Group Of House Republicans Sign ‘Unity Commitment’ Pledge To Certify 2024 Election Results

A group of Republican lawmakers have signed onto a pledge to accept and certify the 2024 election results. The effort, led by Reps. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) and Don Bacon (R-NE), is called the “Unity Commitment.” More like the ‘Uniparty’ Commitment. Six House Republicans have signed onto the pledge. House Republicans in Biden-won districts vow to certify 2024 election results “Unity Commitment” pledge led by Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) and Don Bacon (R-NE) has been signed by at least six House Republicans#TheUnipartyIsBorn https://t.co/BDbqtmM3Ab — Kim “filterless” Wexler MA JD (@KimWexlerMAJD) September 14, 2024 From the Washington Examiner: All six of the Republicans, including co-sponsor Bacon, are running in competitive House districts that Biden won in 2020. The other Republican signers are Reps. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), Mike Lawler (R-NY), Lori Chavez-DeRemer (R-OR), Nick LaLota (R-NY), and Anthony D’Esposito (R-NY). None of those lawmakers were among the 139 House Republicans who voted against certifying Biden’s victory in 2020. All but Bacon and Fitzpatrick were not yet sworn into office. The pledge comes as Trump has repeatedly said the 2020 election was stolen from him, amplifying that claim during his debate against Vice President Kamala Harris earlier this week. Trump has also begun to accuse Democrats of “importing voters” from foreign countries to vote in U.S. elections, which he has warned may alter the election results in November. The "Unity Commitment," led by Gottheimer and Bacon said the 32 signed members commit to accepting the presidential election results once the Nov. 5 election is over "and all legal means to challenge election results in the courts have been exhausted." https://t.co/brh0eyfrwM — The Washington Times (@WashTimes) September 14, 2024 The Hill reports: In a statement, Gottheimer said the pledge is “a framework for Members to work together and communicate their respect for the electoral process, regardless of who wins.” “Members of Congress on both sides of the aisle have a responsibility to demonstrate true leadership ahead of this critical election and serve as a voice for calm,” Gottheimer said. "Absolutely I will sign onto that," @Rep_Stansbury said Friday when asked if she would add her name to the Unity Commitment circulating around Capitol Hill. Acknowledging the election winner certified at the joint meeting of Congress in January 2025 as the legitimate President of the United States. 2. Attending the President’s inauguration ceremony in person. 3. Serving as a voice for calm and reconciliation and speaking out against those who endorse or engage in violence that harms people, property, or public spaces. After this election, America will have the rule of the mob unless the commonsense majority stands up. It’s never been more critical for our leaders to embrace the enduring idea that America is and must always be one nation.
