Today, we’re diving into a BIG reveal that comes in a tiny package. You won't believe what’s inside this box! It’s the key piece I needed to finally complete the handrail for our cozy cabin project. This little box holds the world's largest Forstner bit—a massive 2.5-inch bit that will allow me to create a custom mortise for the rail installation. ? The Cozy Cabin Chronicles: As we continue working on the handrail, I’ll walk you through the challenges of tying everything into the steep 12/12 pitch of the roof. With guidance from Jayon at Meadowlark Log Homes, I've found a simpler solution to a problem that had me stumped for weeks. We’re re-purposing materials, drilling new mortises, and making precise cuts to bring this vision to life. ? Tackling the Final Challenge: With the big Forstner bit in hand, I'll be drilling the final mortise to tie the handrail together. After plenty of trial and error, the handrail is not only secure but looks fantastic. This project has been one of the most complex DIYs yet, and I'm thrilled to see it come together! ? What’s Next? Tomorrow, Mrs. W and I will head to Portland to pick up kitchen cabinets and custom-milled flooring for the cabin. We’ll also visit the mill to see the tongue-and-groove work in action—plus, we’ll get a behind-the-scenes tour of their impressive workshop from a PROhO subscriber named Joe! ?
