Preparing a Fall Garden
Fall gardening is always like a sigh of relief in the homesteading world. After the blazing heat of summer, crops tend to suffer from less stress in these cooler months. In growing zones 4-8, you can plant well into November and December for certain crops. Weeds are less of an issue in the fall, and the soil is still warm from summer, so you’ll find that seeds germinate quickly! Some of our fall favorites: →Salad greens →Root vegetables (raddish, turnip, carrots, beets) →Brassicas (broccoli, kohlrabi, cabbage, cauliflower) →Beans →Winter gourds All pack a powerful punch of nutrients and work excellently in fall and winter dishes! We always encourage you to invest in physical resources that provide planting dates for your specific region, and state university agriculture offices are usually great tools as well. What are you planting this fall? Tell us in the comments!
