Woman Shares Sweet Story Of How She Befriended A Lonely 89-Year-Old

At 19-years-old, Aoife Isabella Malone moved to a small town in Scotland. Here, she planned to study fashion. She no doubt hoped this move would be life-changing — but she never thought it would lead to a friendship quite like this one. While working at Ladbrokes, a popular spot in the UK to place bets on sports, Aoife met a man named Tommy. This man visited Ladbrokes frequently, and it was clear to Aoife that he was lonely. His wife died the year before. Thanks to his frequent visits, the two of them got to talking. It only took a few days for Aoife to realize what a sweetheart her new elderly friend was, inspiring her to ask if she could join him for bingo night. TikTok Understandably, Aoife’s friends were a bit concerned. The 19-year-old was planning to go out at night with a man she didn’t know well, after all. So, three of her friends joined them for bingo, and the night was amazing! From here, the two of them only grew closer, with Aoife visiting his home a few times a week. TikTok It’s amazing how quickly these two became besties. Tommy would sometimes cook food for Aoife and she’d take him out to the shops. They also loved going to the movies, or to “the pictures,” as Tommy would call them. Aoife even got to include Tommy as a model in one of her college projects — and he killed it, as you can see below! Teen Unexpectedly Makes an Elderly Friend, Changing Her Life Forever TikTok Over the years, their friendship only grew deeper. Tommy helped teach Aoife to drive. She introduced Tommy to more of her friends. And when she moved to Edinburg, giving her quite a commute, Tommy would meet Aoife and her friends at the station to drive them to school. “We’d take him out for dinner, watch the six nations at his house and even had a surprise birthday party for him one year,” Aoife shares. TikTok The two of them stayed close even when Aoife moved to NYC for a job. She was there when the COVID pandemic started, but she still found ways to ensure her elderly friend didn’t get too lonely. This helped both Tommy and Aoife during this isolating time. So much has changed since Tommy and Aoife first met — but their friendship continues to grow. In fact, they recently celebrated nine years of friendship. TikTok Woman’s Friendship With Elderly Man Stays Strong After Nearly a Decade Tommy is in a care home how, but at 98 years old, he’s as sharp as ever. Plus, they still visit one another every six weeks or so. Truly, their friendship is like one straight from “the pictures!” TikTok “You probably gave him more years to his life, gave him something to look forward to and helped through loneliness, you’re an angel,” someone points out in the comments of Aoife’s post, with another adding, “This is the loveliest thing I’ve ever seen in my life. You are wonderful.” You can find the source of this story’s featured image here! The post Woman Shares Sweet Story Of How She Befriended A Lonely 89-Year-Old appeared first on InspireMore.

Parade Of Bernese Mountain Dogs Pull Traditional Swiss Carts In Whimsical Gathering

What could be better than watching a parade of fluffy Bernese mountain dogs go by? One dog mom was lucky enough to witness this special event with her pups, and she shared the sweetest footage of it on social media! During the Bernese Garden Party, tons of these magnificent canines were led in a single-file procession by humans dressed in traditional Swiss garb. These pooches looked so happy as they pranced along, tails wagging! Watch the video here. @bramblethebernese So lovely to see at the Bernese Garden Party #bernesemountaindog #bernesemountaindogpuppy #swissdogs #carting #dogswithjobs #fyp #brambleandivy_bmd ♬ Berggeist-Schottisch – Ländlerkapelle Martin Beeler As the parade went by, each Bernese mountain dog proudly pulled a cart behind them. These vehicles were individually decorated with beautiful floral arrangements, most of them bearing the Swiss flag. Among these majestic pooches trotted a tiny puppy on a leash. Although this dog was too small to pull a cart, they still looked very excited to be included in the celebration! This adorable video has received over a million views on social media. Commenters thought it was too cute to see these Bernese mountain dogs pulling their beautiful carts with so much enthusiasm! “I love how proud they all are for doing such a good job,” wrote one user. Another joked, “Am do job. Am pull cart. Am good boy.” Bernese mountain dogs are literally born workers. Screengrab from TikTok According to Dogster, Bernese mountain dogs actually have a long history of doing this exact type of work on Swiss farms. Originally, these pooches were bred to be herding dogs. As the 20th century rolled in, though, agricultural practices changed. People were keeping livestock on their property rather than herding them in from the mountains. So, they trained their trusty pooches to pull carts instead! Although the modern farmer no longer requires the assistance of Bernese mountain dogs to transport their goods, these pups still love a good haul. So, some owners train these canines to pull carts in sporting events. The dogs involved in the Bernese Garden Party certainly looked happy to be participating in this activity! NASA have discovered an invisible electric field surrounding the Earth

For centuries, scientists have been trying to understand the forces that shape our planet. While Earth’s gravitational pull and magnetic field should be familiar enough, scientists say they have discovered a third field that is “equally fundamental.” Moreover, the researchers say the discovery could explain why life originated on Earth and not elsewhere. NASA researchers have found the first evidence of a thin, almost imperceptible electric field surrounding the planet. This “ambipolar electric field” may be responsible for the mysterious winds of supersonic particles that constantly blast out from the Earth’s poles. Already in the 1960s, spacecraft encountered a mysterious phenomenon: supersonic streams of charged particles escaping from the atmosphere above the poles. Science could not explain their origin. Now NASA researchers have provided evidence of an “ambipolar electric field” — an invisible force that may be driving these mysterious winds. Like a huge invisible shield, this field holds the atmosphere together and influences its formation. But until recently, the technology to measure this field simply didn’t exist. Starting in 2016, researchers began developing a rocket that could measure what they believed to be tiny voltage differences over hundreds of miles. They sent the Endurance rocket over the North Pole. It was a risky mission, because the rocket had to hit the exact spot where the Earth’s magnetic field lines were “open” and allowed the invisible field to be “seen.” “Endurance” did its job – it measured the invisible shield. The force measured by scientists was negligible – only 0.55 volts. But over a huge area, this field is capable of exerting a powerful effect. Since this field was discovered only recently, researchers are not yet sure what impact it may have had on the development of the Earth. But there are suggestions that this field is one of the reasons why there is still water on Earth, while planets like Venus and Mars have dried up. The discovery of the ambipolar field is not only a breakthrough in our understanding of our planet, but also the key to deciphering the mystery of life on other planets. We can now study the invisible forces that shape the universe and get closer to answering the question: are we alone? Brace for Impact: Massive Solar Flare to Hit Earth

Brace for Impact: Massive Solar Flare to Hit Earth

A massive solar flare is set to impact Earth later this week following a powerful eruption on the Sun on Tuesday evening, October 3rd. This isn’t the first time in 2024 we’ve faced solar flare activity. Back in May, a solar storm hit after a series of coronal mass ejections (CMEs) resulted from two large sunspots merging. That event lit up the skies with the Northern Lights. Now, we’re preparing for the impact of another solar storm. NASA reports that Sunspot AR3842, a rapidly growing region with intense magnetic fields, has unleashed the second-strongest flare we’ve seen in the last five years. Solar flares are categorized by intensity, with the strongest labeled as X-class. These flares have the potential to cause significant disruptions, including radio blackouts, satellite damage, and even power grid failures. Tuesday’s flare was rated X7.1, only slightly less intense than the X8.9 flare from May. The flare has already caused a brief radio blackout over Hawaii and launched a CME into space. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicts this CME will collide with Earth’s magnetic field by Saturday, October 5th. When CMEs hit Earth, they can trigger geomagnetic storms, which not only create stunning auroras like the Northern Lights but can also disrupt satellite communications and potentially cause power grid failures. This latest event is a reminder that the Sun is currently in its “solar maximum” phase, the most active part of its 11-year cycle. Scientists originally predicted this peak of solar activity to occur in July 2025, but solar flares have been increasing at an accelerated rate, leading experts to reconsider their timeline. In 2024 alone, we’ve already experienced 41 X-class solar flares—more than the total number seen in the past nine years combined, according to spaceweather.com. Typically, we only see about 10 X-class flares a year. With solar maximum expected to last at least another year, we’re likely to see more intense solar activity, bringing with it the risk of additional geomagnetic storms and the associated disruptions. So, brace yourselves for what could be a wild ride over the coming days as space weather once again shows its power.
