A FAST CASSEROLE RECIPE
This Sloppy Joe Casserole is an easy, family favorite dinner. The flavors of Manwich and cheesy pasta is a great twist over your typical sloppy joes on a bun. It is a great dish to make when you have a busy weekday night and need dinner on the table quickly without a lot of fuss! This is pure, filling comfort food!
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Can I use a different type of pasta? Yes, any different shaped pasta can be used. Just make sure it’s the same quantity. If you’re serving this to kids, they seem to really enjoy macaroni or pasta shells. Can I change up the cheese? Sure! I had cheddar and Colby Jack on hand and knew they would go well. You can use whatever cheese you prefer or have on hand. Additionally, you could use all cheddar, or all Colby Jack cheese. Can I make this in the CrockPot? I mean, I guess you could, but that seems like a lot of extra work. You’d have to basically cook everything first BEFORE putting it in the slow cooker (including the macaroni). This is one of those recipes that is truly easier to make in the oven. But, if it’s something you really want to do, you’ll cook the ground beef with the onion and seasoning on the stovetop first, drain the grease off. Then add the Manwich sauce, cook and stir for a few minutes. Transfer the beef and sauce to the slow cooker and add in the cooked pasta then stir. Cook for an 1 1/2 hours or so and then put the cheese on the casserole and cook another 30 minutes or until the cheese is melted. How to store leftovers? You can keep the leftovers in the fridge for up to 5 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
INGREDIENTS NEEDED: (SEE RECIPE CARD BELOW FOR THE FULL RECIPE)
elbow macaroni – check out the FAQ section and you’ll see other pasta shapes can be used.
ground beef – Ground turkey or ground chicken can be used.
yellow onion – if you don’t like onion, just leave it out.
onion powder
garlic powder
Manwich sloppy joe sauce – if you don’t like the canned stuff, you can make your own homemade sloppy joe sauce. I have a recipe for it with my Crock Pot Sloppy Joes.
shredded cheddar cheese and shredded Colby jack cheese – my preferred cheese combo but you can use your favorite.
HOW TO MAKE SLOPPY JOE CASSEROLE
Cook elbow macaroni according to package directions until (al dente). Preheat the oven to 350° F. Spray a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray. In a skillet add the ground beef, onion, onion powder, and garlic powder over medium heat. Brown and crumble until the beef is no longer pink and cooked through. Drain any excess grease (if you use lean beef, there probably won’t be any.)
Add the Manwich sloppy joe sauce. Stir for 2-3 minutes. Pour the sloppy joe mixture into the bottom of the baking dish. Add the cooked pasta and cheddar cheese.
Mix until combined. Top with the shredded colby jack cheese.
Bake for about 20-25 minutes or until the cheese is bubbling and the casserole is hot throughout. Optional: top with chopped parsley. Serve and enjoy.
