Harris-Walz adds new Doug Emhoff ‘Wife Beater’ merch
The Harris-Walz 2024 campaign has announced the release of a new Doug Emhoff-inspired line of “Wife Beater” tank tops. The campaign, already known for pushing the boundaries of political branding, has somehow managed to raise eyebrows with their latest merch drop.
“Our focus groups told us that what Americans want in 2024 is a strong, relatable Second Gentleman,” said campaign spokesperson Ihayta Casual-Tone, while modeling the tank top herself. “Doug represents the everyday, tough-love attitude. And what better way to capture that than with a classic white tank top—rebranded for our times?”
The tank, officially called the “Doug Emhoff Wife Beater for Justice,” comes emblazoned with slogans like “Second Gentlemen, First in Fashion” and “Breaking Glass Ceilings, One Tank at a Time.” With its casual cut and bold messaging, the campaign hopes to appeal to younger, trend-conscious voters who are definitely not confused by the tone-deaf choice of garment name.
Doug Emhoff himself was reportedly enthusiastic about the merch. “It’s comfortable, breathable, and sends a message—though I’m still figuring out what that message is,” he said while posing in one of the tanks, flexing a surprisingly toned bicep.
Critics were quick to lambast the choice. “So let me get this straight: Kamala is the first female Vice President, and they choose this as their signature merch?” tweeted @WokeUpRealMad. “The word ‘cringe’ doesn’t even begin to cover it.”
Even feminist groups have expressed confusion. “We’re not entirely sure what the Harris-Walz campaign was aiming for here. It’s like they went for ‘edgy’ but took a detour through ‘out-of-touch,’” commented Gloria Headshake, spokeswoman for Women’s Rights Gone Wrong. “I mean, was ‘Strong and Supportive Doug’ not an option?”
Tim Walz, when asked about the new release, tried to distance himself. “Look, I just wanted a nice mug or maybe a ball cap,” he said nervously. “I’m not responsible for the creative decisions. That’s all Doug’s department.”
Meanwhile, rumors have surfaced that the next item in the Harris-Walz merch line could be a matching “Kamala’s Kitchen Oven Mitts,” since apparently, nothing says “progress” like retro household items.
Social media users weren’t sure whether to laugh or cry at the campaign’s marketing strategy. “So let me get this straight… they think this will unite the country?” posted @HellaConfused. “It’s like they’re daring us not to vote for them.”
At press time, sales of the Doug Emhoff ‘Wife Beater’ tank were brisk, but experts are wondering if the campaign is just trolling at this point—or if they’ve accidentally crossed over into a new dimension of ironic political merchandising.
Stay tuned for the next drop, reportedly a line of Walz-branded “Participation Trophies for Progress,” because, apparently, nothing screams “electability” like confusing voters with bizarre swag.
