coaxing just about anything to grow. I spot a frill of orange on the trunk of an old oak near the edge of the pasture and venture closer to investigate. It’s a cluster of chicken of the woods mushrooms, Laetiporus sulphureus, still fresh. Tender and bright. I flip open the small blade of the foraging knife I keep in my pocket and cut away several of the ruffled shelves it formed. It typically grows on dead or dying oaks, though not always, so I make a note to keep an eye on this one, before it can cause any trouble with the fence. When I make my way back to the house, I pull off my muck boots on the porch and open the back door. The air smells like Gran’s famous cathead biscuits, and the heat of the oven has chased the early autumn bite from the air. Mama and Gran sit at the table, a pot of coffee between them. “You out there doin’ all the chores alone again?” Gran asks as she blows over the top of her mug. “Your sisters are meant to help.” “School starts early enough, let them sleep in a bit,” I say, dropping my bounty of mushrooms on the counter as I make my way to the sink to wash up. I’m the only one who doesn’t have to worry about getting to class on time anymore or staying up late to do homework. Mama glances up at me as she surreptitiously rubs her thumb across something shiny, then tucks it back into her pocket. The shadows under her eyes look darker in the glare of the overhead light. Linden isn’t the only one who isn’t sleeping. I pretend not to see the small circle of the pendant, like I always do. She stopped wearing it after she and Daddy split, but she still carries it with her, reaching for it like a talisman when she thinks no one is watching. I’m not sure if it’s love or regret that haunts her. The story goes that Daddy gave Mama the necklace on their first date. By then, he’d already eaten lunch at the Harvest Moon every single day for a month, trying to work up the courage to ask her out. Until one day, when Mama asked him if he was ever going to. He told her he’d found the necklace at a thrift store for a couple bucks and the swan engraved on the front made him think of her. In truth, he’d been saving a sizeable chunk of his meager pay since the day he met her to buy it from an antiques jeweler up in Charleston. It took a few months for her to realize the pendant was a locket with a hidden catch. When she finally opened it, a piece of paper with the words I’m already in love with you scrawled across tumbled out, and by that point, she felt the same way. They’d been together ever since, until last year, when Mama traded their love to save Linden’s life. I grab a golden biscuit from the pan and try to pull it apart without burning myself or getting scalded on the steam that escapes. After dropping both halves into a bowl, I smother their soft middles with a scoop of thick, peppery sausage gravy from the cast iron skillet on the stove. “You should eat something, too, Odette,” Gran murmurs across the table. “I will,” Mama promises. It’s not really a lie, but it’s clear she doesn’t mean anytime soon. Gran and I exchange a look over her head. The loss of appetite, I suspect, is the guilt eating away at her. She hasn’t said as much, but I know she blames herself for keeping the secrets that put Linden in danger when all she’d wanted to do was to protect her. “I don’t have to tell you”—Gran starts, settling back into the old wooden chair with both hands wrapped around her mug—“how I blamed myself when my sister took off. Zephyrine was so young when your granny Sudie passed, I think I took to mothering her whether she wanted it or not. I knew something was wrong toward the end. She looked plumb exhausted, and she was barely eating, but she’d already stopped talking to me on account of all my meddling. After she left, I let my own guilt stop me from going after her. When I think of all the time I wasted when I could have been looking for her.” Gran pauses, shaking her head. Decades ago, she and her sister had a falling-out, ostensibly because Gran didn’t approve of the man Zephyrine was dating, but the real issue went deeper than that, to differences in how they thought we should use our gifts and our knowledge. Zephyrine trusted the man who she thought loved her with her secrets, and he used them against her. He used her to save himself, like a sacrifice to an old god he didn’t understand, though maybe a deal with the devil would be more apropos. “I might have found out a lot sooner that she didn’t leave of her own accord. Sitting around stewing in your own juices don’t do no good for nobody. You need to decide what you’re gonna do about it.” Gran pushes out of her chair and makes her way around the table. “I know what that kind of guilt feels like, but I’m not just going to sit by this time. Accept it or change it. Those are the only choices. Now that I know where she is, I’m going to do everything in my power to get her back.” She pats Mama’s shoulder as she moves toward the stove. “So, if biscuits and gravy aren’t to your liking, let me fix you up something else.” I slide into Gran’s empty chair, and Mama meets my gaze across the table. “You look so much like your father.” Her smile is a heavy thing, weighted with equal parts joy and sadness. Her words aren’t strictly true, either. My ink-dark hair and bright blue eyes are James family traits, but she searches out the pieces of him in each of us. His freckles on Sorrel’s skin, the exact shape of Linden’s smile, the curve of Juniper’s jaw, the set of my eyes. They can never quite add up to the whole, no matter how hard she looks. “Did I ever tell you that I used to sit with him whenever I had a free minute during my shift? And sometimes when I didn’t,” she admits, lifting her eyebrows. “He listened like every word I spoke was a revelation. We created a whole world, he and I, one that existed only for the two of us. I would never take back the deal I made to save your sister, but I know why the Moth-Winged Man accepted the trade. A life for a life. I killed something that day. Something I can never get back.” I stare into the deep blue of her eyes and realize it’s not the regret or the guilt that keeps her up at night. It’s grief. “Your gran has hope now of finding Zephyrine. But I have to abide by my bargain. We don’t always get to keep what’s most precious. Sometimes we have to let it go.” Mama squeezes my hand, then leaves the kitchen while Gran is busy at the stove. Zephyrine loved the wrong man, and it cost her dearly. Mama loved the right man and still lost. Their stories might be vastly different, but the end result was still the same. We don’t talk about our abilities. As many folks make their way down the garden path to the summer kitchen late at night, careful not to wake wagging tongues as they seek out cures for what ails them, none of them really want to know the truth. It’s one thing to believe there might be more to the world than what’s known, yet quite another to have it confirmed. People turn dangerous when confronted with something that challenges their worldview. Scorch marks mar the old log cabin wall from where long ago some disgruntled customer decided the best way to deal with a witch was the old-fashioned one. There’s a reason we don’t trust easy. It’s a lesson we’ve learned well enough over the generations. Excerpted from Lies on the Serpent’s Tongue, copyright © 2024 by Kate Pearsall. ‘What Type of County?’ The View Is Ignorant of U.S. Gun-Making Tradition

In the wake of the arrest of the left-wing assassin who killed UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, it was reportedly discovered that he used a 3D-printed, so-called “ghost gun.” Never letting a good crisis go to waste, on Tuesday, The View wanted to exploit the situation to push for gun control. ABC News co-hosts Joy Behar and Sunny Hostin demanded a crackdown on homemade firearms and betrayed their ignorance of it being an American tradition dating back centuries and to before the founding. Behar was manic because the U.S. Supreme Court was set to hear a case regarding the Biden administration’s actions against unfinished 80-percent lower receivers. “Another point, these ghost guns are up for discussion at the Supreme Court right now so let us hope that they do the right thing, because, let me see, they do not have serial numbers,” she huffed, as if serial numbers allowed authorities to magically pin point where a gun was on the globe. Flaunting her ignorance of the work involved and equipment required to finish an 80-percent lower, Behar decried how “they are sold online as do-it-yourself kits.” She falsely claimed a guy can make one of these guns “the same way that he can text me.” She went onto to say she hoped Chief Justice Roberts and Justice Amy Coney Barrett would join the liberal justices “to save this country.” Despite being a former federal prosecutor, Hostin proved that she didn’t know anything about the case before the Supreme Court by conflating 80-percent unfinished lowers, which are made of metal and need to milled out with power tools, with 3D-printed models: “So, we're not sure why this happened, but we do know the instrumentality that was used, and it was a ghost gun that can be printed on your computer.”     Obviously clueless as to the fact that those unfinished lowers were incapable of accepting ammunition let alone fire (that’s the upper receiver’s job), Hostin whined that “lobbyists lobbying” were pointing out “this is not a firearm.” “It obviously is a firearm because a man was killed using one of them. And it is going to be in front of the Supreme Court,” she declared with zero knowledge. “And the Supreme Court is looking at whether or not it is considered a firearm. Of course, it is.” But as The Reload’s Jake Foleman points out in his October 8 headline on the case, the “Supreme Court Weighs When Parts Become a Firearm.” Justices Samuel Alito and Barrett boiled down the case with an analogy asking when do ingredients become a completed meal: “Here’s a blank pad, and here’s a pen, alright? Is this a grocery list?” Justice Samuel Alito asked Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar. “I put out on a counter some eggs, some chopped-up ham, some chopped-up pepper, and onions. Is that a western omelet?” “Would your answer change if you ordered it from HelloFresh and you got a kit, and it was like turkey chili, but all of the ingredients are in the kit?” Justice Barrett said, following on Alito’s analogy. “The justices spent nearly 90 minutes going back and forth with attorneys on both sides of the dispute, probing where to draw the line between a collection of unfinished gun parts and a completed gun under the statute,” Fogleman reported. Of course, Hostin completely ignored that it was completely legal in America to make your own firearm and that it was a tradition dating back centuries. But that didn’t stop her from using to besmirch America, one of her favorite hate objects: When you have something that someone can make in their home and you have the lobbyists saying, but, no, and the gun manufacturers saying these are just hobby guns and so, you know, they shouldn't be regulated says a lot about our country. Just before they whined out at home-made firearms, Behar also lashed out at Republican Senator Ted Cruz (TX) for condemning left-wing violence like the assassination of Thompson. “Of course, Ted Cruz has to politicize it and say it's a left-wing thing,” she shrieked. “And why does Ted Cruz insist on dividing Americans even further?” Behar has previously used her platform on the show to erroneously claim gun owners have a “mental illness” and that Republicans make “a lot of money off children’s deaths.” Who’s the real divider of America, Joy? The transcript is below. Click "expand" to read: ABC’s The View December 10, 2024 11:04:30 a.m. Eastern (…) JOY BEHAR: Of course, Ted Cruz has to politicize it and say it's a left-wing thing. I mean, I think it was the second attempted assassination on Trump was a kid who was a registered Republican--- ALYSSA FARAH GRIFFIN: The first. BEHAR: -- who also voted for Biden and had a lot of left-wing stuff on his social media, but I don't think that this is -- as you say, it's not a political issue. WHOOPI GOLDBERG: No. BEHAR: And why does Ted Cruz insist on dividing Americans even further? Is my question to him. Another point, these ghost guns are up for discussion at the Supreme Court right now so let us hope that they do the right thing, because, let me see, they do not have serial numbers. GOLDBERG: No, they're ghost guns. They – yeah. BEHAR: Yes. They are sold online as do-it-yourself kits. What type of country are we living in that some nutcase can get a gun that has no serial number that he can make the same way that he can text me? Come on. SARA HAINES: Yeah, well, I think – [Applause] BEHAR: Wait. The Supreme Court is about to do it, to rule on this, because Biden has a whole thing going on to control this. SUNNY HOSTIN: I'd like to follow up with you on that. [Cross talk] BEHAR: But I'm hoping that Roberts and Barrett will go with the other Supreme Court justices Ketanji Jackson and Elena – HOSTIN: Kagan. BEHAR: -- Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor. That they will all vote against this type of thing to save this country, come on. HOSTIN: I was going to bring up the ghost guns, because, you know, I think it's all speculation now as to why someone so young, so promising would do something like this. There's some indication that he was also suffering from chronic back pain. HAINES: Like severe. HOSTIN: Severe chronic back pain. BEHAR: Oh, who hasn't? Everyone has back pain. [Laughter] HOSTIN: So, we're not sure why this happened. But we do know the instrumentality that was used, and it was a ghost gun that can be printed on your computer. And I think what is so frustrating to me is that, you know, you have all these lobbyists lobbying and saying this is not a firearm. It obviously is a firearm because a man was killed using one of them. And it is going to be in front of the Supreme Court. But in recent years, their use, these ghost guns proliferated. I would say there – they are linked to nearly 700 homicides since -- between 2016 and 2021. I mean, that is crazy. That's a tenfold increase. And the Supreme Court is looking at whether or not it is considered a firearm. Of course, it is. And so I agree with you. I think, you know, when you have -- when you have something that someone can make in their home and you have the lobbyists saying, but, no, and the gun manufacturers saying these are just hobby guns and so, you know, they shouldn't be regulated says a lot about our country. Daily Shows Mocks Hegseth's Pledge Not To Drink, GOP For Believing Him

Comedy Central’s Michael Kosta used The Daily Show’s penultimate episode of 2024 to mock Secretary of Defense-designate Pete Hegseth’s pledge not to drink if confirmed and ridiculed any Senate Republican who believes him. Kosta introduced a pair of video clips by declaring, “But even if he's confirmed, Pete seems to understand that being blackout drunk 23 hours a day might be a problem, which is why he's offering to change.” In the first clip, CNN’s Manu Raju reported that “He's been telling members of the Senate Republican Conference that if he were confirmed as Secretary of Defense, he would not drink alcohol at all. He would abstain from drinking.”     That was followed by Hegseth himself telling Megyn Kelly, “This is the biggest deployment of my life, and there won't be a drop of alcohol on my lips while I am doing it.” Kosta found the whole thing deeply amusing, sarcastically claiming, “That's good enough for me,” before adding, “When has an alcoholic ever promised to do better and not followed through? What a deal. ‘Just put me in charge of the largest military in history, and I'll stop drinking.’” While Hegseth has hailed the fact that he is a “different man” today than he was in previous years, he has also claimed that he never had the serious addiction problem Kosta is alleging. His pledge is both a recognition that people need to trust him when he says he has put his past behind him and a recognition of the need to be both literally and mentally sober for the critical job of Defense Secretary. Kosta would go on to say that even if he didn't have an infamous past, Hegseth would still be unqualified and inexperienced, but he didn't have to mock Hegseth's recovery to make that argument. Here is a transcript for the December 11 show: Comedy Central The Daily Show 12/11/2024 11:08 PM ET MICHAEL KOSTA: But even if he's confirmed, Pete seems to understand that being blackout drunk 23 hours a day might be a problem, which is why he's offering to change. Protest ignites in NYC over Mayor Adams' deportation talks with Homan

A protest erupted in New York City on Thursday concerning Mayor Eric Adams' (D) scheduled meeting with President-elect Donald Trump's incoming border czar, Tom Homan.Last week, Adams announced his intention to meet with Homan to discuss the Trump administration's plans for mass deportations, an initiative that many Democratic leaders have vowed to thwart. 'Our message is New York City is a sanctuary city.'Adams has come under fire for waffling about his position on the city's sanctuary policies. Over the past year, the mayor has advocated for reducing those policies to facilitate the removal of criminal illegal aliens from the city. While Adams does not support Trump's mass deportation promises, he is hopeful that he can work with the incoming administration to deport criminals and make New York City safer for residents. His break from the party line has drawn scrutiny from fellow Democrats. Regardless, Adams appears to remain steadfast in his commitment to cooperate with federal immigration officials to remove criminals. He has repeatedly challenged the left to "cancel" him for his position.Ahead of Adams' afternoon meeting with Homan, immigrants gathered outside City Hall to protest, according to a video captured by FreedomNews.tv.One protester held up a sign in Spanish that read, "NYC says 'no' to Tom Homan."Another sign stated, "Mayor Adams, reject Homan. Keep NYC families together!"A third read, "Say 'NO' to Homan: Family Separation Czar!"Yatziri Tovar, a protester, told the news outlet, "We are here to denounce the meeting that's happening between Tom Homan and Mayor Adams. We are here to call on Mayor Adams instead to focus on leading our city and protecting immigrant New Yorkers from the upcoming Trump administration.""First of all, we would like for him [Adams] to stop cozying up to the Trump administration," she said.Tovar stated that Adams should "focus on reassuring" immigrants in New York City that Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers will not be allowed in the city. She further urged Adams not only to uphold the city's current sanctuary policies but also to expand protections for illegal aliens.Nesar Bhuyan, another demonstrator, told WCBS-TV, "Our message is New York City is a sanctuary city. So, we are here to protect the immigrant community."Former New York state Representative Michael Blake (D) participated in Thursday's protest. He is among the multiple contenders who have declared their intention to challenge Adams in the upcoming mayoral election.A video shared on social media showed Blake addressing the protesters."When I am your next mayor, let me be very clear, that everyone has a seat at the table," he stated. "We love you. We protect you. We have your back. We're not gonna walk away from our immigrant families. That is wrong."Adams' meeting with Homan is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. local time, and he plans to address the press around 3:00 p.m.Like Blaze News? 'ILLEGAL': Dem fundraising platform ActBlue makes stunning admission about what it did before policy change

The GOP-led Committee on House Administration has spent over a year investigating whether the major Democratic fundraising platform ActBlue has complied with federal campaign finance laws and prevented illegal contributions. Committee Chairman Bryan Steil (R-Wis.) issued a subpoena to ActBlue on Oct. 30 for documents related to its donor verification policies and to the potential for foreign actors — particularly from China, Iran, Russia, and Venezuela — to use the platform to launder illicit money into American political campaigns. Steil announced Tuesday that ActBlue admitted in documents under subpoena that it did not automatically reject donations made with foreign gift cards prior to a policy change in September. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) responded to the revelation, stating, "This is ILLEGAL." Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) tweeted, "Federal campaign-finance laws apparently apply only to Republicans and exist to help Democrats." Rep. Marc Molinaro (R-N.Y.) wrote, "Into the 3rd quarter of campaign fundraising Democrats were accepting foreign gift card donations through their Act Blue platform. As Congressional candidates were reporting millions of dollars in donations, they didn't require the CVV code verification and allowed foreign gift card donations! This is illegal and outrageous." Joe Lonsdale, the American entrepreneur who co-founded Palantir Technologies, noted, "Those accusing the other side of collaborating with foreign powers to meddle in our elections were projecting." The platform has since updated its donor verification policies to "automatically reject donations that use foreign prepaid/gift cards, domestic gift cards, are from high-risk/sanctioned countries, and have the highest level of risk as determined" by its anti-fraud solution provider, Sift. 'We must keep working to ensure that no foreign funds were illegally funneled into US political campaigns during this election cycle.' Just the News reported that the policy change took place three days after Steil introduced the Secure Handling of Internet Electronic Donations Act on Sept. 6. The bill would require political committees to collect the credit or debit card's verification value when accepting corresponding contributions over the internet. ActBlue indicated in a Nov. 27, 2023, letter to Steil that the platform required and used card verification values on "many" but not all transactions across the site. Furthermore, the so-called SHIELD Act would require that the card's billing address be located in the United States unless the contributor is an American national living abroad or lawfully admitted for permanent residence. In such cases, the contributor must provide the political committee with his registration address or identification document. The bill would also prohibit political committees from accepting contributions made via general-use prepaid cards, gift certificates, or store gift cards. Steil noted in a statement that while ActBlue's policy change "is a positive step forward, there is still more work to be done to ensure our campaign finance system is fully protected from fraud and unlawful foreign interference." "The documents provided to the Committee also confirm that ActBlue still accepted these concerning payment methods in July, a period when Democrats raised a record number of campaign money [sic] before implementing these safeguards," continued the Wisconsin congressman. "We must keep working to ensure that no foreign funds were illegally funneled into U.S. political campaigns during this election cycle. It is also critical that we enact lasting reforms to prevent illicit contributions in future election cycles." Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, penned a letter with Steil Monday to the CEO of Sift, Kris Nagel, requesting documents pertaining to the company's efforts to deter fraudulent transactions on ActBlue and related communications. The Republican lawmakers noted that a recent data analysis of Federal Election Commission records "uncovered suspicious transactions made using ActBlue, including donations larger than the named donor could afford, 'uncharacteristic donations from registered voters suddenly contributing to candidates of the opposing party,' and 'unusually frequent' donations from vulnerable individuals, including senior citizens and first-time donors." Jordan and Steil appear keen to know more about the security measures provided to ActBlue by Sift, given that the measures may have been exploited by bad actors at home and abroad. The House Administration Committee is likely to explore these and other concerns about the platform at its Dec. 18 hearing on foreign interference in American elections. ActBlue told its users in an Oct. 30 statement that it "holds itself to the highest legal and ethical standards, and all contributions made through ActBlue are disclosed in full compliance with federal, state, and local laws."
